Thanks for the response. Actually reducing my Pitch Control to 4 has made me throw more than a few mistake pitches. But even then, the AI seems content on taking these mistake pitches a lot.Comment

That's the reason why lower control doesn't work as well ....even at 5, it's problematic. The CPU's approach is much better with both values at 6.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
The only thing I'm noticing after about a month of games is some really wonky fielding decisions.
I play on auto fielding, and sometimes my OF's (and the CPU's) will just take awful routes to really routine balls, causing triples or even inside the park home runs. They often have a weird animation where they tumble to the ground after reaching out for it.
Thinking this might be Fielder Reaction related, but not 100% sure.
1. Ratings matter a TON. Basically, if you have a guy with a fielding rating below 70, you're playing with fire. They will make mistakes on routine balls (as in real life). Guys below 60 can be brutal at times (depending on the position).
2. I've personally waffled with the two fielding sliders and I'm strongly considering going back to default for my own personal uses. Now, I'll leave the OP alone but as I state in the OP, default really does play well. I will say this, I do think the fielder speed/reaction sliders should be set to the same value.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
What's the more challenging way to hit , is it as its posted in the settings with Hitting interface directional and input type buttons , or is pure analog with stride and swing more of a challenge

Are you referring to the Pitch Control slider at 6 improving the CPU's approach? Would raising the CPU Contact to 7 essentially accomplish the same thing?Comment

Tyler said a lot of the things I would say. I'll throw in my perspective:

The one I'm seeing it the most with is Charlie Blackmon, who I just checked has a fielding rating just above 50. That seems a bit harsh considering he is an every day outfielder, but I get that as he's gotten older he's gotten worse than he used to be.
I might knock it back up to default on those and test it out, but do like some of the side effects being more singles and doubles on balls that SHOULD be. On default I noticed a ton of those would get caught even by an average fielder.Teams:

Quoting this one, but thanks to Tyler as well.

This is how I would break down fielding ratings (this is a very rough guideline I use - basically using something along the line of DDs common/bronze/silver/gold/diamond method):
>90: superb defender
80-90: very good
70-80: solid, but not great
60-70: meh
<60: he better have an amazing bat or be a DH.
So all those things you're seeing, you should be seeing from him based on those ratings....Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
Blackmon has two positions he is capable of playing in-game; PH and DH. He is a downright awful defensive outfielder in-game with those ratings. That isn't a slider issue....

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
Truthfully, I think a lot of people overreact a bit about the fielder speed. I've played 70-80ish games with the current fielding sliders. Honestly, as I've switched back to default, I just don't see a marked difference in terms of outcomes. Is there going to be one long-term?. Yes, of course there will be. But I think a lot of folks see a great defensive play at default, assume the speed is too fast, and change it; when in many cases, that great defensive play still would have happened at 4. But, they switch it to 4 anyways, see a ball that the OF doesn't get to, and use that outcome to 'validate' the change (when in reality, the OF probably would not have gotten to it at default either - it would've just been a tad closer). Certainly people who use extreme setups (i.e. more than one-click from default) will see greater differences, but I've seen more than enough variety at default.
The fielder reaction slider definitely has a lot of effects (pretty sure it affects tag speeds and how quickly the defenders get rid of the ball on top of the obvious affect on a defender's first step)....it's almost like a 'fielder animation speed' slider. (I interestingly saw a rare user OF assist last night with a quickly thrown ball to 2B - it was super close...and no way it would have been an out at 4. I'll be interested in seeing if it is a 'one-off' or not....)
I've made the change back to default for fielder run speed and fielder reaction, reflecting my mindset of, "If changing a slider doesn't have a definitive positive effect, you're better off with it at default." I'm updating the OP to reflect what I am using (but with the caveat that 4 has been tested).Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
I'm having some issues , I'm using the settings and sliders as posted but I was using analog to swing . In my last 5 games I only managed to score 2 runs with analog , I get on average around 6-10 hits a game with analog . Today I switched to hitting controls with button as posted here and 1st game against the Red Sox I won 10-1 and got 18 hits. With analog I can get on base but struggled to score , with the buttons I just smoked every pitch . I don't know what to stick with , any advice suggestions

Re: JoshC1977's MLB 19 Sliders
I've left that on Directional , just finished my 2nd game with button as swing and had 7 hits with 0 runs scored . Lost the game 5-0 . I'm just struggling to score runs , I'm only 13 games in so maybe it will get better. I just really like the analog for stride and swing , just feels more authentic for me .
