Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

First of all once again the game lives up to all the hype and frankly doesn't get enough hype IMO. Of about 40 people at Gamestop last night about 90% of them were there for Dragon Age 2. I feel bad for all the 360 owners who have to settle for 2K11.

Anyway, graphics. As usual they're stellar and the attention to detail especially in the stadium is mind blowing. Character models haven't really changed but what's great about this years game is the batting stances are much more fluid. No longer is there that akward looking practice swing after taking a ball or strike. There's more attention to detail on the players pre bat ritual. Just all around better experience at the plate.

The use of a variety of camera angles allows the player to really adjust the camera based on their comfort level allowing myself and others to see the ball better. I know for me personally I'm using offset 2 for batting and wow can I ever see the ball. I use pitcher angle for pitching.

The broadcast announcers are a lot of the same but some tweaks have made it much more enjoyable, along with the new soundtrack for this game which is awesome.

Little things like the broadcasters going back through the pitches the pitcher threw to get an out is awesome. Along with the player of the game award at the end of a game. Just so cool.

I'll admit I'm not using the new analog control. Maybe I will in time but not right now. Hitting IMO seems to be easier this year but I think the choice of camera angles may help that as well. Hitting is still challenging as it should be but it's not as bad as last year.

Maybe the best tweak of all is the outfielders. They no longer catch everything that comes their way. They make more mistakes, take bad angles, and just barely miss the ball at times which is what happens on tricky flies to the outfield.

I cannot give this game a perfect 10 as I'm sure I'll find flaws as I play. I've also yet to play online which has always been a nasty issue for this game. Although I don't buy this game for online play. I'll give it an outstanding 9 though. This game has definitely spoiled us and it will always be a challenge for SCEA to one up it's brother from the year before. But they did it in 2011!

Been adding all the extra sounds (Vendors, errors, organs etc...) and I'm sooo pumped I went out to get a drink and was all giddy (Yeah I'm 44 ...so what) and the wife asked "What's your problem?"

      I said "Cleanup..Isle Me...."

She rolled her eyes and said "Whatever.."

      jeesh what a game....!!

I"m nearly 44 and about to do the same thing. I am just now installing the game. I'm going to have to check out the sounds you speak of... Also, I heard the practice modes are cool, so I'm going to check those out for awhile before I dive face first into RTTS!

On the surface, this game looks exactly like MLB 10.

Once you get the controls and gameplay...this game is 10 times more realistic, at least for me, and extremely organic in it's gameplay.

The pitching is a challenge but it isn't impossible. The hitting, for me, is much easier. If I see a mistake now, I can capitalize *note: I use timing*.

I think the biggest compliment I can give this game is that it feels like baseball.

Dont get me wrong I think the analog pitching controls were done great just not for me. I don't like the hitting though because it seems only timing based. I got more hits on it when I tried it than when I was using zone now.

I thought analog was timing as well before but not anymore. You have total full control of where you want to hit the ball.

Analog is the ultimate in full swing in this game. It is the one thing that is truly immersive when it comes to hitting. Far more then pitching

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

Just finished my first game, White Sox (CPU) @ Red Sox (me). Default All Star (pitch speed down 3 clicks), timing hitting, classic pitching.

Won the game 7-5. Adrian Gonzalez made his presence known immediately, as he went 3-4 with 2HR's and 4 RBI, including a go ahead 2 run HR in the 8th off Sale on a hanging changeup. Saltalamacchia added an opposite field HR in the 2nd inning. Crawford was 1-3 with 2BB's and 2SB. Lester pitched well, but had a rough 4th inning. Wound up going 6IP with 2ER and 4 K's.

Everything played GREAT. There were a lot of hits for both teams, but both teams feature high powered offenses. This game reassured me that i'll definitely be using Wide Offset, as it tremendously helps me identify pitches. Had Peavy at 100 pitches in the 5th inning.

Biggest thing I took from this game is how great classic pitching is this year. As I said in an earlier post, pitches don't miss by feet anymore, unless you put a LOT of extra effort into them. I was locating well with Lester until he got tired. Still had 3BB's with him as well, so it's not like I was hitting the mitt every time.

The lighting transition was unbelievable. Can't believe how much better this aspect is.

              Off to play another game!

Next game Francis of Royals shuts out pirates 4-0

Royals no errors so your right its all about sample size, and they made alot of great catches.

Gave up 3 homers had chances but was playing in polo so hit alot of balls to center bad idea

Well, I just played my first game online, and it was a smooth as I could hope for. I beat some guy 3-2 with the Cubs, as he was the Yanks.

If we can maintain this type of connection and lag free play, leagues will be crazy this year!

Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

So I decided to play as the Phillies and pitch with Lee, just to see the difference between a guy like Lester who has control issues, and a guy with impeccable control.

Pitching with Cliff is just silly. It's almost impossible to miss your spot with his fastball. I feel like i'm just toying with the Padres lineup right now.

EDIT: WOW, just saw one of the coolest plays ever in a baseball game. I struck out on a slider in the dirt with Victorino. The catcher got the ball by the backstop and overthrew the first baseman by a mile. I go to take second with Victorino, and the right fielder airmails the second basemen into left field, so I made it over to third. Basically turned a strikeout into a triple

I'm playing this game in the rain BTW, so that may have something to do with it. I'll take it though. It's hard as hell to catch up with Latos' heater!

Yes Blanks still has the fro

No on Kelly or Rizzo, neither has made their MLB debut yet. Headley looks awesome though. They finally fixed his hair color and they gave him the beard he rocked last season. Also have his stance down perfect.

just played my second game and I got shelled. I started a franchise just to do Spring Training and use a lot of different players so I don't know if its the "air" and what not by I got absolutely destroyed. Lost 10-2. Gave up 4 in the first with Latos, 2 2run HR. I couldn't hit my spots for the life of me and they made me pay. I seemed to pitch better with Luebke in my 4-3 win then with my ace.

My only issue i've had is that when you start a franchise, it auto saves every time, which takes quite a while. Makes fantasy drafts a pain, as if I don't like my pick, I restart the draft. Well I have to wait for it to auto save every time.

Any way to shut off the auto save at the beginning of every franchise?

I'm going to play devils advocate here and say while yes it is a fantastic game, it isn't the step up it should be. To me it's '09 with a facelift and some minor improvements.

-I'm a stats whore and The Show's overlays are starting to become very stale and not in depth enough

-What a waste of time getting in a new commentator, then giving him the exact same lines as the guys he's replacing! Seriously?!? Commentary needs a complete overhaul

-I created a CP for RTTS, but i seem to be waiting for the game to load/save more than i do playing the game. Terrible load and save times

But in saying that, i haven't stopped playing since i got it!

                              Cheers!

Auto save is in the options menu at the bottom, where you set up your profiel options
