Very good point. I can't remember which game it was, but one of them you could tap a button to run faster to first. As it turns out, you end up tapping that button every single time you run to first. Since that is the case, why not make the default just running as fast as possible to first?
About the thrown out on ball four, I thought it was obvious that a player wouldn't try to take second if he just jogged down to first, whereas a faster player would try to take second by hustling. Therefore, I couldn't figure out how a slow runner would get thrown out. Don't you just love how the obvious isn't quite as obvious when dealing with electronic communications?
