I just picked the game up last night. I have some experience with this game but am struggling with hitting. Probably a noob question but do you aim with the left stick or keep your thumb off of it? Any gameplay/slider suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
Hey A&S. I've had a chance to play a few more games and get a better feel for this years game. I've got my offense more or less together but have noticed a few things that are annoying, which I'm not sure sliders can fix. Noticing too many first pitch strikes by the CPU. Typically they're throwing 70-80% first strikes, and one game 90%.
Another thing is that fielders reaction times and speeds are super human. I smacked one down the 3B line, around 7 feet from the 3B man and he reacted to it like a cheetah, diving and throwing me out. I know some fielders are gold glove quality but this was insane. Outfielders also fly to fly balls, never giving the chance for a bloop to drop in. For example, shallow fly to left and the SS flies into shallow left in less then a second and is there waiting for the ball to drop, when in reality if he was going to make that play he'd be getting there around the time the ball is dropping.
I'm living the game, but these are just a few minor issues I'm noticing.Comment

For me most of the time I don't move the stick. I do it when I'm trying to hit it the other way to move a runner over. Also sometimes when I'm down 0-2 or 1-2 in the count to protect or maybe looking for a sac fly or bunt. Other than that it's pretty much straight up for me."Baseball is Life"

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
Tried this last night and absolutely love it. I have been getting very realistic strike % from the cpu averaging around 63-66 but was on the high side for human 70-72. Very small sample size one game but results promising as I was at 66% which is my lowest for the year. I still only walked one but I'm more concerned with strike % for now. Walks will come. My starter was on last night as was the bullpen. I lost 2-1 and again no homers either side.."Baseball is Life"

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
I have a question about classic pitching and timing I have my fastball and Changeup down with the timing releasing right before the vibration but I can't seem to get the breaking ball like a curveball down they always end up in the dirt....any tips all knowing classic god

I am always super on and off with aiming with the stick. Right now I'm on with it and it's been working great for me. Besides the past week, I hadn't touched it at all since last summer. Pretty much whenever I feel like I'm on a cold streak with hitting I'll switch to either using it or not and I feel like I notice a difference sometimes. Could be psychological too though, lol.Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
In 6 years with this game I had absolutely no idea there was any release timing involved with classic pitching😂. I always hold it down until after it vibrates and that has worked just fine for me. So how does it work? You're supposed to let go before the vibrate??

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
It's really a theory I guess but it works really well for me. I notice a tap gives me better control but less break and if you hold pass vibrate the break is more extreme but less accurate. I read somewhere a while back about release point right before the vibration gives you the best break and velocity mix. It has really worked for me the last couple of years. I had to move from All Star to HOF because I was dominating once I started doing this. Now I still mix it up but I would say 95% of the time I try and hit this release point. In a season I carried over from 16 I am sitting 3rd in the league with a 3.09 ERA end of June. I am 13th in SO.

Here is a new challenge Vols.
Turning the vibration off turns it off for everything. Including knowing when you reach max effort. It goes to muscle memory on no vibration.
Kinda like real life.
It's awesome.

Is it a bad thing to do zone hitting and everything else stay the same with these sliders?Comment

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
Their is no such thing as a "bad" thing playing the game the way you want.
Just tweak your hitting sliders to your skill level as I do not test them on zone hitting.

I'm living the game, but these are just a few minor issues I'm noticing.
I need two more games, and I will post my slider set, which are a base set of Armor's but with adjustments made that are crucial to playing the game with user-controlled fielding.
I also use the Pure Analog throwing for the fielders, and when you turn the double play, knowing that you had to hit the sweet spot under duress, it's a thing of pure joy. Add to it the nerve-wracking throws to the plate with a runner tagging from third, where if your pull down that Rstick, and are off the pie-slice (also penned by yours truly) the "Zone of Influence", you'll have throws up the line, or towards first, allowing runners to slide in safely. The beauty of the Pure Analog throwing is that it allows the user input, but the ratings determine to size of the pie slice in the ZOI, that makes for an accurate, or inaccurate throw.
Take a guy like Evan Longoria at third. His ZOI on a throw to first would be (looking at a clock face) between Two and Four, with the three o'clock line being a perfect r-stick throw. Now, stick another lower-rated player, and maybe at his 2nd or 3rd position, that same throw will need to have a ZOI MUCH closer to the three o'clock tick to be accurate. So while user input requires a steady hand, and a calm demeanor when the pressure builds, the ratings give you the margin of error, based on how good, how accurate, and how skilled the player is.
The greatest part is that you "know" when you push that R-stick, when you may have missed the ZOI, and the white-knuckle ride with two men on, and a routine grounder to short, and you need to put a make an accurate throw... Is just so good.
My sliders take into account the user taking control of the fielding, and in turn, makes for a smooth, and ultra-realistic gameplay on both sides of the ball.
Two more games tonight to lock down where I want the Pitch Accuracy and Consistency, and I will post my 2017 version accordingly.
For you guys who play defense, and use the Pure Analog throwing system.... get ready for a sweaty controller. This game is pure genius.

How often do you guys move the left stick? And when you do, do you do it after the ball is released?

Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider
I use it for aiming prior to making the pitch, and it is my understanding that once you press the button to pitch, additional movement on the L-stick is null.
Would make sense, in that once you release a pitch in real life, you cannot command it once contact is broken.
With the RBI throwback game you can move it, but with the Classic pitching, once you throw it, she's gone.
