Hey bobhead, always appreciate your input.

No, i didnt just do this on a hunch, never do...stats thru 30 games, doubles given up 39.

MLB average is 1.6 per game per team so nearer 50 would have been about right, not far out but enough to warrant the change and the sample size is large enough.

As for hitting, im now back to Timing, with the increased Solid Hits from a previous change it works well.
youve abandoned zone hitting for timing?

              Yes.

I dont move the PCI with Zone and it simply wasnt working over the longer term.

Tests with Timing with increased SH and Timing have been very good.

                TNK - RED SOX FRANCHISE

                Game #15 of The Season

Jarrod Saltalamacchia paced the Red Sox offense, driving in all 4 runs in a 4-2 Red Sox victory as Boston has taken the first 3 games of the series and looks for the 4 game sweep tomorrow. Saltalamacchia hit an RBI single in the 2nd inning and then hit a 3-run HR over the green monster in the 4th inning to put Boston ahead by a 4-0 score. The Blue Jays were able to put together a rally against Dice-K in the 7th inning and knock him from the game with the score at 4-2. Alfredo Aceves and Jonathan Papelbon were excellent out of the pen and nailed down the victory.

That's the whole point of ZONE - you have to aim your swing. Zone without moving the stick is essentially TIMING. The reason they call it ZONE is because you are supposed to swing and aim for the "zone" that you are swinging in.

Guys - it's 2011 - none of us should be playing where we just have to tap X and expect to be rewarded for "good hitting". This isn't RBI Baseball 94 on the Sega Genesis. There is 0 skill level involved in TIMING, as one of the slider guys and someone who has been playing this game for years - I can't bring myself to even consider using Timing..........just my opinion

Just the way you feel about how using Zone is a no-brainer, so do many others believe using the method that stays truest to realism while minimizing player influence/skill is a no-brainer, which is what I think a good amount of people are trying to do. Just saying. . .I'm not sure if you mean to sound like you totally don't understand why people would use timing, so I just wanted to point this out (this is at least my understanding of it, and why I use timing).

Absolutely, Infinite is right, we all have preferred methods of playing the game, neither is "better" than the other, just personal preference.

                        Now, back to sliders...

I understand what your saying, and I agree however, if I use Zone hitting, Im always late with my swings, leading to either strike outs, or all opposite field hits, and that stinks. Maybe im moving the PCI too late, but it simply is not working for me at all.

TNK maybe you can start a new thread coaching "how to use zone the proper way"? I'm not being sarcastic, I think people who want to use zone would appreciate that. Could have training drills for people practice with.

Guys - That wasn't meant to sound like "my way is better".....I can see how it would read that way. I'm sorry if it came off that way at all.

MY opinion is that Timing is like playing on Rookie Difficulty.

Zone Hitting advice - what helped me was to step away from game situations and spend some quality time doing batting practice using Zone Hitting. By doing BP - you are not feeling any pressure or worrying about in game situations, just focus on pitch recognition and perfecting your swing using the ZONE interface.

There is really no better tip I can give other than - DO BATTING PRACTICE - Identify the location of the pitch and swing while aiming towards the zone where the pitch is.

Just like in real life - if you are a hitter, get in the cage and take some BP and focus on your hitting. This also allows you to see hundreds of pitches consecutively and perfect the mechanics of Zone Hitting. If you are trying to adjust to ZONE while playing your season and dealing with situations and worrying about stats - it's probably not going to go well for you.

I tried ANALOG, I tried TIMING ONLY and I tried ZONE - I firmly believe that if you devote some serious time to BP and focusing on Zone Hitting - it is the best way to hit in this game.

ALSO - Try using Catcher Cam 3 for your hitting camera. I also pitch from Catcher Cam 3

Thnkmn, to start with, thank you very much for your time and effort, along with psycho bulk. Now maybe I can explain better on what my issue is with zone hitting. I assume that the PCI has to be moved before pressing the X button, which is what I do. However, when I check my swing after the pitch, a lot of times the PCI hasn't moved. And if I am successful in moving my PCI, my swing is late 90% of the time, causing me to strike out or hit constantly to the opposite field. And just so you know, I have spent hours in BP, and can't seem to break out of this pattern with Zone hitting.
