    Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

anyone experiencing a power outage since the last patch? I've scored 2 runs or less in every game since the patch (about 4 games), but not sure if I'm just going through a slump coincidentally or if anyone else is feeling the same. Been either popping up or fouling off a ton of hittable pitches. Getting into good counts and not being able to crush the pitch i get makes me want to break the controller over my knee Bo Jackson style. There are some discussions on the main board but they seem to be more focused on online play. this is my go to thread for reasonable discussion on AS directional hitting.

      None at all.

Don't but into that talk. I have not seen anything wrong with Directional Hitting post 1.07 or post any patch this cycle. Variety has been the best in the history of this series. There are some quirks with the game which we have discussed a ton already (too many wild pitches and catchers making all casual throws on wild pitch take off's) other than that...the game is incredible. Sliders are not going to fix what i will now deem as MLBTS17 warts. Every year each version of sports games have warts and each year I learn to live with them.

I am rocking this game till MLBTS18 release day. No doubt about it.

I have to second this. If anything, I am hitting better than ever since the latest slider adjustment (probably matchup-related more than anything...). Over the long weekend, I had a 5 HR game (with a loaded team), a couple of no HR games, and then the majority with maybe 1 or 2.

I will say one thing....if you try to hit bombs in the upper part of the zone, you're going to pop-up a lot. You have to be patient, take your pitches, and wait for that one pitch in the AB where it is in a hittable location.
Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.

bit confused, wouldn't a pitch up in the zone be a prime candidate to be hit out?

I have to second what Armor and Josh said. I haven't had any issues with power or batting averages since the patch. In fact my team is hitting better in the month of June then they did in May or April so I'd bet your team is just going through a slump and it's completely coincidental that it started happening at the same time that the patch released.

Sorry guys, this has nothing to do with sliders but I need some therapy! Started a game late last night even though I was pretty tired. I thought I would get a few innings in before bed. After 2 innings it was clear I couldn't focus as 5 of my 6 hitters struck out swinging at very bad pitches. I was frustrated so I exited the game and then did not save the game. Now I'm feeling guilty that I cheated and feel I need to start my franchise over as I've only played 4 games in my season. Do any of you guys go this - quit a game and continue on with your season as if nothing happened? I need therapy!

No issues for me. Through 8 games in my Phillies Franchise I have seen plenty of power. Hell, in my last game which was an 8-6 loss to the Mets, I had 13 hits and 10 of them went for extra bases. 7 doubles, 1 triple and 2 home runs.

It's all about patience at the plate. I have also walked about 30 times through the first 8 games as well.

good to hear, think its more of a slump that coincidental to the patch. The frustrating part is that I am getting my walks, 3-5 a game. Just not getting solid contact on what is being put in play. pitches that should be being put into play hard aren't. Its not just pitches on the black either, which are obviously harder to hit solidly. glad to know the power is there, just have to get some of it for myself. back at it tonight!

I am going through a slump right now. It is so hard not to lower the difficulty level or bump up a slider to compensate but I know I need to change myself and not the sliders. I am playing as the Giants and I had a 3 game series with the Padres. I won the first game with 4 runs and 8 hits, 2nd game I won with 2 runs on 4 hits and the 3rd game I'm tied 2-2 on 3 hits in the 8th inning before I I had to save the game to go to work. I know I will get myself out of it.

Forgot to mention I am 2-6 so far through 8 games. I'm getting my hits and scoring runs but the last few games have been a struggle to get ahead in the game. I lost 2 of 3 to the Reds, was swept by the Nationals and have split the first 2 games of a 3 game series with the Mets.

One thing I am very glad about is I am not striking out a ton. Being patient and putting the ball in play. Faced Scherzer a few games ago and it was ground ball after ground ball. Citizens Bank Park had plenty of bait for fishing on the ground that game.

First of all, I would avoid the front page threads because half of them are garbage, with what people are writing. I literally only post in here.

Second, I am going to third what Armor and JoshC have just said. Hitting is great, the variety is there. I'm sure you've read it before, but I'll say it again. It is a 162 game season. The best hitters in baseball will pop up high fastballs and even high change ups. It happens. The BEST of them are only successful 3/10 times. IF EVERY TIME the CPU threw you a high fastball and you ripped it, the game would get super boring, super fast. It wouldn't be competitive. Having that happen to you in, let's say 10 games in a row, is still not enough for an average. Yes, when you play it can be super frustrating. When I play this damn game, it takes an hour and 15 minutes every time for the most part, but I love it. If I have a team wide slump, it feels exaggerated because I'm the one playing the game. But then I go back to my box scores and realize things like wow, 4 games ago I had 8 runs and 10 hits. Stick with it. Have fun.

He means UP in the top quarter of the zone. It's not often you see chest high pitches being hit out. They are usually fly balls.

"Up in the zone" really means anything above a hitters crotch. So "down the middle" is probably a better way to describe it when referring to the actual strike zone.

                              Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

Well after sarcastically boasting about my 2 game winning streak I ended up watching my team come back to earth in a 3-1 loss to Houston in which I saw Robinson Cano go down again with another injury lol. Thankfully it's only for 1-6 days but good Lord my team can't catch a break. Nelson Cruz did come back last game but all he was good for was a inning ending double play and nothing else so he didn't have much of an impact. The worst part is my only run scored was off a Cano solo HR so to watch him get injured later in the same game really hurt. Now I'm stuck with Brett Lawrie at 2B again and he is no Robinson Cano that's for sure.

It's been very interesting, my stats aren't all over the place, my offense is actually hitting better in June then they did in May but the CPU, while hitting 30 points higher as well, is only scoring 0.09 more runs per game in June then they did in May. I can't quite figure out why I'm only 9-13 in June, my best guess is my teams inability to drive in runs with runners on base as I seem to leave 10+ every game so if I could get that fixed I might have a shot at turning things around.

Anyone else, whether it be this year or a previous year on the game, just have a player that can't stay healthy? If so, what did you do? I'm starting to consider trying to dump Cano off on anyone willing to take him and I don't even care what I get for him at this point. His contract is an albatross so I don't expect to get **** back really just to have his contract off the books and not have to deal with the constant worry of another looming injury is damn near worth it in itself. I mean I can lose just fine without him on the team lol so might as well save money in the process if I'm not gonna be able to win with him because he's fragile as hell.

Like clockwork, 10 hits, 8 runs and 3 homers. Thanks to all my hitting coaches who talked me off the ledge today. I swear sometimes some encouragement is all you need to get it going again.
