M.K, I can't seem to get franchise mode to work by having manual traning. I assign the 29 teams a "custom" profile, and the team I really want to focus on with "custom 2 profile", with everything manual. However, it seems it automatically makes all 30 teams have all the same settings, so the CPU isn't accepting any trades. Any ideas?

Go to the USER SETTINGS....then use the R/L buttons(I think R2/L2) to cycle through the profiles you have.....get to the one you want the league to follow and hit the SET AS DEFAULT option.

Thanks M.K, one last Q:
Is it normal for big names like Michael Stanton to accept 2M/yr. contracts during arbitration? I would think they would decline.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
I'm seeing a couple of weird things in the 4th offseason. Both Votto and Yavani Gallardo agreed to 1 year 400K deals from me.In another sim, the Padres signed Votto to a 4 year deal even though they already had Fielder in the last year of his deal. All teams but me had less than 15 million in cap room the next spring training-I have about 60 to 70 million. All this is with training off for all teams but offseason stuff to auto for other 29 teams.I hope I don't have to take over all contracts for all 30 teams going forward, but I may need to oversee negotiations for the As and Bs.
I think all this is just bad decisions by the game ai. I'm not having any trouble re-signing players as long as I avoid re-signing A overalls. I mostly try to re-sign B's and C's.I'll check later the contracts the other 29 teams have on their roster.
Phillies signed 35 year old Chase Utley to a 7 year deal last offseason. I'm just going to have to go in and cut all A overalls on all teams over the age of 30 and sign them to reasonable deals. They need to do what I did with Votto, give him a 2 year deal with a team option.
Unfortunately, just having training off for all teams will still lead to teams busting their budgets in 3-4 years. You'll need to oversee contracts for the other 29 teams to avoid this.Either that or cut the players later on like I will have to this next offseason and re-open negotiations.Last edited by Mike3207; 05-22-2011, 04:12 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
I've gone through and read most of these posts and I'm still a little confused...This is my first year with the Show so I'm hoping I can get some help from the vets here. I'm using Knight's full minors opening day roster for my roster. I'm getting ready to set up a 30 team control franchise. Basically I want to control the every day lineups/pitching rotations of all the teams, who the cpu calls up from the minors when guys get hurt, and trades between the cpu teams. When I say control trades I don't mind the cpu teams making trades between each other, but I want to avoid unrealistic trades (team like the Phillies trading for Fielder when they already have Howard)
Based on what I've read I believe I understand how to control the FA problem with just setting the training to manual and unchecking everything, and I also believe I have an idea of controlling possible goofy cpu trades by just setting the trades to not be accepted right away and I can check them everyday.
Here's what my settings will look like I plan on keeping lineups/rotations, 40 man roster, and training on manual and everything else on auto for the 29 teams I will not be directly playing their games. My question is in regard to all aspects (setting lineups, avoiding the F/A problem a few years in, etc) of setting up a 30 team control franchise. Do I need to create 30 different profiles and assign a different one to each team? Or Can I create just two different profiles, one for the team I am going to use and play during my franchise, and the other profile set to control all the other 29 teams?
Also the last thing I just want to make sure post patch that if I sent the 40 man rosters of all 30 teams myself the last day of spring training that they hold through the regular season, but the computer will still give guys rest?
Thanks for the help guys.Last edited by morecali778; 05-22-2011, 02:29 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
POST PATCH FRANCHISE SETUP to alleviate later years in your franchise having the FA list getting filled with top talent that should be signed.
Thanks to tabarnes19 for this tip!...
There are essentially two solutions to the Free Agent issue that now occurs in 2015.
1.) One is to turn budgets off. This allows the cpu to sign players above the "salary cap."
From reading the description of budget off and some basic testing the only negative is the cpu will not take finances into effect when making trades and signings. This appears to be the only "fix" for single user franchises.
2.) The best solution that I have seen is to use 30 team control with training set to manual for ALL profiles. The key here is to make sure that NOTHING is checked in training for ALL teams. Easiest way is to set training to Manual on all profiles before starting a franchise since the cpu will not assign any training.
If you have already started a franchise--after switching all profiles to manual---go through each team and uncheck all training assignments.
From what I can see this seems to eliminate any issues with players until the 2016 offseason. At that point if you want to "step in" and make a low ball offer to a Big Name player or two the cpu seems to have cash and will sign them.
One thing that I would suggest and is optional is this....
Since patch the CPU seems to sign almost ALL Big name free agents before they hit open market in exclusive period. To allow some of those players to hit the market I have been using this work around...
When you start offseason..on all profiles..in User Settings..Mode Options...change contracts to manual...Then sim to day before exclusive period is over. So if period ends the 7th highlight the sixth and sim to date. A prompt will appear asking if you want to stop sim due to last day. Hit yes and go back to contracts and change back to auto for all teams except the one you are controlling. Offer to your team what you want, the cpu is doing the same. When you sim to next day you will notice that some players will be resigned by cpu on that last day before they hit the market. Others will hit the market but the cpu will still offer contracts to it's own free agents. Some will resign with the original team even after (think Jeter last year) and others will switch teams.
I see No reason not to use 30 team control now since it is an identical mode now with 1p. Strategies change for ALL teams and it allows you the ability to scroll through other teams lineups and rotations. You can step in as much or little as you would like. I usually never do, but like I said it allows that option of you so choose.

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Knight165...
Don't know if this is the type of thing you were looking for to put in this thread, but maybe this falls under the category of a tip?
A nice little adjustment: hitting camera offset to the inside...
I was gonna see if a mod could sticky the thread by itself, but figured it might do just fine in here.
All ties severed...Comment

I avoided the problem with my team by signing the B overalls with A potential long term before they became A's. I've also made it deep in the playoffs 3 years and likely a fourth so I've got about 60 million in cap room. You can do training off but you will have to oversee all A overall signings to avoid the FA bug.Last edited by Mike3207; 05-22-2011, 08:16 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Off. Unfortunately, it doesn't work; at least not in my case. I'm in year 4 and teams bust their budgets by signing the A overall players. 2b Chase Utley was signed to a 7 year deal when he was 35. Your budget will hold 1 or 2 of these players but teams are signing 3-6. I'm going to have to cut all the A overalls into FA.Teams have about 15 million in cap room at best the 5th spring training but no more 15 million dollar player will be signed without major cuts.I guess you have a choice-you can either sign these 15-20 million dollar players and bust your budget or cut them and have end up in FA; not a good choice either way.

If you have training MANUAL (off) AND make sure that none of the teams have any training sessions checked off....you don't have to oversee the FA's.
If budgets are off...there is no way teams can go over budget.

I'm going through the 4th offseason now. Last time I did a sim Votto agreed to a 4 year, 1.80 million dollar deal, 450K a year. That shouldn't happen if he is offered 8 million in arbitration, unless he's worried about a contract past this year. The Rays also ran out of money in that sim last night. I'll report back when I get to spring training.
The 2014/2015 offseason was a good time for a team with plenty under the player budget, and a bad time for free agents. Superstars that were expecting 15-18 million got 5 million or worse.Votto signed for 4 yrs 1.80 million, I also signed King Felix for 4 year, 14.0 million(3.5 a year) with a club option. The Pirates signed SS Hanley Ramirez to 1 yr, 6.1 million. Finally, SP Yavani Gallardo got a 1 yr, 4.4 million deal from the Astros. All teams bur mine have 16 million or less under the cap, a lot have less than 10.Last edited by Mike3207; 05-23-2011, 11:22 AM.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
Knight, I figured out the source of the problem. It's putting everything on Auto that messes things up. I created a new franchise and put offseason to Auto for 4 offseasons. I saw the same thing I saw before, all the type As sitting in FA with no bids. Teams bust their budgets by offering arbitration and long term deals to 30 year olds, then have to cut the most expensive players and they sit in FA until the next offseason.
The fifth offseason, I put my offseasons setting to Manual I offered everyone 450K/10 yrs. For a lot of them, it was the only bid they received. I declined arbitration for all my arb eligible players. They all accepted the bids around Feb 15. If you put Contracts or Free Agency to Auto, even with training manual and unchecked, the teams will bust their budgets. If you have that stuff to Manual, you;ll do a good job of managing budgets. The Game AI just does a poor job of managing contracts.Last edited by Mike3207; 05-24-2011, 12:24 PM.Comment

Re: MLB '11 The Show: Tips and Work Arounds
General Tips:
Players will progress in Single-A but not get hot or cold streaks. It's ideal with players who have F's for all attributes.
Players with no MLB Service can be signed to any contract, any length.
You can only draft up to 10 players each draft. no matter how many picks you have.
Teams will draft by overall, unless potential is revealed.
Players 26 and up will sign for less in spring training then they will in the offseason.
Club options cost nothing to include with acontract in the offseason, but are more expensive than a straight year contract in spring training.Comment
