    Re: Armor & Sword & Marino's MLB The Show 17 Timed/Classic Simulation All-Star Slider

I started a thread in regards to Strike Frequency and Quick Counts ( I know alot of you dont use QC) . My main question was how the strike frequency slider affects later counts.

For example - if the count is 2-2, does the strike frequency slider affect the CPU's next pitch? Would they be more likely to throw a strike with SFrequency at 5?

I've never figured out if there was any correlation to overall pitcher strategy based on where you leave the strike frequency slider. Is it limited to only early counts? If so whats the cutoff?

Sorry for the ton of questions, but I know there are many smart slider guys in this thread who can hopefully shed some light.

I am hitting and seeing the CPU hot plenty of doubles.

The balance on hitting and the sheer variety of them coupled with the ball physics has been nothing short of amazing on 17.

I have been floating on such a high with this game since the moment I popped it in my PS4 Pro.

A brilliant accomplishment in the genre and this development team needs to hear this more than all the moaning and groaning.

And oh on a side note. I have played several DD games with basically no online issues. Now the game certainly is different online.

This is a truly offline game built for us sim heads.

      Rejoice.

The lack of doubles is really, really starting to drain the fun of this game for me. Since the 1.04 patch I've gone from around 10th in the league in two-batters to nearly dead last. I'm supremely confident that after another 5-10 games, I'll be last in the league in doubles.

Furthermore, I still lead the league in home runs. And every game has around five combined runs. I'd say 90% of my runs come via the home run.

I'm a seasoned veteran of The Show and I know it takes a significant amount of games to really see anything regarding sliders. And I've played enough to know that there's an issue with too few extra base hits.

I'm open to the possibility that it's at least partly an issue on my end. Maybe I need to learn how to hit better with the Directional interface. Which is why I'm posting here.

Are you guys getting enough doubles? Especially since the recent patches? If so, how do you go about hitting them? Any tricks that I'm missing? Should I be pressing up and left/right on the analog stick?

If I never see another double from the opposing team it will be soon enough...lol. I'm seeing plenty of doubles and lots of hit variety. The 5-3-5 is working real well for me.

I see it plenty with the OP as well man.

Tweaks for different styles and skill levels but the bottom line is SDS created a truly extraordinary baseball game this year.

This will be Sports Game Of The Year when the dust settles.

          Easily I may add.

So very true, A & S. I think the game is so good that the margin of error is pretty big with the sliders if a person gives them time to even out over a large sample size. SDS created a game that is easily adjustable and will pair great with any play style. I think this is mainly due to the ball physics and the AI 'intelligence'. Sure you will see a couple funky things, but nothing that is negative enough to take away from the countless positive experiences this game provides.

              It's so amazing to me....

I turn on the game, watch the intro, get the goosebumps, then go into playing some games.

While playing the games, I'm just like giddy the whole time...every hit, every out, every great pitch...for both sides...I just stay giddy the whole game.

At this point in previous years...I'm starting to feel the grind...this year...I can't wait for the next one.

Then I need to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm in June and have probably played 40 games with these sliders (for my offense). Look back at my previous post about runs not coming from home runs and the lack of doubles. I'm either in an insane, bizarre funk (for the second time in 4 games), or I'm not doing something right.

I draw a decent amount of walks and work the count regularly. But it seems like the only pitches I can hit are meatballs. Any strikes up in the zone are pop ups.

I really don't mean to sound like I'm griping and I think SCEA does a fantastic job. This is always my favorite sports game every year. The problem is that I want nothing more than to have fun with it, but my games just haven't been.

Im having a similar experience on Veteran Directional, all Hum sliders at default. wondering if the foul freq at 5 is messing with me, im hitting a ton a shots just foul. Been considering just making the move to AS and going with Armors exact sliders and just taking my lumps, even though im having a hard time on Vet. i know it sounds counterintuitive, but im considering it.

I get plenty of doubles but I did notice that I can only hit meatballs. Anything else is either a pop up, a foul or a weak grounder even if the timing is good. Was contemplating changing it to zone hitting.

That's hitting man. Guys aren't ripping doubles on pitches that are hitting their spots on the corners. If you hit a pitchers pitch you will get out most of the time. Meatballs are the pitches you look to drive

I don't agree with this. One time Vladimir Guerrero hit a home run on a ball that bounced. Good hitters hit the ball hard that are great pitches. We shouldn't have to just sit and wait on a meatball down the middle.

Also, interesting thought on fouls. I wonder the same thing. I hit tons of balls hard that hook just foul. If some of those would stay fair, double... I may move it back to default.

I agree...hitting good pitches hard should be a rare occurrence. Most players have to wait on their pitch to hit it hard. Unless you have guys with insanely high plate vision (like Vlad in his prime), this isn't going to (and shouldn't) happen often.

I just can't reproduce the issues (with the exact op set) that is being commented on here.
