This is the aspect of this set that I absolutely love and why I am really big on people getting sample size. I used this setup last year (sans the non-default injury value) and I'd go through those stretches where my pitching was doing well only to be humbled (and that is the perfect word). I conversely had stretches where we were getting hit hard and then suddenly I'd get a hardcore standout pitching performance or two.

I think I'm going to give this a try tomorrow.. I usually use Houstons sliders but he took them down.. Might give these a shot and see how I end up after five games.

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
Hey Josh I’m using these slides with the Dodgers and I’m using All Star +. I was using pitch speeds at 8/7 and user timing at 4. But the hit variety seems a little off. It feels like it’s a hard extra base hit or an out. No loopers and I don’t know if it’s the timing at 4 or not. You did say we can lower it a notch if it’s too easy but the hit variety can suffer a little. I’m striking out enough right now but I’m afraid going to 5 on timing I will not strike out enough and hitting will be too easy. My question is how high do you recommend me going on pitch speeds before it is like a memory game? Is it better to lower timing or raise pitch speeds?Follow me on Twitch

In addition, another approach, try the pitch speed settings at 8/6. My thought is that if you go to 8/7 and are behind on a FB, that might put you right out in front of offspeed stuff (i.e. "the hammer zone").Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Josh, what, if any changes would you suggest for someone who uses pulse pitching? Curious. Though I enjoy creating RTTS pitchers, being able to track the ball this year, has allowed me to create and use position players again.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
I know it's not exclusive to these sliders but I've fully committed to not having the pitch marker on and it's tough but so satisfying. A totally different experience. Found a few ways to work out the general area the strike zone should be and had to make a cheat sheet for my staffs pitches but the thrill of trying to hit that corner being down 3-2. Wooo!

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
It is funny you said that because I started to do the same thing. I was pitching on All Star + with the pitch marker on classic fade. I thought maybe the bump to plus would balance out having it on. But pitching was starting to get too easy still. I would still walk batters and my pitch strike percent would still be around 60-65%. But I knew It was a good chance that I was going to throw a ball on a 0-2 count to get the batter to chase because I knew where I was aiming at. So I played a couple of games with it off and I gave up a few home runs from pitches that didn’t leave the strike zone. Sometimes it is a challenge for me to get it far enough out of the zone when I need to. I tend to throw more strikes with the ball marker off. I’m going to go back down to All Star and have it off for a couple of games. Then work my way back to plus.
Yes turn that off, turn off vibration. You’ll never walk on your own if you rely on crutches.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

I think a good transitional way to get to no ball marker is to use “classic fade” because even though you can still see your fastball location, you still have to judge the break on your off speed pitches. I just switched to “classic fade”. My end goal is the ball marker being completely off.

Is there a way to get rid of the arrows when using classic fade when throwing something other than a 4 seamer?

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
No...it's easy enough to make the edits. The true "meat" of the sliders is in the approach and settings...not the sliders. If you don't play clean screen, if you don't use the control settings as specified here, you're not really following the setup....and it's impossible to convey that in the vault.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
I would recommend turning all visual aids off and vibration as well. I used to use vibration when I pitched and fade. This year I used classic fade when the game first came out. Then went totally clean screen. Trust me. You don't need them.
I really thought it would be difficult without these, but realized it really wasn't. Just a slight movement of the left stick is enough. Each pitchers repertoire is different and once you know them things will fall into place. Some pitchers sliders have a huge sweep and you have to allow for that. Holding down longer on the button can help to flatten out the big sweep. I use Tanaka and have been able to spot it in on right handed batters or let it slide outside. Getting to know your staff is crucial. Sometimes when my pitchers is getting knocked around is because my strike percentage is getting 70% or more. That's too high. The cpu doesn't worry about me throwing balls and will just start teeing off.
Pitch sequence is the most important thing in pitching. Mixing up speeds and location is really important. The 2nd and 3rd time through the order is when you're more likely to get lit up, so mix it up. Up 0-2, throw one in the dirt or throw one neck level. You'll be surprised how often the cpu will chase. If they don't well at least they're making little or no contact, and if you do this somewhat often you'll get your share of boarderline strikeouts. This of coarse can be dependent on the hitter. Some guys will chase and almost anything.Comment
