I didn’t think it was a contact issue because the CPU was hitting the ball hard quite often but right at my players. It seemed like the average hitters really were not able to hit doubles and now they are. For some reason, I just thought that you had User and CPU contact the same.
Hey man, how's it going? Yeah, I always had the CPU at default b/c they always needed it, even last year. I'm glad it did the trick for ya.

Just an update--I started a new Reds franchise with the classic pitching sliders. I am 0-2 with two great games played. The Cubs hit 3 homers (Lee twice, Murton once) and I hit 2 homers (Griffey and Kearns). The Cubs made 2 errors in game two (Murton dropped a flyball and Ramirez BOOTED a groundball). I made 1 error in each game (both Encanarcion BOOTED groundballs). All seems good so far.

Hey Favre, I just had an awesome game against the Red Sox using my Orioles, lost on a suicide squeeze play. It was unreal. But anyways, I see you raised the errors for the CPU on the classic pitching, does that go for the meter pitching as well?

That's awesome!! Even when you lose, as long as it a baseball loss, it's cool, right? The errors--It definitely could and probably should. I don't see the difference, right? I will edit that post to +5 for the CPU. Thanks for the heads up there.

This is ABSOLUTELY the right setting. In fact, you may well drop arm accuracy to zero as I have.

I've played 12 games with both CPU strength and accuracy at zero. It is much better. I was compelled to do this when Juan Pierre gunned 3 Braves runners at the plate in 1 game. All were trying to score from 2nd on singles. Renteria and Giles should never be thrown out at the plate from 2nd as they have above average speed. I didn't balk at Laroche being gunned though.

Then Taveras (cf for Astros) did the same to A Jones. I had enough.

You will be pleasantly surprised that even at zero the CPU will gun you if you get a bad break or if your runner is slow.

No probs at all with infield hits or stealing.

Wow arm strength at ZERO.. That seems way too extreme.. I had to increase arm strength from 4 to 6 and even thinking about moving it up a little more.. I was seeing way too many infield hits.. How can you make a diving play at SS and still throw out a average runner at 1st with arm strength at 0?

Zero is the setting for the CPU. My settings are at 5.

Even at Zero I think the CPU arm strength is a tad bit too good.

                      This is my reasoning:

IF singles will happen occassionally when a ball is hit deep in the hole and the shortstop double pumps, and a runner will also be occassionally thrown out when he shouldn't have been. It's an animation thing and a give and take thing (it does boil down to personal preference). I feel throwing strength at 0 evens out the the infielders animations while allowing runners to go 1st to 3rd/2nd to home as much as possible. What do I mean by evening out the animations? Some animations occur too quickly (like the 2B going up the middle, quickly throwing, and throwing the runner out a first too easy because he get too much on the ball) and too slowly (like the previously mentioned SS double pump). With throwing strength at 0, it evens out the infield game. If you set the throwing strength to where runners will get thrown out when the animation is too slow, then runners have no chance at beating out the times when infielders perform the quicker animations. It just allows the fast runners (like Pierre) to beat out grounders at a more realistic pace. Also, double plays will occur more realistically.

I use it at times. It helps me be patient. On HOF, it really doesn't guarantee a homer or anything. More often than not, I end up popping out or hitting a soft liner. Some people like it and some hate it. I am one of those that's kinda in the middle on it.

They both are very realistic. I was getting great numbers with meter, but I just became infatuated with classic after reading about it on the boards. It has that old high heat feel where you have a little less control. I kinda feel that the classic is a little more dependent on ratings which I like. Both play a very realistic game. Classic just has that little less preciseness for me right now. I may go back to the meter later, but right now I am enjoying classic.

I hope I answered your question somewhere in that rant.
