Re: 2013 The Show Official Trade Discussion Thread

Out of contention in my Pirates 'chise and looking to deal a hot hitting Garrett Jones, and the Rockies could use a RF/1B because of injuries.

Would it be realistic to get Kyle Parker/Plus for Garrett Jones. I know in real life the Pirates have had a high price tag on Jones in the past, just not too familiar with how the Rockies view Parker

    Thanks in advance

I dont know why. I don't really like either of them, plus we have good depth...

Would the Phillies consider trading Darin Ruf for a starting pitcher straight up (such as Luke Hochevar)?

My gut says no because the Phillies appear to be high on Ruf (plus the salary factor) but if they need arms to chew up innings then they might be willing to part with him since they have a surplus of outfielders... Perhaps I'm reading too much into this.

I just wanted to hear what others had to say on the subject.

when do the phillies have a surplus of OF? I would say they have a pitching surplus

They've got 6-7 guys going at it for 3 spots.... That seems to define surplus. They only need around 4-5 of those guys.

and none of them are that good or proven yet, so if they have 6-7 guys fighting for the spots it's not a good thing... that means they lack quality depth at any of those 3 positions.

Ya and out if those guys maybe 3 are every day OF. Surplus is just as much about quality as it is about quantity.

exactly, they'll have to platoon every position because they don't have everyday guys there...

Looking for advice on a trade offered to me by the AI.

I'm the Astros, year 2 of my franchise.

                    The Giants have offered

                    SP Tim Lincecum

                    For

                    1B John Singleton

                    Here's stats:

                    SP Tim Lincecum (A) 29
                    2013: 10-16 128SO 5.42 ERA
                    2014: 3-4 45SO 4.03 ERA 67 IP 32 BB

                    1B John Singleton (A) 22
                    AAA 2014: .269 AVG 6 HR 24 RBI 216 AB 33 BB 35 SO .368 OBP

Kind of thinking working out this deal. I have a lot of top prospects, what should I toss in to make this deal realistic? My pitching staff is terrible so I may need to overpay.

Singleton is way too much for a declining Lincecum. I'd only give a low B or two for Lincecum personally

Actually quite on the contrary. Ben Revere is a sure lock for center field. If Domonic Brown continues his strong showing I bet the right field job is his. Then your probably looking at a John Mayberry Jr. and Laynce Nix/Delmon Young platoon (probably Young if he's healthy).

                        Yup.

                        Really?

The Phillies have plenty of proven talent in their outfield. Ben Revere is a.274 hitter through 989 ABs, Laynce Nix has 10 years of MLB service under his belt, Delmon Young may be awful but at least you know what to expect from him because he has 7 years under his belt, heck even John Mayberry Jr. is a solid major league regular.

There are some guys close to proving their worth like Domonic Brown and Darin Ruf but really they aren't that far off.

The other outfielders in camp are just minor league guys who are "competing for a spot" but have no realistic chance to crack the roster.

They're more than likely going to enter the year with 4 outfielders so that leaves 2-3 guys for depth. And everyone knows you can't have enough pitching (especially with the health problems) so wouldn't it make sense to trade an outfielder for an arm on a team where pitching is everything?

Really? I was thinking his stats may had been due to the strong hitting division he's in. My division doesn't have near the amount of weapons on offense so I figured he could do much better with my team. If he's really going on the decline, I definitely don't want to give up a top prospect though. I'm still rebuilding myself, was hoping I'd get a good 5-6 years out of Lincecum before he dropped off.

No room for Smoak in Philly with Howard signed to a monstrous long term deal there. They could use Nick Franklin though...Franklin and Wells for Dom Brown and a high C?
