Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

    Name: Chad Abercrombie
    Position: Custom SS
    B/T: Switch/Right

I don't remember the skillset, but I remember that I had 5/5 Arm and 5/5 Speed.

The showcase was pretty decent. Not too shabby, but I know I could've done better.

Draft day came up and I recall telling my brother, "If I get drafted by the Marlins, I'm killing myself."

I got drafted by the Marlins.

I ended up being a double-a starter and getting 11 games in, batting .464 with 2 HRs, 12 RBIs, and 7 SBs...and then I tore my achilles sliding into second base. I was so damn furious. I was damn near unstoppable and here comes this damn injury putting me out for THE REST OF THE SEASON. My first season...destroyed. DAMNIT.

The team ended up losing in the first round in the playoffs, but that's ok. I really contemplated re-loading the save, but I decided to keep it real.

I'm now around 12 games into my "second" season. I've been struggling since the injury, but I've managed to raise my plate vision to 70, batting contact from both sides to 40, and power from both sides to 30. I must say, I'm becoming pretty damn good so far.

Currently batting a bit over .250, 2 HRs, 8 SBs, and like 10 RBIs.

This is going to be an interesting RTTS.

Just created a new player, Custom short stop and did pretty good in the showcase and was drafted 3rd in the 1st round to my surprise by the White Sox.

So get this, in my fourth Double AA game I hit for a cycle!!! I have never achieved something like this with any player in all my years of baseball gaming! So right now I feel pretty good about my RTTS Shortstop.

This is not my only impression of the game but something that I saw right away. Having played just a few games in RTTS and going through the draft something bugged me.

I went mid way through the first round. I'm ok with that as a starting pitcher. What bugged me is a relief pitcher went 1st overall. Besides most pitchers not becoming relief pitchers or closers until they fail as a starter I don't like seeing a RP going 1st over all.

I know this was posted in impressions as well but thought it fit here too.

Enjoying the ps3 version so far.

My SS at the beginning of June. I feel like the new system allows some positions if built right to progress crazy fast. Defense helps OVR so much at short I should hit 80 in a couple months. I'll probably get a Sept. call up at 18.

Edit: Seems like the training is on an extreme curve that really kicks in at 60. Because you can start at 90 with max speed that's probably the best choice out of any of the tools.

Playing my first RTTS as a SP. Dominating AA level so far with a 3-1 record, sub 4 ERA and I lead the league in strikeouts.

One thing I don't like however is when my team commits an error in the field, allowing the opposing player to reach base, it's somehow categorized as "bad pitching" I did my job, I got a groundball to second which should be an easy out at first, but, which happens more often that not, one of the infielders will throw the ball into the stands, the 1B will drop it, or the outfielders will just simply let a ball pass them.

Not only do these errors happen much too often during a game, I shouldn't be getting penalized for my poor AI teammate play.

Re: MLB 14 The Show: Road to the Show Thread

Created a power and speed SS (seems popular this year) and was drafted with the fourth pick in the fifth round by the Twins. I didn't do too well in the draft showcase. I'm in early May of my first year and am hitting .346, 4 HRs, and 17 RBIs. The only problem I'm having is drawing a walk. Haven't had one yet. I'm very impatient I guess. I get to 3-1 counts a lot, but I often look for the pitcher to try to get it over the plate in that situation unless there are no strikes.

I have been the DH lately though. My fielding isn't bad at all. I only have two errors so far. But I was injured for a couple of games and have been the DH for about five or six games now. I hope they put me back at SS soon.

I'm also loving the dynamic difficulty. I didn't know about the feature until I started reading about it in these forums. I honestly didn't follow the previews of this game. I knew I would be getting it. I have since 09 when I bought a PS3 for this game alone.

I'm hoping to get a PS4 next month and MLB 14 will be bought with it.

But so far on the PS3 version, I love it. It's very similar to 13, but the animations and little things are terrific as they are every year.

Good job SCEA San Diego Team. I wouldn't expect any less from ya.

EDIT: does anyone know if you move up to the AAA or Majors if the difficulty still changes if you are using dynamic difficulty? I hope not.

Updating my progress. I was promoted to AAA last night after hitting just under .400 with 6 HRs and 28 RBI. Strangely, I was demoted to AA bench after an injured player came back, but still got a lot of PT. I kept demanding starts to try to get back to AA Starter but ended up getting promoted to AAA Starter in late May anyway.

So far after 1 week in AAA, I'm hitting around .320 with 1 HR and 4 RBI.

I've got my attributes up to 40/40 contact and 45/50 power, 80 speed, 70 fielding 70/60 arm strength/accuracy.

                  Loving it so far!

Disregard the question under edit. I was called up to the AAA due to an injury, and the dynamic difficulty remained where it was. I really like this feature.

I just started the game and had everything on beginner just to learn the game. Started road the the show and everything worked great. Changed my setting from beginner to experienced and now everything is messed up. When I go back to my character to the show he can't field anything. Everything just bounces off his glove, even fly balls. The only thing he catches cleanly are thrown balls. Also now when I am a runner the only thing that moves my runner are the L/R1 buttons not the left joystick anymore. I changed everything back to beginner but nothing changed in the road to the show. Can anyone help me?

Bold - This happened to me but in Double A (and I posted this earlier in the thread too. :P) the Double A bench 2nd baseman came back from injury and I was demoted to the bench even though he never held the starting position to begin with. Perhaps a bug?

Just changing your settings from beginner to experienced is what goofed everything up. You need to change settings under gameplay yourself to fix the issues because the default for experienced is a lot of veteran stuff (including the difficulty) IIRC.

                          CF (LF, RF)

I've always gone with the hitting machine who hits bombs, but this year I went with a CF who is like Ellsbury/Trout with a huge focus on speed.

Had an absolutely BRUTAL Draft Showcase. Had like 1 hit and could not get the ball out of the infield. Got drafted in the 7th Round by the Philadelphia Phillies and decided to sign (read that you only get 600 pts if you go back to school for 4 years, and I was fairly certain I could get 600 point in a single month in AA alone). My starting potnetial was a D with my career perception being "Major League hopeful"

Started out in AA, and was really doing well for April and most of May doing .360 avg - 5 hr - 25 rbi - 4 steals (was still working out stealing). Had 6 triples and 6 double though.

Got called up in late May and spent the rest of the year in AAA posting .286 avg - 3 hr - 36 rbi - 48 steals with 16 triples and 14 doubles. No All-Star team or playoffs.

Got a 1 year deal for 69,000 to remain in the Phillies org and once again I started season 2 in AA. However, that only lasted 11 games because I was a war machine batting .519 - 7 hr - 12 rbi - 10 steals and was called up to AAA.

However, since I've been back at AAA things have been up and down. Through 66 games I've got a .271 avg - 9 hr - 32 rbi - 26 steals. My potential is still a D but my career perception is no "Career minor leaguer" .

Already at 19 my player will have to defy the odds and break the "career minor leaguer" perception! I'll be a 40-40 guy in the majors! They'll see!

Update #2 - SS, Chad Abercrombie

Things haven't been the same since the injury last year, but I'm stronger and wiser this time around. I'm making better swings and not surviving off my speed anymore.

Last update I was batting a little over .250, but it seems like I've gotten back into my rhythm. My fielding and arm are the same, so nobody's worried about that. But since I started focusing on my batting game, there's definitely a difference.

At this moment, I'm HOT and batting .301 with 14 RBIs & 9 SBs. The team seems to have taken notice of my strength gains because they've put me in the number 3 hole.

Maybe I can prove that the injury didn't affect me at all...maybe I still have a chance.
