Re: MLB '10 The Show Tips and Work Arounds

Okay, this is gonna sound funny......humorous...sarcastic...etc. But, it's been working for me.

If anyone experiences the glitch where the controller just stops working-------after the pitch is called, and you go to start the meter, but nothing happens------this is what I did, and it responded everytime afterwards:

I gently smacked the back of the controller. I know, I know......sounds like a joke, right? Well, each time I did this, I was able to continue the game without having to reboot.

Now, I'm not saying to beat the _____out of the controller, lol. Just a smack or light hit.

    Works everytime for me........

      - No trades allowed until June 1st (as others have mentioned)

      - Leave trades in the global setting set to auto

      - Assign a profile to all 30 teams and set those profiles to manual until June 1st.

      - On June 1st you look at the standings, teams rosters, etc and determine who are likely to be buyers and who will be sellers. You put the buyers profile on auto and leave the sellers profiles on manual.

My thinking here is the buyers will be initiating the trade talks. This should stop a team like Kansas City for example making a move for Albert Pujols. If I have Kansas City on manual and they have a player a buyer wants they can offer me a trade and I'll look it over and see if it's something I want to do. If I don't like the trade offer I can make a counter offer I'm thinking. This should cut into the amount of trades and limit amount of trading activity I would think. The only thing is buyers could trade with other buyers but if I cover my tracks, I can back and fix any of those moves I don't like.

I know this won't be for everyone because a lot of people just want to control one team and that's it but I figured I'd throw this out there and see if anyone else likes the idea and thinks it will work.
So I took your idea here (well, more like tweaks on your idea) and ran through a couple experiments.

First, let me talk about setup. If you assign a profile for each team, it makes life easier if you choose that team as the "favorite" for that profile. Why? Because when you get to the Franchise setup screen to assign a profile for each team, you can just hit "select all" and each team will be associated with the proper profile. In other words, I created a profile for Baltimore called "BAL" and had the Orioles as the favorite team for that profile, NYY and Yankees, BOS and Red Sox, etc. When I got to the assign profile page, I hit start (I think it's start) for "all" and each team has the proper profile. You'll then need to go to each one and flip everything but "Trades" to AUTO (well, obviously that's all user preference but I'm saying for those that one the computer to handle everything while trying to do something about the trades we're seeing) but that's easier than it sounds because you don't have to go below the first 10 or so toggles since you're never playing with these teams anyone (i.e., you don't care if hitting is set on Vet or if the batting view is whatever, etc.)

Alright, first test: 1 team/division, randomly selected, switched to AUTO on 1 MAY, the rest still Manual

May: 4 "Manual Trades", 1 "Auto Trade" (by manual trade I mean that one of the AUTO teams proposed a trade to a MANUAL team ; by AUTO I mean that two AUTOs traded with each other so you only get a notification, you can't nix the trade)

      June: 5 MT, 1 A
      July: 1 MT, 2 A
      August: 14 MT
      September: 10 MT

Assessment: All the proposals were pretty awful save one or two. Obviously, August and September stand out as the AUTO teams were really trying to dump salary. To fix bad AUTO trades, all one has to do before 31 JUL is switch those teams to MANUAL and then trade back the players. After 31 JUL, you'll need to release the players and then have their old team claim them.

Whoops, I need to go. Crying kids. I'll post my other tests later. Sorry.

        No need for all that:

You must check the trade offers for each team under the Pending Transactions.....if you see one that you don't like, or isn't realistic, simply do this.....

Next, go back into pending transactions, and to Trade offers. Find the pending trade you do not like, click on it, and click reject.

Boom, the trade is off the books now.

I just tested this, and it works

The good thing is that we have options with this game. You can turn trades on/off at anytime. So, I think I'm going to leave trades OFF until June 1st then switch it to ON. Once two or three trades trades or made then I'll switch it back to off for a while and adjust it accordingly.

Another great option is to be able to control any team at any time. That helps with any wacky trades you may see. If Albert is traded in July with the Cards up 10 games then, you can go in and take control and trade him back or compensate in another way. Although, I don't really see this as to big of a problem but, at least you have the option to fix it if you want.
where is the option to turn off trades?

30 team control, in global settings set trades to manual and everything else auto.

I didn't see this in the opening post so I assume it hasn't been addressed. If you go to the replay maker after the game and you sort the list of plays and you don't select a play it can get frozen saying you haven't selected any plays. The controller becomes worthless at this point. However, for some reason controller 2 is still active and you can continue as usual. I just discovered this today. I almost cut off the PS3 first though. Thought I'd pass it on.

Re: MLB '10 The Show Tips and Work Arounds

Some good news regarding Minor league promotions based on performance?:

7/8/10 Nats AAA SP Tyler Clippard gets called up to the MLB squad to take place of injured player

7/8/10 Nats AA SP Stephen Strausburg called up to AAA to take Clippard's spot

8/4/10 Nats SP Tyler Clippard sent down to AAA after MLB player recovers from injury

8/4/10 Nats SP Josh Smoker sent down to AA after Clippard comes back to AAA

Smoker AAA stats 8-9 4.33 ERA
Strausburg AA stats 6-4 3.63 ERA
Strausburg AAA stats 0-4 3.71 ERA
Matris (less overall than Smoker) AAA stats 6-5 3.66 ERA

So, is the logic there? They move correctly but only move when players are injured or recovered. I thought maybe they just kept Strausburg up becuase he was better overall, but if that were the case why wouldn't they send down Matris to AA instead of Smoker?

Is Strasburg on the 40 man? Typically the cpu will not put them on till they are Rule 5 eligible, thus they cannot be called up to MLB. Most of the time it is around 26 or 27. Too old for a top flight prospect. Also is Matris on 40 man?

Matris is on 40-man, Strausburg is not. Is it correct to assume, that if Strausburg is doing well in AAA and someone gets hurt in MLB, Strausburg will not be put on the 40-man roster and brought up to the MLB team?

What happens if we put the major prospects who should be called up in the next 2 years on the 40-man roster to begin the year? Will they get called up and stay up? Has anyone tried this?

Also does anyone know what affects the Organization's Team Strategy? I was hoping to control all 30 teams and put players on the trading block when the teams say they are rebuilding. But when I simulated everyteam remained Normal for strategy even when they were 25.0 GB in July.

That is why Matris was not sent down. From the testing I have done Strasburg will only be put on 40 man when he is rule 5 eligible or if he is traded to another team.

A lot of tests I have done he is in AA or AAA and making 8 million a season not on 40 man.

The cpu does alot of promotions using 40 man. Then they use salary, ratings and options available to determine who is on the MLB roster.

                          Interesting.

I just threw a few prospects (Austin Jackson, Sizemore, Ackley, Strausburg, Chapman, Alverez and few others) on the 40-man before I started a test sim. Stopped in mid-June. Austin Jackson has made it from single A to the MLB squad and most of the others have moved up to AAA. Those who moved up to AAA have stayed there after the player they replaced came back from injury. I'll keep simming and see how long it takes for them to make and stay in the big leagues.

Update: The following year these players that I had put on the 40-man roster when beginning the franchise broke camp with the MLB squad : Ackley, Sizemore, Austin Jackson, Brett Wallace, Chapman, Mike Stanton.

Those who remained in Minors (all AAA to start year): Pedro Alvarez, Strausburg, Ike Davis, Dominic Brown, Tyson Gillies

Seemed like they kept them in a minor leagues to begin since there wasn't really any room on the MLB team for their position. Looks pretty good when doing this.

Yeah key is to have them on the 40. The system needs some tweaking for sure, but if it just went on ratings in the matter of a season or two "real" players would almost all be replaced.

The key is to have players that are 'close" to big league ready on 40 man and have younger (17-19 yr old) prospects off. By the time they are 21 or 22 they will then have to be added to 40.

Yup, that's what I'm seeing as well. Guess I'll have to add them myself and pay attention to the CPU's minor league systems every now and then. Thanks for your insight.
