First impressions: let me start with saying hitting is way easier than years last I'm playing on HoF and batted around in the first inning in my 2nd game. I can already tell sliders need to be adjusted in speed it needs to be higher. The CPU is easier to strike out which is good, also they make a lot more errors in just 2 games I've seen the CPU make 3 erros

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Proof
I have to say: I'm really impressed with the Vita improvements.
1: There's a lot more presentation than I was expecting... Almost every play has some sort of close up after the action. This adds A LOT to the overall package.
2: Graphics have been improved substantially (especially in night games).
3. Though the frame rate does dip every once in a while- it's MILES ahead of last years version.
4. And this is big... The variety of hits and "looseness" of the plays... It really feels organic this year. It's hard to put into words- but it really feels great. Bloop singles- balls sailing just over infielders heads.. All things I almost never saw last year.
SO far loving it!Comment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
There was a question yesterday someone asked about the sun to dusk to dark and how it looked, well I played a bunch of games in the afternoon and the it really follows the real time look and feel of going from afternoon bright sunlight , then the shadows of later afternoon to dusk and the to complete dark, it looks so cool as the shadows affect how you are seeing the ball in later afternoon till dusk, they nailed this for sure. When you come to a fork in the road, take it..... Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Game is awesome on both platforms as I already mentioned. Was playing a game this morning and was amazed at the hit variety. I am playing on AS default accross the board and every game ive played so far has been different with tons of hit varieties. You can tell the hitting physics have been adjusted for the better.
Also, I was thinking about increasing pitch speed a little since I was ahead of alot of pitches until I was the Rockies facing Strasburg and quickly realized that it was fine the way it was on default. Strasburg is a beast in this game and throws some major heat and some nasty breaking ballswas not able to catch up to his fastball at all. Awesome job SCEA on this years game!!

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Picked up the game last night. Played the first two games of the NLDS, Giants vs Reds @GABP. All star across the board. I won the first game 2 to 1 & the second game 3 to 2 (Buster tied it with a two run homer in the 9th).
The good:
The commentary is very much improved. Not only is there a new announcer but there are new lines across the board. Yes, some stuff sounds familiar but I was pleasantly surprised at the upgrade.
Graphics are a bit sharper/more polished. Not huge but nice.
LOVE the between inning transitions. The music is GREAT and the overlays are super sharp. Very, very nice.
Timing window is wider & pitches a bit easier to read. This has me chomping at the bit to crush everything so you still need to be patient and wait back.
Infield play is GREAT. Lots of new animations, physics, etc. In terms of actual gameplay, I see more difference here than anywhere else.
The colors associated with each different pitch is now very obvious when you review the at bat. I didn't realize how annoying it was that they all looked virtually the same until now. Very nice!
The not so good:
I am getting the pitch stutter. Not much in the first game but A LOT toward the end of game 2. If necessary, I will download the PSN version. Whatever it takes to fix this.
Auto base running doesn't seem "right". Not nearly aggressive enough. In fact, I was nearly thrown out at second on a clean single to left field and a man @ first.
I rarely use guess pitch. Only when protecting with two strikes and afraid of the low and away pitch (my nemesis). Well, guess pitch has changed. Instead of the indicator coming up before the pitch is throw (1/4 option) it now comes up WHILE the pitch is being thrown...right before the pitch arrives. This is a huge distraction and makes the feature almost worthless IMO (I can hear the haters cheering). The distraction coupled with the possible stutter equals grrrrrr!!!
Batting practice now looks like home run derby. There is an arc that follows every hit pitch and I don't like it. At all. Not sure what the thinking here was.
Overall, I am pleased and will be thrilled when I solve the pitch stutter issue. I take the first Tuesday in March as a vacation day every year (my staff knows it is "High Heat Day") so having it early is a nice bonus in advance of Tuesday.

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Got the game today, but wrote 'March 1' by accident:
Played one full game so far, losing 5-3 to the Astros (!) as the Athletics. That was on veteran too, looks like I'll have to get used to this game again! I'm really loving the new presentation though, and the crowd are very dynamic as usual.
I've not played long but the one small glitch I've noticed is that the music skips/jumps on some of the main menus, but that's something I can easily live with. Will probably post more impressions in a bit.Comment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
I'm yet to really get stuck in, but here are some early impressions:
- Adjusting to pitch speed will take some time, but it seems to immediately help with taking pitches, which as ever is your friend. I'm finding it easier to work into deeper counts aswell.
- AI batters don't seem to have at-bats where they foul everything off in sight. The strikes, balls and glove icon all seem bigger. I'm sure that in time, I'll get used to it.
- The presentation is excellent. It looks and feels like a real broadcast.Comment

Also, with regards to presentation, Steve Lyons is a big improvement over Dave Campbell.Comment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
Just got the game yesterday.
There seems to be a serious problem with the amateur draft AI. Remember those pre-scouted blue chip prospects? These prospects don't get picked up by the computer and last until the later rounds. In the drafts I had, I was able to get 5-6 superstar potential players. This pretty much makes investing in scouting useless because there is always a fully scouted superstar in every round.Attached FilesComment

Re: MLB 13 The Show Impressions Thread
The new MLB rule where the pitcher fakes to third and throws/looks to first has been implemented already. If you try the pitcher will just step off and toward the first base.
The reaction time when taking control of a infielder has improved. It seems to me when there is a grounder/squib type hit, you can get control of fielder very quickly.
I have yet to see a pitcher nailed by a comeback hit. (small sample size)
The few stadiums I have had a chance to play in look fantastic. Comerica, Nationals Park and Wrigley field come to mind.
It might just be me, or the new throwing system, but it seems like I am seeing more close plays at first base. (more realistic in my opinion)
Earlier I stated that sliders would need to be tweaked more this yr. After playing a few games, I think it may be finding your playing level comfort first, then a slight tweak of sliders to playing preference.Last edited by NAFBUC; 03-02-2013, 01:39 PM.Comment
