Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders

Man Bacons roster keeps things exciting. I’m using the Padres. Made a few minor trades and one big one. Sent my number 1 starter to the Mets for their stud pitcher Sacramento. This dude is an absolute stud and a true number 1 starter. The one two punch of him and Thigpen have just been fantastic. I was was on a 3 game losing streak when my Stud Sacramento was preparing to take the mound after dropping first two games in San Francisco. It was a very rough first 5 innings cause they answered back with a stud in their own Takatsu. It was strikeout for strike out with these two pitchers. Both had 10 strikeouts each through 5 innings. Hits were like 4 in favour of me to their 2 at that point. The only difference was I was getting a lot of full counts Takatsu had his pitch count over 95 in that 5th inning. The 6th would be his small but undoing nevertheless. He would end up surrendering 2 run on 4 hits including a homer by my struggling catcher Greene. It was further blown open in the 7th with two more runs given up by relievers. Sacramento would make it to the 9th where he surrendered a lead off homer. I took him out after 97 pitches where his stat line looked like this:

    Sacramento (W, 4-0)
    8.0 innings 3 H 1 R 1 ER 1 BB SO 13 ERA 0.27

    Takatsu (L, 2-1)
    6 1/3 innings 6 H 2 R 2 ER 2 BB SO 10 ERA 1.86

Before I went on this 3 game losing streak I had won 7 games in a row. An then my 3, 4 and five pitchers just got absolutely mashed by the cpu giving up multiple homerun games I almost crushed another control how frustrating it was. But here we are 1 game over San Fran

    San Diego (11-5) L10 7-3
    San Francisco (10-6) L10 5-5
    Dodgers (10-6) L10 9-1
    Diamondbacks (9-8) L10 5-5
    Rockies (6-9) L10 4-6.

Absolutely amazing. I haven’t even touched my Jays Franchise. Well I went back to it once but it just didn’t feel the same so I went right back here. An the game is playing fantastic!

But since then, I have been absolutely mashing. In my last 7 games, i have scored: 10, 11, 8, 6, 7, 16 (20 hits and 7 homers), 8 runs.

I have hit 28 home runs in just 9 games and am leading the league in almost every offensive category. I already have 8 homers with Tatis. To be fair, I have faced the Rockies pitching staff in 6 of my 9 games, and only faced Marquez and Gray once (which were the first two games when my offense was slowed down). I know sample size is key, but coming off Armors HOF sliders (even though I was mashing with those too, my pitching was just atrocious), I am worried these are too easy for me, but I trust your sliders and approach so IDK what to do. The only change I have from the OP is 8/7 pitch speed. Am I just on an offensive tear facing bad pitching in hitters parks?

I know I probably need to give it more time to even out, but man I am started to really get frustrated with this game being either too easy or too hard. I just want competitive games, its not even fun when I am hitting every pitch I see 110mph either out of the park or for a double. If you have any other suggestions to make it more of that All Star + feel, I would love to hear your thoughts. Sorry for the long and annoying post but I am starting to get frustrated. Thanks!
Did you actually bump it up to All Star+? I'd give that a shot.

If you had; you can try faster pitch speeds, but I honestly feel there comes a point where the faster you go, the easier it becomes (becomes it devolves into muscle-memory vs skill).

I'd also like to know what roster you're using.

No there isn't...it just shows how close you are to HOF.

I've always been a Quick Counts person because I've usually tried to squeeze in games while still watching baseball on TV. So with more free time I decided to switch Quick Counts off for the first time in years and use these sliders and just...wow! The game played so nice! It feels like I'm playing a baseball game again.

I agree with Josh about the pitch speeds.

I've tried HOF and and find that level to frustrating and difficult. If hitting is too easy you can lower Hum timing to 4. If pitching is too easy you can raise CPU timing to 6. I wouldn't advise going higher or lower with either slider as it will mess with hit variety. If neither of those work AS+ might be the answer as it will increases the difficulty. I know AS+ hitting for me is noticeably harder.

In my opinion when josh changed control to 6 it really changed the set to be more competitive. I would look at that slider if your looking for more of a challenge.

I'd be careful here....raising the CPU Control even higher than 6 may make them nibble too much...which could cause pitcher confidence levels to drop...and thus increase offense even more but via means of more poor pitches.

Just checking in after the weekend, AS+ continues to be a dream with these settings. I had lost 6 of 9 before sweeping the Chi Sox in a 4 game road trip.

Continue to see new animations and new instances where player ratings shine. The entire experience just feels optimized for me right now.

Gotcha! Did not know that. I just noticed a definite change in play on both sides when we went to 6. It plays a lot better and im seeing more of a challenge than on 5. I may have over stepped. See, im not up to par on mlb. Just pointing out what i was seeing.

I love the gameplay on 6

That's how I am on AS right now (and I love knowing I have a "fallback plan" should I need to bump things up).

I had a really nice string of pitching for about 5 games, including a couple of shutouts. Then...boom...my rival Mets lit me up in the last 2 games of our series (including getting to my ace pitcher big time...and he was on such a roll that his WHIP is up to 0.79 AFTER the shellacking, lol).

You know things are balanced if someone asks you, "How do you think this game will go?" before you start, and you answer, "I have no idea."...THAT my friends, is the very nature of a great role-playing experience. We our writing our stories every single game.

Having a lot of fun with this set for the same reason. Things happen all the time that surprise me. For example I was cruising with Jaylen Poole and Bacon's Braves. 1 hit and 6 Ks through 4. Reds start the 5th with a double. No biggie. Then a ball up the middle bounces off the glove of SS. By the end of the inning the Reds have almost batted around and I'm warming up relievers. This was on all-star for pitching and hitting.

I had gone down the slider hole a bit and actually found a set that was working pretty well for me. Changes all within the 4-6 range, but still veering from default. Always give your set a try when you make any changes and was pleasantly surprised what solid hits at 4 did for hitting and pitching. Still deciding between All-Star or All-Star+ for pitching. All-Star+ is viable, but for me it does start to get that Hall of Fame feel where results don't seem as organic. An outstanding game this year, hope everyone is enjoying it as much as I am!

Absolutely loving the ebb and flow that these sliders provide. Hot and cold runs both on offense and the bump, errors feel natural and realistic — recently had a game vs the Twins where they committed 4, and other times go multiple games with none. Just fantastic stuff. Thanks again.

Well my adventure with AS+ has come to an end. The last 4 games of my Yankees franchise have been for a better word, exasperating.

4 games where I faced the vaunted pitching staffs of Detroit and Toronto. Ranked 30th and 21st in pitching, I eeked out a total of 4 doubles and 0 home runs total in those games. Now I know that seasons have ebbs and flows and on any given day or even a series the poorer team can kick your butt. The last games I played at that AS+ level, I felt like I was hitting with a wet noodle. I had back to back at bats with Judge and Stanton where I was hitting pitches, on the button, right down the middle, and hit 400 foot fly outs to center. Not pop fly's or liners, but that soft liner that just seems to hang.

So I fired up a game this morning vs Toronto and lost a slug fest 10-11. My Yanks had 1 and Toronto belted out 3. That game sealed it for me to go back to default.

The reason for my bumping up to AS+ was that my Yankees were just simply mashing the ball. About 2.1 homers a game and a team batting average around .298. This was mostly due to D.J. LeMahieu hitting around .408.

So I looked back Josh at your OP and reread your Scooter Gennett example and thought to myself, wait a second. I'm playing with the Yankees. They're rated in game #1 in power, #2 in contact, and somewhere in the top 5 in pitching. You should be mashing the ball and have a high batting average and your pitching staff should, barring injuries, be one of the best in the league. If Mr. LeMahieu hits .400 then he hits .400. If the team hits 420 home runs, then so be it. The lineup has Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Torres, and Voit. With their power numbers they should me mashing the ball.

Seems like everyone is using the Yankees lol . I’m more of a rebuilding team type but to each their own.

Back to using your sliders for good Josh. I love Armors set but I can not stand the pitching on there. You can barely get the cpu to miss and it makes most of my pitchers basically contact pitchers.
