    Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

I am contemplating off loading Swisher for some prospects. I can get three A potential top tier prospects from any team in the playoff push mode for Swisher. The question is whether or not I should. Do I keep Swish for the playoff push myself in hopes of getting it all? or do I go with what I have and replenish the youth in my organization? Swisher is doing quite well as my number four outfielder and number 2 first baseman. When he doesn't start, he does a pretty good job of pinch hitting versus lefties in late games and can take over defensively for Dunn. So he does have a lot of team value and won't be replaced very easily. The flip side is that I have already decided not to re-sign him next season and give the job to Michael Taylor instead. Which is the only reason I would even consider making a move. I also don't want a trade to come back and bite me if Swisher does end up on a playoff team that I have to face. Oh the decisions to make.

Cards, funny you mention Michael Taylor. Last night I did my Nick Johnson for prospects deal, and him to the Mets for Taylor was my first choice. I figured it was a lock, as they currently have a struggling Ike Davis. But alas, the interest bar wouldn't even budge.

Are you looking to get Major League ready prospects for Swisher? I don't know... Wouldn't you kick yourself if a pinch hit was all that was between you and the pennant?

My gut says trade him, though. He's still in the .240's with me. It's his minimal left-handed hot zone that kills me. All in all, I'm happy to have him myself, but I can see, based on your plans, why you might like to stack the farm clubs.

I guess it really comes down to this year vs. years to come. Do you have a comfortable lead in the division/wildcard?

If you're up by double digits, I say do it. I'd consider it myself it it weren't for the frickin' Blue Jays!!! LOL I need my hits now. Not two years from now.

Besides, you may be able to pick up a Johnny Gomes type later on to fill that void if needed.

How did Michael Taylor end up on the Mets? I would probably kick myself for trading him away, since he did come up with some timely hits in last year's post season; the only reason I re-signed him for another year. I wouldn't be looking for MLB ready players, but perhaps some future middle infielders. I have Paxton that may convert from 3B to SS since Kouz can hold his own there for awhile. But it might be nice to have a young SS for the future and move Paxton back to 3rd. I drafted a 2nd baseman with pop last year, but he is still only 18 and will take some time to get to the show. Jemile Weeks looks to be the 2nd baseman for the time being and possible future. Outfield is pretty set for awhile, at least it will be after I re-sign Dunn. And I am certainly stacked with pitching. So even getting prospects for the future may be a waste since I don't have much room for them anyway.

On a side note, I played around with a trade to the Yankees, the only rebuilding team. I was able to trade some prospects for Texeira. I could then flip him for even better prospects than Swisher, except that I was limited in teams to trade with due to Tex's $17 million salary. Not enough teams could afford to take that on with their budget constraints. But I would love to break up that Yankee lineup. It is hard to say whether or not this is the only opportunity to do that. If I could do it for A-Fraud I would in a heart beat, but the Yankees wisely want way too much for him.

          JEMILE WEEKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The only reason I know who he is, is due to walk off he gave me in my most heartbreaking loss of the season.

I think Taylor landed in NY in the Reyes to Oakland deal (Weeks may have too now that I think of it). That was the first trade of the season like sometime in early May. I just figured with where they are currently (July 1), that they'd be willing to part with him for Johnson in order to win now.

          I was wrong.

I have found so far that you can trade almost any vet, regardless of potential, to playoff push teams for A potential prospect(s) IF they are not on the 25 man roster yet (may even be 40 man roster). That makes sense, as teams aren't going to trade away the players that have gotten them there, but they will mortgage away the future for a chance to win now.

I don't think either Johnson or Taylor were on the 40 man.

Good point, maybe Taylor was on the 40 man after the Mets trade...

I'll get back to you on this. I thought Johnson for Taylor would be a lock.

I know for certain that I never added Johnson.

Not your 40 man roster knucklehead; their 40 man roster. In fact, it is most likely that the vet you are trading would have to be on the 40 man roster, although I can't be certain about this. I have never thought to test it since I have never found a need to have a vet on my roster that isn't on the 40 man. Not a good one anyway.

                  Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

I see what you're saying. As soon as I downloaded the roster, I cut all teams' 40-Man down to 25, as to avoid the lineup glitch. I manually add to it for all teams as needed. By Sept 1, all teams will be back to 40, for the callups.

This is why both players aren't on the 40-man....silly.

I do know for certain that Taylor is in AAA. He definately was on the original 40 man BEFORE I cut it all down before the season. I'm kinda wishing now that I hadn't done this. I'd probably be seeing a lot more players being placed on waivers.

                    Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

I wish the 40 man logic were a little more fine tuned. Unless there is a trade, certain players stay off the 40 roster for way too long. Strasburg, for example, never got called up for the Nationals. It wasn't until he was traded that he ended up in the bigs, despite being the highest rated player on the Nats. Several other prospects are doing time in AAA because they haven't been put on the 40 roster yet, while new draft picks are skipping over them. I guess a simple fix to this would be to add these players to the 40 man before starting a franchise and then let the CPU call them up as needed.

I most likely won't trade away Swisher. He is just too versatile for me to get rid of him, even if he would garner a large haul from a playoff push team. Who knows if I will get a chance to play enough seasons to see the prospects I would get for him reach the big leagues. Let's just go for broke and try to win it all now. If I get an offer from another team though, that might change my mind.

That reminds me Hero, did you ever pull the trigger on the Kershaw trade?

                      Re: **All Trades Discussion Thread**

I'm purposly posturing myself in a "Kershaw scenario" as we speak.

I'll go into more detail later on the specifics of the Johnson to Houston deal, as I can only remember the last names and potential of the prospects I recieved in return, but combining that with the A potential Mike Minor deal I made earlier, I have plenty of high rated minor leaguers to trade for another ace if needed.

I'm debating on Ricky Nolasco too. He's in the last year of his deal, and the Marlins are so far back it's funny.

I compiled a wishlist of possible pinch hitters to trade for (to fill the power verses lefty void that Thames isn't giving me off of the bench). Between Johnny Gomes, Matt Stairs, and Cody Ross (as well as several other candidates), believe it or not, Cody Ross, who's still in Florida in my franchise, has by far the highest rating vs. lefties in the power department. I may look into him if my offense gets cold again.

Here's the issue on replacing Vazquez with Kershaw/Nolasco/Wandy Rodriguez/etc: Vazquez has been pitching well lately!!! What the Hell?! But, Pettitte has been getting murdered as of late. I think I need to throw more balls out of the zone with him.

If I do a deal like this, I'll probably pull the string during the All-Star break. I guess Vazquez still has a couple starts left to win me over; that, or improve his trade value in my mind. LOL

Well I had no clue until today that you could control the trades. I noticed the trade block is insane on my league. Pujols is the best player in my league and the cards put him on the trade block? Why the heck would they do that? I feel kind of dumb starting over though. Only two trades made so far in the league i'm running but I can sense there will be more. The trade block is nuts. I dont think i want to restart the league though but this is kind of nuts how many guys are sitting there ready to be traded. Big name players too.

I've been trying to deal Jeff Francoeur too for any kind of pitching but no luck at all.

If you run 30 team control, just go to the Cards and pull Pujols back.

If not, don't worry about it too much. He's been on the block all season in my franchise. So, staring over wouldn't help much. That, and just being on the block CERTAINLY will not guarentee he'll be traded.

That, and if you start over, he'll more than likely go back on the block. He's on the last year of his contract; the CPU recognizes this, and wants to get something before he walks and they only get draft pick compensation.

Don't worry about the block so much. In real life, about 90 percent of players are on "the block". It is just in this game that you can actually see the block. Most players on the block will not be traded during your season. Players like Pujols, Fielder, and Howard are on the block every year of my franchise and none have been traded so far. In 2012 of my franchise, the rebuilding Yankees have pretty much their entire 25 man roster on the block, but unfortunately have not traded any of them yet. I keep hoping that machine will be dismantled, but with only a week or so left before the deadline, it doesn't look promising.

One of the better things about 30 team control....and instant trades off...
You can keep checking the pending transactions and simply go in and reject any trade you don't want to happen.
I've found that teams...while they will keep trying the same trade...will also try different avenues to obtain their needs if you reject them on certain deals.

I'm sorry...I know some guys for whatever reason either can't wrap their heads around 30 team control or simply won't embrace it(most saying they hate the June draft...but c'mon really?....you'll give up the chance to shape your franchise for years just because you don't want to do 150 picks....the 145 for the other teams basically hitting one button to see what player they want and then the other to make the pick for them...OR...let the CPU pick for you and then curse out your horrible scouts and GM assistant for those 5 picks!)...but I can't say enough about the addition of this to the game.
It's really the best of both worlds.
