I was thinking the same thing. Errors don't seem to be occurring at a realistic rate, at least for the Cubbies.

Human K's (batting) are right on the money. Although it seems the other teams CPU simulated may be a little low.

    Agreed.

You're on pace for 416 BB allowed. Last years cubs gave up 605, while the Phillies surrendered 416. I'd assume the majority of those are also from the simmed games. Curious, how many hits have you allowed in played games? What are your average total pitch counts? Also, whats a typical K:BB ration, and how many CPU fouls per game? HUM pitching always seems to be the toughest (and most frustrating) to dial in.

I can't get the exact number of hits from my played games right now. I believe the lowest amount of hits I've allowed is 4 or so, max of 11 or 12. Seems to vary pretty well.

I try and paint the corners and have been working on not giving in on hitters counts to allow for a more realistic walks/game number. I'd say lately it's been something that has been working. My last start with Dempster I had 4 BB's and 6 K's. The game I was just playing, I had 4 BB's with Cashner through the first 4 innings.

Typical K:BB ratio would probably be 3:1. If I had to guess.

Hard to say with the foul balls per game, I'd say 10-15.

Typical pitch count varies depending on the starter. I usually let my top three starters get near the 100 pitch mark. I have Zambrano on a shorter leash than Garza/Dempster. Wells I usually let get between the 80-90 pitch mark, and he usually never lasts past the 6th for me unless he's getting a lot of quick outs. Cashner is tough for me. Because he is a strikeout pitcher his pitch count rises pretty quickly. His energy is not that high so he's usually pretty tired around the 75 pitch count, which usually means I'm pushing him pretty hard through the latter part of the 5th/6th innings.

What's you OBP, and how many pitches are opposing pitchers averaging against you.

I can't pinpoint my exact OBP, but I usually see at least 1 BB/game. Admittedly, my patience leaves a lot to be desired, so I'm usually pretty happy if I see 3 or 4 BB's in the course of a game. I do a pretty decent job working counts, I just usually give in on a ball 4 way too often.

Depends on the pitcher really. Sometimes the opposing SP is peppering the strike zone so they are getting through innings pretty quickly, other times they are picking their spots and racking up 20 pitches in an inning. I'd say the average amount of pitches I see in an inning is somewhere around 12.

Your extra base hits seem low (assuming many of the triples came with simmed games) Have you considered lowering Fielder speed, but raising Reaction (to cut down on infield singles)?

Actually, I believe I've hit every single triple. I would love to see more seeing eye singles. That was my attempt by lowering the solid hits slider, but there are still too many instances of defenders getting to balls they probably shouldn't get to IRL. I'd like to see more bloop hits/IF singles/etc. Maybe making your suggested changes would help the hit variety.

And yes, I haven't gotten that many extra base hits. It seems like every time I drive the ball it is directly at a fielder or they take a good route at the ball and cut it off, holding me to a single.

What's the CPU's typical K:BB ration in games played?

Typical K:BB for the CPU is probably 4:1 or maybe even 5:1. But I think that is more my fault than the sliders. I need to be more patient in 3 ball counts and actually take my walk rather than trying to hit anything around the plate.
Hope that helps, sorry I couldn't get you the exact numbers from my played games.

      Skow,

You can view the pitches, fouls, etc at the end of the game - I usually take quick notes when dialing in my set. Keep an eye on it, and let us know! Those stats are very helpful in determining the intangibles (what the USER isn't effecting)

      Cheers!

Oh awesome, I wasn't aware of that. I'll include those numbers on my future box scores!

          CHD,

You are in the right thread, if stats are what you want.

Jgainsey and I, individually, have been tracking nearly all of our games. I, personally, have a notebook full.

The only stats I'm missing, per request to Skow, are overall OBP and pitch counts (as I track BB, fouls, and misses for these purposes).

I can tell you for certain that CPU fouls per game are just under 30 in an abundance of games, User batting walks are over 3 and CPU batting BB are just under 4 (but I tend to pitch around hitters sometimes).

Without my notebook with me, the last I had tallied CPU misses, they were at 12 per game, and we're both chasing in the neighborhood 13-15 pitches per 9 (which I figure is just over 20% of balls...which is odd, because my user K's are slightly high, probably high 7's, due to a slightly inflated miss percentage on my end...the CPU misses as I said are perfect).

Fielding errors are low all around, so this slider needs to be at 9, minimum. Currently I have throw errors at 6, but fielding percentages look good. A lot of this has to do with the "official scorer," and not so much lack of sloppiness. On the other hand, some hits have been ruled the other way.

I have exact totals that I'll share with you soon. Let me tell you, it's all incredibly close...really closer than any installment I've played in this series.

Some of the stats will reflect some earlier slider combinations, but for all intents and purposes, Jgainsey and I have been using some version of page one all along...simply refining along the way.

Seriously, especially in the CPU miss/foul/chase ratio, even out of the box, SCEA nailed it this year. Read the CPU threads if you want unbiased confirmation of such. Nomo (user) will verify this. You just need to manipulate your own personal control (wildness, etc) via sliders in order to "imitate" the CPU, so to speak.

I'm still working on a few things before dropping a V1 set. This thread has been very helpful.

It's weird that no one is really playing with Fielder Reaction and Speed this year, guess I'm the only one that utilizes those to cut down on infield singles?

i've seen alot of slider sets this year with lowered fielder reaction, speed, etc.... personally, i think fielder settings play perfectly at default this year.

That's just it, I feel Fielder Reaction should be increased, not lowered.

Weird, I've done it every year since 08' in my slider set! Was at 7 last year, 10 in 09', (can't recall 2008).

                      Cheers!

I've considered raising reaction, to cut down on singles, but I really haven't had any reason to warrant it. Hits are good all around.

I find it strange too. As my instinct has always been that this game has been generous on BABIP, but it's close enough for me now.

The slider's not going anywhere though. I could change it later if need be.

I have run speed at 4.

At the top of the create a table page, you'll see a series of nonsensical computer code. Just copy that code, and paste it here, rather than copying the literal table. Does this make sense?

I think the main reason many people lower fielder reaction is because of the pitcher and catcher, although I still think even the infielders have too good of a reaction time at default. Anyway CHD do you get a lot of hits up the middle that the pitcher randomly stops/catches?

I've greatly cut down on solid hits up the middle (that real major leaguers could field) - turning these into outs or errors. I watch a lot of baseball, and you'll commonly see a SS or 2B field a decently hit ball very close to if not behind the second base bag...at default, there's no way this would ever happen. In fact, I just played 3 more games, and the following fielding sliders are playing pretty perfect for me.

                              Throwing Errors 9

I've been watching replays of when fielders 'break' on the ball after contact, and haven't seen anyone move before it gets to at least the pitchers mound. (both high reaction fielders and lower defensive players). I think certain animations (the 1B or 3B stab) are going to happen with certain players regardless of the reaction slider. (I tested this last year by lowering it all the way.)

As an added bonus, I'm seeing increased fielding errors do to players getting to the ball 'late', and miss playing it (the animation where the reach out while running - in both the infield and outfield) or throwing it away from a bad throwing position.

BTW, MLBTV for the PS3 is just awesome. It's in HD, and the interface is amazing.

I'll probably drop my full set after 10 or so more games played.

Second game of my series with the Dodgers. Cashner was a beast. Took a 1 hitter into the 7th inning where he finally caved in, allowing a 2 out single by Matt Kemp followed by a 2 rbi blast by Casey Blake.

The bullpen came in and shut the door. Marmol continued his 0 runs allowed streak to start the season, an impressive feat as the calender nears the turn of the 1st month.

The Cubs offense showed plate discipline, drawing 4 BB's, and some timely hitting. The only extra base hits of the game came from a 1 RBI double in the 3rd inning by Aramis Ramirez and a leadoff double by Starlin Castro in the 8th.
