Re: Official MLB 11 The Show - Impressions Thread

Just played some Home Run Derby and I gotta give big props to SCEA. I love the camera angles and presentation, it really is addicting.

The power seems a bit juiced though. I took lowly Maicer Izturis and was hitting opposite field shots and pulled one 449 feet (HOF batting level.) Fortunately the sliders work so I adjusted power all the way down and couldn't hit one 400 feet. Ended up with 2 HR's with most going to the warning track and no opposite field power.

I then adjusted the power slider all the up to max and he cranked one 464 feet. Yep, sliders work.

Other than toning down the default power my only suggestion is maybe give us the ability to tell the pitcher where to throw it? It's subjective at this point but it seems he throws it mainly in the middle or slightly inside so you can pull it. I'd like to see how many opp field shots I can hit and wish I could adjust his aim. Also, a slider effecting his aim in general would also be nice - the 'pitcher accuracy' slider didn't seem to do anything.

You have to adjust sliders before going in HR Derby, so I'd suggest minimizing power and maybe bumping down contact and solid hits a bit as well (if you want realistic results.)

HR Derby is pretty cool with the Move.

Played 2 games so far had to face brave twice won one 2-1 A's

Next went to extra's and Jonathan Lecroy hit a solo bomb in 12 and Axford held on.

Seriously being able to set how you want to hit, and pitch and all your camera angles.

          Its simply amazing.

My impression is online is awesome, will ability to customize

I dont think the casual user is going to notice or care, and I knew this going in because the demo was the same way but I bought it anyway. It's more of a subtle thing rather than an angry bug right in your face. But baseball is all about pitching & hitting so to me it's an issue that needs to be looked at.

I'd like to see SCEA contract with the company that produces those state of the art $175,000 pitching machines which MLB teams use. They had to do major studies on the physics of pitched balls; and they now have all the data which took them years to collect.

Back to impressions: I'm really starting to like fielding. Since I have a hang of it I'm going to see if there's a way to turn off all the colors and stuff. Reminds me I'm playing a videogame LOL.

Loving this game so far... Huge improvements over 10. Only complaint is when pitching I can barely see the arrows that indicate the movement of the pitch.

Anyone else having this issue, or am I just getting old and blind?

First one is Joe Mauer vs CC Sabathia at Target Field. The first time I fell behind 0-2 because I was tyring to swing the the stick. You start off on the "Rookie" difficulty as you continue your streak you progress to "Vetran" and "All-Star". I assume it keeps going but I never got higher that AS. As the level increases so do your points I beleive. Funny thing it took me a while to get going on rookie. Your strikes carry over so, just know that no matter how man balls you take the strikes carry over.

At first glace it's kinda like HR Derby or practice mode. CC is pitching and you are trying to rake. The scoring system favors the hot streak. My second time through (I bout 5 tries for $1 not a bad value if I was good or thought the prize was something I really wanted.) I got going a bit and managed to get around 160,000 points before I got an out or took a strike. Yes taking a strike will cause you to have to start your streak over again. But that little rally did pay some dividends. (I'll show those later:wink

At the end of the round there is a nice little spray chart that shows what you did that round. It's a nice visual to see. I liked it. All in all I think the mode is pretty cool.

I did manage to get a nice streak going and even got into the Top 10 of the leader board!

That said unless the prize is a week staying at Adam Jones' house I will probably never spend a lot of money on the mode. But it is good fun and you can really get going. The #4 guy had 30 attempts! (Must be a Mauer fan) So this mode may not be for me to try to win a prize but it's good just to see where you stack up in "The Show Nation".com.

Change your online user settings and you can use Analog batting

You aren't throwing errors because of how much power you are using, its because you are offline on the press to the base.

When you throw to second base (North) you want to press up to true north when you start to miss true north is when you will see yellow, and red throws.

So does power affect the accuracy of a throw at all? To me, if you take a little off your throw, that should allow you more wiggle room on the stick accuracy. When you throw at full effort, you better hit the accuracy right on the nose, otherwise it's going to be a wild throw.

                        Is that how it works?

My first impressions is wow game looks and plays great. I figured pitching would be easy for me to get the hang of but not so much, lol. Hitting I actually thought this is where I would struggle to start with but I got a good feel of the analog stick from the start. really its just like you would hit in real life so I am very pleased with how I caught on. Gone to have to really work on my pitching since it seems to be a little harder than I imagined but love the way it feels. Great job SCEA. Of course there are some bugs that need fixed. I am hoping the Player cardsthat are screwed up canbe fixed in a roster update. The only on I saw was Chris Vailika (spelling wrong) player card is wrong it has Stubbs is face but other than that everything seemed good although not played alot yet.

                                SCEA, YOU'VE GOT MY ATTENTION!

This is in 3, THE WHOLE PACKAGE!

You guys have really outdone yourselves here. The lighting, player models, gameplay, "little things", RTTS improvements, batting practice types, etc... I can go on and on.

Playing the demo does not do this game justice.

I can't get over how smooth this game plays and looks.

The rain is so well done that it really looks like you're watching a live broadcast during a game in the rain. Next year, rain outs.

One thing I need to do is get used to the back n' forth motion for hitting. I can't tell you how many times I've bunted by mistake. The hitting practice will get me out of that. Almost reminds me of the NCAA MVP hitting system. Almost... I do like how everyone has a different first step. Great job with it.

Anyway, I need to get back to playing this awesome game.

                                Last thing to say.

G.O.T.Y. Write it down, take a picture, I don't care what anyone else says. THIS IS IT! I'M LIVING IT BABY!!!
