Re: TNK - 2012 Realism Sliders Thread

EDIT: I just now realized my CPU strike frequency was at 4 instead of 3 so disregard the strike%

Even though i'm losing, i'm still have fun and that's a good sign! The sliders played well even in the rain. I had hits, just couldn't bring runners in from scoring position. 2 for 8 with RISP. Burnett lost control early, he didn't have good stuff. Wasnt hitting spots. Gave up a few big hits and I couldn't get on the board until late in the game and at that point it was a lost cause. Still had a good time though.

    Will continue testing.

FYI to who asked about pulse pitching, I have only used Pulse Pitching since getting this game and have posted my results all over this thread.

I have played close to 10 games with the 4,3,3 CPU pitcher tweaks and consistently get a 62-65% strike percentage from the CPU, thus far that feels perfect for me honestly

i could definitely use some help with these sliders..at least on the offensive side of things

in the 2 games ive played with them:

        Game 1: Phillies(me) - 0.. Braves - 3
i had 1 hit all game.. they had 7
        everything else was good..

        Game 2: Phillies(me) - 0... D'backs - 1
once again.. i had 1 hit.. they had 4
also, i struck out 16 times in this game.. yea idk lol

the games play GREAT, dont get me wrong and i love the slider set.. i just need help with a tweak or 2 to help me hit the ball better.. thank you in advance

I continue to play with the 1st version of sliders because i haven't noticed a high percentage of strikes. And i have some good results. I draw some balls with regularity. This game is a high 7. I'm very patient. And i left 11 players on bases.
But i have some difficulties to hit homeruns (1 in 8 games). Maybe it's just the Astros. But i left 11 players on bases in this game.
Maybe my pitchers throw a bit too much strikes. 72% is high but it's more close of mid 60 for previous games.

If you're striking out that many times in a game, you're not taking enough pitches and not seeing the ball well out of the pitchers hand. try dropping the pitch speed down to 3 for now. try that for a couple games and see if you're able to pick the ball up better. It seems to me like you're just getting jumpy when you see the ball; the pitch speed should definitely help with that.

The slider change that we made was to reduce the amount of first pitch strikes. every pitcher will throw balls but from the default setting the pitchers were throwing so many first pitch strikes it was unrealistic. But if you're getting 72% i'd say drop the cpu strike freq down 1 and let the strikes drop to around 68-70%.

I am also having the same problem as you though. I can't seem to get runners home! so frustrating but I have to tough it out. It's not a slider issue now, it's a me issue!

It's not a slider tweak.....what you need to do is be more selective. There is no way you are striking out 16 times without chasing bad pitches.

              You need to hit better

thanks jared and royale for the input. i guess the strike percentages you guys mentioned are realistic. i just wanna see more walks from me and the cpu though, but of course i know i am not that patient on offense and i dont work the corners all thaw well. but either way, thanks again fellas.

Played two games with the sliders this weekend and will say that they already play realy well. i am having the same issue as other with hitting but agree its my lack of patience hitting. Also i used pulse pitching for one game and meter for the other and both seemed to play the same regardless. Good work so far guys

Re: TNK - 2012 Realism Sliders Thread

Up late playing a couple with the new CPU pitching sliders. Went into a terrible hitting slump and suddenly could not see the ball well. I thought a lot about this and realized that a ton of the time the CPU was really nailing the edges. It almost seemed that the pitcher was hitting their spot more frequently and when this starts happening, I hack more.

I am still using solid hits at two. I don't want to abandon this yet because the variety of hits seems much more varied.

But if you're getting 72% i'd say drop the cpu strike freq down 1 and let the strikes drop to around 68-70%.

I am also having the same problem as you though. I can't seem to get runners home! so frustrating but I have to tough it out. It's not a slider issue now, it's a me issue!
I played Houston with pulse pitching and 72% strikes. CPU strike freq is fine for me (58%). I don't see too many 1st pitch strikes.
Need some tests to be sure.

                        CPU PITCHER CONSISTENCY - 4
                        CPU STRIKE FREQUENCY - 3
Interesting change, while I've only played 2 games so far, which is hardly a good judge I thought it was pretty much perfect, I was able to easily draw walks by being patient and not swinging at every pitch, In my first game at Detroit, (btw love that admiral motors signage in center field) I was able to draw a walk with David Ortiz off Verlander on 4 straight pitches out of the zone.

Was an awesome game, it went scoreless to the 6th inning until I hit a screamer to the gap between second and third with Ellsbery that the 3rd baseman over threw getting Jacoby to first on an error. Youk then hits a blast double off the wall to center field. 1 run scores, Ortiz then hits a two run blast 399 feet to center on a slider that I timed perfectly.

I of course gave up 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th and the game remained 3-2 til the bottom of the 9th where I left the reliver in too long giving up the tying run with 2 outs.

On to the 10th I get nothing done but bring Bailey in anyway to try and shut them down, none the less I gave up a walk off 2 run homer in the bottom of the 10th to end it, Tigers win 5-3. I lost but the game played so well, the ball physics this year are the best I've ever seen in a baseball game, in fact in that game a hard hit grounder bounced in front of Verlander, and drilled him in the arm, he shook it off and pitched a solid 6 innings, Beckett pitched 6 and 2/3rds and took the loss. Also the presentation lifts are a great touch. the cuts to the bench and TV style break downs of pitching sequences etc all very nice touches. The game seems to run much much smoother than in years past as well.

I will try your changes TKN, you always put out awesome Show sliders, granted it doesn't seem like we need to do alot of changes out of the box this year as the game plays really great.

This may be the first year I play more baseball than hockey unless NHL13 is mind blowing.
I'll post more impressions with box scores when I have the time to, at work currently counting the hours til I can play a couple more games of The Show!

Re: TNK - 2012 Realism Sliders Thread

Just finished playing the most exciting and nerve-racking game of any MLB, well sports game for that matter. This is why baseball is the best sport and America's past time. And before I go on and explain the events that transpired, I'll just go out and say these sliders are for the most part, done. A few tweaks and we'll be there. I've already had a variety of different games. Offensive explosions, pitchers duals, lop sided victories and landslide collapses. Anyways, here we go.

A perfect night for baseball in Miami, Florida. Under the lights in front of an even 37,000 fans at the brand new Marlins Park. Atlanta was in town and nobody could have guessed what happened next. Josh Johnson was on the hill and struggled in his 5.0 innings. He walked 5 batters and struck out 6. Giving up 2 runs on 4 hits early. His competitive nature compelled him to keep it together because Hanson threw exquisitely on the opposite side. After giving up 2 runs in the top half of the 3rd, Reyes had a huge triple and got driven in by Bonifacio.

The pitchers dueled. The Marlins went down swinging to Hanson 10 times but worked him to death getting his pitch count to 100 in the 6th inning. Stanton homered to tie it up in the bottom of the 6th. Stanton left after that inning being replaced by Medlen who was on fire. Striking out 5 of 6 batters that he faced. The Marlins bullpen had a large task ahead of them after a short outing by Johnson. With Ozzie managing, bringing in guys in key situations, the relief got out of a few tight situations late in the game to get it into extras.

Cishek came into the game in the 10th to walk the lead off man, Heyward who was sacrificed to second by SS Jack Wilson. Ross grounded out, moving Heyward to 3rd with 2 outs when Michael Bourn had the second biggest hit of the night. Cishek then loaded the bases and got out of the jam by forcing Uggla to ground out.

The stage was set. 37,000 fans were on their feet. Kimbrel stepped onto the mound with intentions of spoiling the Marlins evening. A 4 pitch walk to Infante followed by Rowand pinch-hitting for Dunn. Rowand walked after battling in a 3-2 count. The lineup turned over and with 2 men on and no outs, Jose Reyes had a chance to tie the game with a base hit. After a good battle, he turned over on a low inside fastball, dribbling it the line; advancing both runners. There was one out and two men in scoring position. Emelio Bonifacio stepped up to the dish next. Kimbrel threw two great pitches to get the count to 0-2. Bonifacio battled back, taking a close pitch and fouling off another. Kimbrel looked in to get the sign...Paused...and zipped a two seamer up and in. Bonifacio turned on it and everyone froze instantly watching the ball. Bonifacio was the only one that had complete confidence in the ball when it hit the foul pole for the walk-off three run home run in the bottom of the 10th for the win in dramatic fashion to say the least!
