Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion
But my 2 well pitched games were gems. So...
I think I have my slider set down for now. Everything feels right.
Trust me. Control and Consistency 5/6 will yield plenty of walks. Plenty.Comment

Well, I just got beat down badly. Two games in a row. Not to mention, 3 out of my last 5 on AS with these sliders.

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion
Im using Psycho/TKNG slider set, no modifications. After 12 games im 6-6, my team ERA is 4.57. Im using the WhiteSox and I have a few guys with really low confidence, needless to say they get shelled. Mark Buerhle gave up 12 hits, 7 ER, and walked 3 in 5 1/3 in my last game. His confidence is totally shot.
I think im trying to paint corners too much. When I miss, everything is middle in and gets crushed.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion
Remember, I'm treating this as my virtual "simulation" settings...with as little user input as possible. Almost like playing a CPU vs. CPU game.
That said, there's NO way I'm throwing that catcher suggested, zero confidence, 2-0 changeup. Or number 4 or 5 pitch in the pitcher's arsenal for that matter when I'm behind. The API suggestions are pretty good, but sometimes they're flat out stupid.
It's weird. Sometimes I'll stray away from the API all together if I feel him and I aren't meshing. But sometimes, Russell Martin just calls a flat out great ball game.
I hope that makes sense. LOL! I'd say 65-35 in favor of the API.Comment

We feature the same control and consistency. Otherwise, our fielder run speed is different (them 2 I think, me 4). Our power is different (them 5, me 4). Our CPU solid hits are different (them 2, me 5). But yeah, I wouldn't be suprised if we end up having very similar results.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion
ohhh yea but thats what i like and if i loose patience against certain hitters bye bye really makes the importance of the bullpen more pronounced than with meter i think. so HV you think 5/5/3 is the equivalent of our pitching sliders at 5/6 there pretty close i would say you think?
Human Contact 5
Human Power 4
Human Timing 5
Human Fouls 5
Human Solid Hits 5
CPU Control 5
CPU Consistency 5
Strike Frequency 3
Keep in mind, I am NOT hitting right now (not literally, ofcourse. I'm just getting completely dominated lately). I'm chalking it up to some good pitching at the moment. But man, I could really use an offensive explosion!
This to me is pretty perfect. I've had a couple games where I've walked 7 times, and a couple games where I haven't walked at all.
These MAY work on AS, but I have no way of knowing for sure.
It seems that, for me (when I actually hit well), HOF hitting and AS pitching play a pretty balanced game.
For the sake of confusion, I may post my sliders on page one tomorrow. Just so everyone knows where I'm coming from with my opinions.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 04-14-2011, 02:26 PM.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion
I've been using Classic pitching on All-Star with default sliders. The only exceptions are pitch speed (0) and pitch consistency (10) for both me and the cpu.
I'm struggling right now, but my pitching is getting better.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion
H&V are you still using Classic pitching? I've been toying with the idea of going back to Classic, because even with the patch, I feel like I can be too precise with Analog controls and I really, really have to force myself to walk batters by throwing far outside the strike zone.
Are the sliders you posted on pages 2 and 3 your most current for hitting and pitching?
I've got a 30-team Franchise going where I just play random games, but I'm getting ready to start up a Colorado Rockies single-team Franchise and would like to get my settings in order before starting that up.Currently Playing:

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion
Here's my sliders, HOF Timing Only, AS Classic Pitching, Auto Field, Manual Button Throwing
Human Contact 5
Human Power 4
Human Timing 5
Human Fouls 5
Human Solid Hits 5
Human Control 5
Human Consistency 6
CPU Contact 5
CPU Power 4
CPU Timing 5
CPU Fouls 5
CPU Solid Hits
CPU Control 5
CPU Consistency 4
Strike Frequency 3
Global Fielding Errors 10
Global Throwing Errors 7
Global Fielder Run Speed 4
Global Fielder Arm Strength 4
Global Stolen Base Frequency 8
Global Wind 5
Everything else is Default.
I could foresee dropping run speed another click, and compensating with raising reaction...the CPU and myself are at around 1.6-1.7 doubles per...but my brother is using these sliders and his numbers are perfect...so I'm in no rush.
HR's are slightly high for me, but perfect for him too.
BB are a touch high on both sides (4.2 me, 4.4 CPU)...but batting averages are dead on. I mean, dead on. If the BB bother you (which they don't me, because it's actually a very realistic number for NYY), raise CPU consistency back to Default...and worst case, raise it for you as well.
I'm loving this currently. So again, I'm not making any changes at the moment. Just thinking out loud.Last edited by Heroesandvillains; 05-05-2011, 12:09 PM.Comment

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion
I am a Classic Pitching holdover. I love it.
I use Marino's sliders on the first page. His initial set pre patch. They still are working fantastic for me in my Yankees Chise.
I use pitchers view broadcast camera.
I get a great balance. My aces (CC and so far this year AJ) are pitching about as close to real life YTD. Phil Huges is hot and cold, Garcia has been roughed up 3 times and Colon has been a nice surprise for me. I have Nova as my long relief.
I do almost max out my high confidence pitches when I want to get the punch out. And I paint the corners with those. I also try not to get too cute with my low confidence pitches. Mixing it up is the biggest key's to classic pitching. And of course knowing your hot and cold zones and also shaking off your catcher sometimes. I feel they call too many 4SFB.Now Playing on PS5:

Re: Classic Pitching Questions and Discussion
Like I said, other than the recent HR rise, I'm loving what I'm using.
I know some may say, "lower contact.." etc, etc, but batting averages are great...as well as K/9... so I'd have to say...IF I change anything, it'll be user/CPU power to 3.
But everything is SO amazing, that I don't intend on doing it right away. My last HR drought was relatively long lived...as well as the CPU's. We've just caught up in a fury (thanks to the Roger's Center...LOL!) Who's to say the next drought won't be longer? I just figured it would only be fair to let you in to my thought process if I was going to share.
Remember, try not to nibble TOO much when you don't have to. Your pitch counts will soar. I'm sure you'll see what I mean when you give em a whirl.Comment
