Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
All that being said, I suggest you use this thread as a resource if you ever feel the need to adjust things, like seeing too many/too few strikeouts, etc. But your basis should probably either be from default, or trying one of the other slider sets.
I suggest nomo's sliders for you. I believe he playtested them solely using CPU vs CPU.Last edited by TheWarmWind; 03-27-2018, 12:46 AM.Comment

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
I agree definitely Nomo's sliders for CPU vs CPU. No question. He shows numbers to back it up in almost every category. I've used them and as a very analytical person when it comes to baseball I reccomend them. He just posted in his Stats Based 2017 thread that he may be posting a new set for 2018 but he is very thorough so it could take a little time.Comment

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
Sliders updated for 18. The set that I posted early on is still good and working as intended now, so the original set on the vault is still good to go.
I have playtested this set on both my carry over from 14 with inflated attributes and current OSFM rosters, and am happy to report it is working as I intended it for both.Comment

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
Update: New slider settings are being tested. Expect the OP to change. I have no estimate on how long playtesting will take.
I have been taking armors suggestion and setting my fielder reaction and speed to 3. So far I'm really liking the results. However, hitting feels a bit too easy now, unless I decide to turn this into a full arcade style slider set. I don't have enough of a sample size to outright dismiss my current settings, I'm just letting you guys know which way the wind is blowing.Comment

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
Changes are in the OP. I'm not done testing but I'm confident enough that most of the changes will stick or go even further that I figured it was safe to share.
List of changes:
Batting difficulty changed from veteran to All-Star
I was starting to lose player differentiation on veteran, and even my bench players were starting to hit over .400. I had to make a choice, either mess around with the contact slider (which I hate doing) or bump things up a level.
Human timing changed from 5 to 4
Even on all-star, I felt it was easier to strike out the CPU based on timing then it was for the CPU to strike out me. This could partially be because I stack my team with vision and follow my directional guide to expand my timing window, but either way, it needed to change for me.
Fielder run speed and Fielder reaction changed from 5 to 3
After taking Armor's advice and changing this, I realized how much more realistic it is. This is a big part of the reason why you shouldn't be scared to up the hitting difficulty.
After changing this setting I realized that the default settings are tuned for online play. This is far more realistic.
CPU manager hook from 5 to 6
Even with my set it and forget it attitude, 5 was too low. Of course it's too low for relievers, but I was even find that SP were getting left in too long when getting shelled.
You'll notice I didn't change my errors or my CPU Strike Frequency. Both of these are on purpose, I honestly should have cranked errors up higher last year and am now seeing them at a good clip (while still getting error free games). As for CPU strike frequency at 1, I'm liking it so far on All Star.Comment

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
Just an update, I'm kind of reeling right now on settings, trying to solve a specific problem. I have five potential solutions that I see to it, but lots of potential solutions also means lots of playtesting, so it might be a while.
In the meantime, I have upped the pitching difficulty to legendary. Every single one of my pitchers era was dropping since I started playing 18, and their walk rate was dropping as well, so the difficulty needed to go up.

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
Easy solution if check swings was isolated in the sliders, but unfortunately they are tied into contact.
There are many solutions I'm trying out, I'm currently playtesting veteran with sliders bumped to make it feel like all star. I could get player differentiation back by turning down human solid hits a notch, but currently I've taken a hammer to the timing slider, the theory being it will widen the timing window gap between high vision/contact and low vision/contact players. I'm seeing pretty good results so far, definitely capturing that feeling of having an impact while keeping player differentiation, but I need more playtesting, specifically on my OSFM Jays that actually lack vision and contact in the middle of the order (Donaldson excluded).
Other potential solutions include turning up the contact slider on all-star, turning up the contact slider on HoF (along with fiddling with some other sliders), and like I said before, turning down human solid hits on veteran.
Edit: Oh I also turned up pitch speed on veteran to closer match all-star, and I turned CPU strike frequency down to zeroLast edited by TheWarmWind; 04-12-2018, 09:22 AM.Comment

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
Ok heading back to veteran definitely did not pass the OSFM test. Completely lost most player differentiation and felt unpunished for having low vision and contact.
Now currently playtesting HoF with contact turned up a notch and a bunch of other settings fiddled with.
So far OSFM is playing very well and exactly the feeling I was going for. Only major issue is I'm having trouble nailing down the right CPU strike frequency.
2 feels too low, but 3 feels too high. Mind you, I'm mostly basing that off of 1rst pitch strike numbers which are awful at 2, but so are my first pitch strike numbers with pitching at legend and cpu solid hits at 6. I've been burned too many times already on being in the zone too much too early! So, you know, at least there is parity.
Going to try playtesting the carry over soon.Comment

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
Update:
New slider settings in the OP and in the vault.
I'm really liking how these are playing so far. There are a few settings that I'm unsure about, but the basics of hitting and pitching are spot on.
You'll notice I've started to really mess around with some fielding and running sliders. That's partly to try and find some more differentiation on the field, and also because after taking armors advice and switching to 3 on both fielder speed and fielder reaction, I realized that the game was tuned for online play. I've been watching every single baseball highlight I can find and asking myself "can I do that in game? Are my guys better or worse then that?". Obviously I don't want every defensive highlight to be like that, I just want it to be possible for the player controlled fielders to bust that out on occasion.
Some tips for pulse pitching on legend on these settings:
1. Throw less fastballs, especially in the zone. A realistic FB to offspeed ratio will get you clobbered. Moving fastballs that dip out of the zone are your bread and butter most days. My fastball to offspeed ratio hovers between 60/40 and 50/50.
2. Don't always aim at the zone, even when you want a strike. Have it so the edge of your circle is in, but most of it is out. What this does is show you're throwing out of the zone with your body language, and this often fools the hitter. You'd be surprised how many batters I get looking on legendary.
3. Be ok with walking a guy. Do you know how many guys I've got swinging at an extremely wide slider when they just let go a debatable changeup? The answer is too many.
4. Don't ever "just get a strike". Never. Never ever. Did that the last game I played, throwing a sinker rather lazily into the zone thinking "he'll never see it coming!". He saw it coming, and tied up the game with a three run homer.
5. Timing is your best weapon. Throwing a speed they haven't seen in a while is the best way to mess up an opponent and get an easy grounder or a swing and miss. Sometimes I just throw fastballs out of the zone just to get their timing out of whack for the change that is coming. Pay attention to how often they are early, how often they are late. This will inform you what they are looking for.
6. Don't panic. This game feeds on your panic.Comment

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
WOW! Legend hitting. Thanks for the write up. It has been very informative to see your thought process. I concur about Roster and team choice being important. I recently have moved to a new OFSM Franchise to play closer to Default. Must say I had no trouble check swinging with Pedrioa (high vision, contact, discipline) against Archer in my first game on AllStar. Although you probably wouldn’t want to play with themthey are the perfect team to checkswing with. I know it was Armors idea but your input finally convinced me to go 3/3 on Fielder speed/reaction and it has been great. I could even tell the difference between Bradley and Kiermaier in CF. Might just give the baserunner speed/arm strength idea a run as well. Will let you know how it goes.

Re: TheWarmWind's Impact Sliders
Looking forward to giving these a try. Like a said in the Directional Batting post, I have had a hard time getting the timing down as of late with both fastballs and changeups. Had my timing down good until just recently (may be patch related) but with this set up will up the pitch speeds for both and see what happens. Not one for sliders as this will be my first time using them since I've started playing the game a few years back but I'll make sure and get in a 10 to 15 game sample size before I give proper feedback.
