You call these guys good CF to trade for. I see one viable option in here.

Not after they just signed him to a 5 year extension this year. They want to rebuild around him.

They traded Santos shortly after he was signed to a club friendly extension

I never used the word good. I was referring to the request of fair trade targets for the Mets.

Good ones are obvious ones like Adam Jones, BJ Upton etc

And that's a closer .... Not a SP they just signed to a pretty hefty deal. Not go mention the santos trade was stupid and was unjustified

Ok I'm really gonna stop posting in here after this but I just signed Javier Vazquez so I want to get rid of a starter and strengthen my bullpen.

Two potential trade partners are Cleveland and Arizona. Cleveland is currently 42-37, 4 games out of first in the AL Central. Arizona is currently leading the NL West at 50-29. Here are two trades I've looked at:

A's get: RP Robinson Tejada (B), 1B Beau Mills (C)
Indians get: SP Bartolo Colon (A)
This gives me the help I need in the bullpen both this year and in the future with Tejada being only 29. The Indians add to their rotation and can easily replace Tejada by moving Fausto Carmona to the bullpen

A's get: RP David Hernandez (A), 1B Bobby Borchering (B)
Diamondbacks get: SP Bartolo Colon (A), SP Graham Godfrey (C)
This is the trade I am in favor of making. Hernandez could be a big part of my bullpen for years to come, and I make up for the loss of Chris Carter with Borchering. The DBacks get a starter to replace Cahill while he is injured. When Cahill returns Colon strengthens the back end of their rotation. Borchering is expendable because they have A potential 1B prospect Paul Goldschmidt.

why wudd the Snakes give up their set-up guy if they're in first? especially since they're not dealing from a position of strength? is Hernandez spitting the bit this year in ur franchise? do they not have anybody in the minors worthy of being promoted?

Hernandez is 4-2 with a 3.18 ERA in 23 appearances

They also have RPs Joe Patterson and Bryan Shaw, both with B potential and 25 and 24 years old respectively.

that's not terrible....i dont see a contending team trading a valuable bullpen arm for a 5th starter unless they have some depth behind him

That's true and especially not for a rental like Colon who could very well retire after this season (in the game). Hernandez has shown since coming over from the O's in the Reynolds deal that he's their go to guy when Putz is banged up or needs a day off.

the robbing peter to pay paul idea is very risky in baseball....if the OP is not satisfied with his bullpen, maybe he shudd look at guys from non-contending teams.....take a closer with a hefty salary and make him your set-up guy...that's not unrealistic by any means or if he really lusts after Hernandez, give up a lil more than an aging 5th starter

                              Shaw is 4-1, 3.09 ERA, 23 K, 15 BB in 32 innings, Patterson is 3-1, 4.21 ERA, 17 K, 13 BB in 25.2 innings.

I'm not set on Hernandez, I just want a good, preferably young, reliever. Any ideas?
