Yo, can I play these sliders on zone hitting? Is there a difference in result?

    Thanks!

I use the left stick all the time. It does wonders for my offense and hit variety.

          Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

I've bumped up to hall of fame on the sliders from the OP but I'm still not getting enough of a challenge from the CPU if they aren't hitting runs. I bumped up contact and in 2 games the CPU had 18 hits both games. I have control/consistency at the lowest point that I would like.

I have kept contact at 5 while bumping CPU timing and solid hits up 1. Think that will do it for me or is there another slider/combo that should be used?

          Thanks!

I don't touch the left stick and I still get great results. In fact, just yesterday I hit a pitch up and in for a HR with Mark Trumbo and one way at the top of the zone with Manny Machado. It's what I've always done and it works well enough for me. Recently I even played a game with the Padres just to see if my success was just due to my talented players, but I was squaring some balls up pretty good with them as well, which made me a lot more comfortable with my approach.

I do switch up the swing types, though. With guys who hit the ball hard consistently, I use the power swing on 0-0, 1-0, 2-0, 3-0, and 3-1 counts. For my Orioles, that's most of the lineup, so guys like Davis, Jones, Machado, Trumbo, Schoop, etc. Then for other guys (for me like Hardy, Kim, Rickard) I use the normal swing in all counts, and contact swing with any 2-strike counts. The only other twist is that if I have guys who make hard contact, but who are also good OBP guys (Seth Smith) I use a combination of the two, so I'll use power swing in those counts, and contact swing in all 2-strike counts.

The key to that is knowing your hitters really well. Fangraphs also has a good layout of what percentage of balls each hitter hits is Soft/Medium/Hard contact. I've found that my guys I use the power swing with typically have a 30%+ Hard contact percentage.

              Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation

Had probably the most satisfying game I've had since the game released last night. I opened the series at Anaheim (I really hate calling them the LA Angels) who were currently in first place and after struggling in the series with Houston and the sheer fact that these same Angels swept me back in early June I figured I was in trouble. To make matters worse Andrew Heaney was on the hill and last time I faced him he gave up 1 run over 7 IP and basically murdered my lineup, granted at the time I didn't have Nelson Cruz, Cano or Zunino but Cano and Zunino don't hit LHP very well anyways. I had King Felix on the mound and he's been cold for a month now so I wasn't all that optimistic.

I found myself down early 1-0 after giving up a HR in the 2nd to Luis Valbuena. Then in the 4th Mike Trout lined a double off the LF wall followed by a passed ball that was then compounded by Ruiz throwing errant down to third allowing Trout to then score making it 2-0. In the 5th I was able to get double from Alex Liddi with 2 outs followed by a single from Danny Valencia to score the run and make it 2-1. Unfortunately in the 6th the Angels would add another run to make it 3-1 and things were looking bleak. Then it happened, in the 7th Nelson Cruz came up and Heaney, who had been extremely effective with his changeup, left one out over the plate and Cruz deposited it into the LF stands to make it 3-2. Two batters later Alex Liddi took a hanging slider and did the same thing to tie it up. I then added a run in the 8th after Leonys Martin got a single, stole second and was then driven in on a single. Evan Scribner came in for the 8th and Edwin Diaz closed it out stranding runners on 1st and 2nd for the series opening 4-3 win.

It was one of those edge of your seat, nerve racking games where you're almost paranoid to throw a pitch for fear it'll get hit and the lead will evaporate. It also felt great to actually beat those Angels finally after getting swept less then a month prior.

Question for you Armor, how are the CPU's batting averages looking on HOF pitching? They have sky rocketed on me since moving to HOF consistently hitting around .300 every game, I believe their batting average for the month was .292 which is WELL above where it should be. I can believe Houston hitting around on my rotation as they have a bunch of high contact hitters but the Angels don't so was curious what your results were on that front.

Yeah the CPU's batting average, like a few other stats, is something I just can't and don't pay attention to. On All Star their batting average was barely .200 against me. On HOF, their batting average is definitely higher than "average," but at the end of the day, that is the only way to keep them competitive. You can decrease any of the CPU hitting sliders or increase HUM pitching sliders, but it will start to nerf their actual run production, imo. I'm just speaking for myself and nobody else. I'm done with the sliders. If Armor/Marino make any tweaks from here, I'll probably leave them at what I have now which is identical to OP, except the fielder reaction/speed I have at both 3 and left the CPU strike frequency down at 3. I've probably played 80 games, but I've restarted my franchise like 7 times, which is what I always do until the last patch is out and slider tweaking is done. I think the game plays amazing now. I'm sitting at 3-3 to start the year and when I look back at the box scores, man it's almost TOO close to reality lol. Every single game is different and the flow is amazing. I've already been blown out, blown somebody else out, had pitching duels, and then had just normal average scores. All this and I'm only 6 games deep in this franchise. It's fantastic.

                  Enjoy them everyone.

And BTW that thread about ball physics changing back to last year post patches.....is the biggest bunch of Horse**** I have read yet in what has become the cess pool known as the general forum for MLBTS.

So disappointed with that forum......Mods....get some control. Seriously. It's getting stupid and it is embarrassing already. Utterly ridiculous. Thread after complaint thread keeps propping up. All whine/agenda threads, all stupid and all can be posted in impressions.

I have had 0 throwing errors in the first 6 games of my franchise with the updated sliders. With the new humanity AI, you don't have to press the button down all the way in order to make a hard throw. Your fielders' know now to throw it hard. Maybe somebody else can comment, but I've treated fielders throwing the ball the same way I treat classic pitching in the game- the harder you hold down the button, the harder the fielder will throw the ball but his accuracy gets sacrificed. I'm not sure if you shut off the meter, that it has an impact anymore? No clue. Rarely though do I hold the button down for more than an instant in this year's game.

I go into that thread just to get a good laugh. The main forum is just crazy this year. One guy is screaming he is getting a refund. I never laughed so hard in my life. Stay out of the main forums, the crazies are everywhere. Just going to sit in my nice safe Armor thread and enjoy a great game.

Chef, I don't have issues with batting averages on HOF pitching (similar sliders to Armor but default consistency and control.

Kinda funny how your franchise is mirroring the real life Mariners: http://www.thenewstribune.com/sports...153932514.html

I understand how the throwing works I'm 110 games in and since the change my guys can't throw. Lol

Spot on post. With straight forward button throwing (not button accuracy) if you hold till vibration (and I don't use vibration anymore so it is all feel for me at this point....and I love it) you take that added risk of a throwing error occurring as you do lose control the harder you throw. And yes, the Humanity AI is awesome this year and they do know when to put some mustard on it and when not too.

What an amazing baseball game we have this year!!!
