If no miss 1B prospect or a solid current 1B came along in a trade, Goldschmidt would be expendable, but the 1B free agent market is awful in 2013 so it'd take a lot to pry him loose.Comment

In regards to Goldschmidt, he's got a pretty long leash within the organization, but he also has lost significant playing time. The only thing that really assures him that long leash is the lack of suitable replacement. Matt Davidson could be a 1B at some point, but the Dbacks are equally weak at 3B which is his primary position.
