IMO, an "A prospect" is still a prospect...not a reality. Add into the equation the fact that Sonny isn't the player he once was and his contract status....

Would this have happened in real life? Maybe not. But I don't feel like you took advantage of the CPU either.
Yeah I hear ya about prospects. I was trying to flip them RF Kyle Lewis who was the A prospect I mentioned with a potential of 92. Obviously in real life any prospect can be a toss up, unfortunately in the game with arbitrary numbers attached to their actual potential it makes it more set in stone then it should be, or at least in my experience that has been the case. Miranda hurts more then anything as Iwakuma will be gone at seasons end, Smyly isn't exactly young and King Felix has struggled so I will probably need him come next season but with the amount of aging veterans on my roster it was either take a run this year or watch Cano and Cruz plummet after another year older and go into full on rebuild mode next season with nothing to show for this one.

It's not necessarily Miranda and Liddi that bother me, and yes Liddi does have solid hitting ratings, it's more the fact that I dumped Cishek and his contract on them which still has another year left on it. I rationalized in my head that they would be able to flip him for another prospect if need be as I was getting some pretty solid offers for him had I wanted to go the prospect route.

Anyways, appreciate the feedback. The ironic part is Gray's first start for me will be in 4 games and it will be against none other then Oakland at home in Seattle. That should be a fun one to play, I always enjoy trading for someone or signing someone in free agency and then watching as they face their former team, I doubt anything plays differently when that happens but I always find enjoyment in it.

Lastly, just wrapped up the 3 game series with the Angels and took 2 of 3, which was a huge series for this early in the season. After they swept me first week of June it was nice to take 2 of 3 from them this go around. In the series finale James Paxton just mowed them down (6.0 IP, 1 ER, 3 Hits, 6 K's, 1 BB) and the bullpen combination of Storen, Scribner and Diaz pitched the last 3 innings without allowing a hit and striking out a combined 3. If Gray can step in and make a difference with the bullpen looking much better (outside of Gallardo still sitting in there as the LRP) I might be able to make a move and take the division by seasons end.

        Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

Am I the only one that is completely anal about stat keeping? I've got a spreadsheet broken down for each month for myself and the CPU where I keep track of every games stats to compare to MLB averages. I've got another spreadsheet with every single CPU pitcher I've faced this season and how I've done against them that I update at the conclusion of every game. I've got another spreadsheet with all my pitchers stats including their control ratings for every pitch they throw. AND then I have yet another spreadsheet with just totals for month by month for the CPU and I with totals for the season if I want to see comparisons on the season and not just month by month and I update that after every game as well lol. It adds a little time after every game but not much more then 5 minutes and I enjoy being able to keep track and look at which pitchers I struggle against and which ones I own. For instance when I face Oakland in 4 games I know I'm facing Jesse Hahn and I know he's pitched 5.2 IP, gave up 2 ER on 7 hits while striking out 3 with 1 BB for a 3.17 ERA and 1.41 WHIP against me in specific. It's stuff like that that I really enjoy having access to so was curious if anyone else keeps detailed stats at all when playing.

Well guys, just like in real life baseball, there is a time when you know you need to bow out. Video games have just gotten to hard for me to play appearently. sad day, because I have really enjoyed trying to actually play again this year. Really great game in my opinion, and watching Armor, Chef, and a few of you other guys has really been fun and inspiring. I just dont have it. I just cant pick it up. Classic pitching is awesome and the only way to play, I just cant get the mechanics down as every pitch either goes way out of the zone, or right down the middle. Batting I just cant be consistent enough. Its a great challenge, and I may be trying to hard to understand, but I just cant see the pitches well enough to be able to play with consistency. Armor, how you do this with no aids of any kind, is truly amazing. I'll still catch all your games, as well as Chef's and others. I may try to stick with RTTS and continue my MoM. At least this way, I dont make the players look like middle school dopes lol. I'll still watch this thread as it is the only one that is a joy to come into. Good luck to all you guys, and have a great season.

Forme, just before you give up have you tried to modify the game to suit you instead of the playing the same way as these guys. I've used Armors Sliders for years but have never used the clean screen approach. I'm technically too old to be playing these games and need all the help I can get So I play with all the visual aides on when pitching and hitting. I have pitch speed way lower than these guys and if you still find hitting too difficult the timing slider is your best friend. This is the first year Armors sliders have been a little to difficult for me me so I have changed those as well. Might be worth a try if you don't want to miss out on all the fun this game is no matter how you play it.

I second this. While I love the clean screen, I've found that by turning on a couple visual aides my games are more competitive and fun. For pitching, I turn ON pitch trail fade and put the API at ON instead of Default. Just those two changes have made a world of difference for me, and they really don't clutter the screen that much. For hitting I've been able to hold my own with the sliders as-is, but I do turn ON the PCI, which will put the arrow up on the screen when I choose to use influence. Take it from a guy who had basically retired to Manager Mode until finding this thread. I'd give these suggestions a go before quitting altogether.

Thank you guys. It really isn't the clean screen that is the problem. For hitting I have a clean screen. For pitching I still use ball trail. It helps me to learn pitches. I've thought of dropping to Veteran, but I hear nothing plays more real then AS. I've been here racking my brain trying to think of a medium to not give up. Go to veteran for hitting and leave pitching on AS. Adjust the sliders to make things a little easier. Spend time in practice to see things easier. Maybe putting the strike zone back on will help me read pitches easier.

Armour, thoughts on moving CPU control to 5 on HOF pitching? Just played 2nd game of season between Yankees (me) and Rays with human pitching sliders at 5/5. I had no wild pitches or passed balls while the Rays had 3 wild pitches and a passed ball with CPU pitching sliders at 4/5/4

I'm hanging onto All Star hitting for dear life because I love to draw walks. I would put the strike zone on because it helps your visual memory of strike and balls. For the sliders I would raise hum contact and timing to 6 if you are flailing. Then put on pitch feedback and adjust pitch speed until you are getting good contact a lot of the time. You could drop CPU pitcher consistency to 4 and strike frequency to 3 and balls become more obvious (easier to lay off) and you will get into deeper counts. On the pitching side of things just raise Hum control and consistency to 4 and you will locate your pitches way better. These changes should make the more enjoyable and you can always adjust them back as you improve. Good luck!

This is to Armor and the rest of those that may be having trouble with the sliders.
I'm not that good at the game,so what I did was keep dynamic difficulty on and use Armors sliders as he has them in the first post.

I have played several games this way and today got around to finally starting my franchise. I'm currently standing at Veteran for hitting and All star for pitching and had some great test games and won my opener against the Rangers 6-3 in extra innings.

So for those that may be having trouble and aren't that good at the game (like me...lol) give dynamic difficulty a shot with Armors sliders, you might just be surprised.

btw, great job on the sliders Armor

I did several play now games with the sliders to work on dynamic difficulty and then started my franchise this morning and had the same great results.

As a matter of fact during my season opener I moved to all star pitching while still being down at veteran hitting.

What do you have the dynamic level slider on? Meaning how fast do you have it to get to a higher or lower level? Or did you put it at 0 once your comfortable? I'm afraid to have it at 5 and get a good start from my ace and have it increase too high where my other starters would struggle too much.
