4 games where I faced the vaunted pitching staffs of Detroit and Toronto. Ranked 30th and 21st in pitching, I eeked out a total of 4 doubles and 0 home runs total in those games. Now I know that seasons have ebbs and flows and on any given day or even a series the poorer team can kick your butt. The last games I played at that AS+ level, I felt like I was hitting with a wet noodle. I had back to back at bats with Judge and Stanton where I was hitting pitches, on the button, right down the middle, and hit 400 foot fly outs to center. Not pop fly's or liners, but that soft liner that just seems to hang.

So I fired up a game this morning vs Toronto and lost a slug fest 10-11. My Yanks had 1 and Toronto belted out 3. That game sealed it for me to go back to default.

The reason for my bumping up to AS+ was that my Yankees were just simply mashing the ball. About 2.1 homers a game and a team batting average around .298. This was mostly due to D.J. LeMahieu hitting around .408.

So I looked back Josh at your OP and reread your Scooter Gennett example and thought to myself, wait a second. I'm playing with the Yankees. They're rated in game #1 in power, #2 in contact, and somewhere in the top 5 in pitching. You should be mashing the ball and have a high batting average and your pitching staff should, barring injuries, be one of the best in the league. If Mr. LeMahieu hits .400 then he hits .400. If the team hits 420 home runs, then so be it. The lineup has Judge, Stanton, Sanchez, Torres, and Voit. With their power numbers they should me mashing the ball.
(It's SO funny you bring this up now; I'm doing a little poll on Twitter right now about breaking records in franchise modes and how people feel about doing so.)

I put the Scooter example in the OP for a reason....because it really sums-up my mindset. I don't want to arbitrarily cap things as long as they are within the realm of believability.

DJ hitting .400 in a career year? I can see that; he's got skillset (i.e. ratings), a division with crummy pitching staffs (exempting Tampa); and a lineup to protect him.

Now, if you were in mid-season and hitting .400 with Judge or Gary and those awful vision/contact ratings....I'd question it.

You're going to mash with the Yanks...I'm floored by the number of folks I've seen here on OS who have been complaining about "too many HRs" followed by the statement "I'm using the Yankees". If you are NOT hitting HRs with that team, there is a problem...lol.

You'll get some regression to the mean, I have no question of that. A roadtrip to some of the more cavernous ballparks and good pitching staffs...and boom....cold streak.

Glad the OP helped you out man!

Back to using your sliders for good Josh. I love armies set but I can not stand the pitching on their. You can barely get the cpu to miss and it makes most of my pitchers basically contact pitchers.
A Yankees fan since 1967. And I meant 320 home runs not 420. lol I don't think that would be even possible.

With Josh's sliders the player ratings do matter.

Then...boom...my rival Mets lit me up in the last 2 games of our series (including getting to my ace pitcher big time...and he was on such a roll that his WHIP is up to 0.79 AFTER the shellacking, lol).

Have to say the same. Scored 15, 7, 1, and 6 in 4 games before the All Star Break. Then two games after the Break I’ve scored 1, 2 vs. 3rd & 4th starters. Never know from each game, that’s baseball so that’s all you can ask for right?!

Remember how many times Minnesota hit 7 HRs in a game last year? If that happened in The Show 95% of the people would be restarting their franchise and adjusting sliders. It blows my mind lol

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders

I decided to start a franchise using the Mariners. Never used that team before but starting to like the players. A nice young team and I’m hoping I can hit with Cargo so I can trade him at the deadline. I make a trade at the beginning of the year to get Chris Archer to lead the pitching staff. Gave the Pirates 3 decent prospects. That stadium, man the balls die on the warning track. A couple of hard hit balls that I thought were gone were either caught in front of the warning track or bounce for a double. I know I’m not going to hit to too many home runs in that stadium.

This is my first time using a team that wasn’t supposed to win. I don’t have to do a rebuild but I just have to be patient for the young guys to be ready. Hard for me not to just trade them for a star and try to win now. LOL

I have become so frustrated with my franchise... My A's were sitting 15-10 and 3 games back of the Angels. Since that day I have gone 3-14. I've blown 4 saves and lead the league in hitting into double plays by a wide margin. Couple that with my league worst team Era and I need someone to talk me off the cliff!

I don't mind losing at all in fact I have no interest in playing without challenge but this is killing me. The A's won 97 games last year. Even with regression I think they have 85-90 win talent...

You will be like the real life A’s and win about 20 in a row in the middle of the season to put them back in the race.

No offense man but the A’s are really not that good in the game. Their lineup is about average and their starters are well below average. Make a trade or two for some real starting pitching to get you back on track. Plus they have no real starting second baseman and the output you’ll get from those two catchers must be terrible. They might have the worst catcher tandem in baseball right now

                      My Reds chise last year...

We were 14 or 15 games under .500 in late June. Swapped around a couple of guys and we went on a tear heading into the All Star break. Hit another tear in September...

Eventually, we finished tied for first in the division on the last day of the season. Played game 163, went to the playoffs and made it all the way to the WS...where we were swept by Houston.

Hang in there man!! It's a marathon!!

I just started up a White Sox franchise, using 2020 Riden + Roster Resource 8.5 by mkharsh,..i highly recommend these rosters any way... I have been bouncing between you Josh and Armor sliders, been following both of you man since you guys started...

Today I played the first two games against KC and man, talk about night and day...

                        Game 1
Keuchel was on point, he pitched 7 shutout innings and I was slamming in runs, I figure I would see this all series well cause Kc pitching sucks and the Sox hitting was going to challenge any one...won 8-1

                        Game 2
Totally different story. Out came Giolito, first batter in and gets injured from a Lat strain...I told him to stretch before the game but does he listen to, oh no...Now let the scoring feast begin...I set out to play a baseball game and football game broke out...the chiefs...I mean royals scored 14 and the white Sox drove in 12...no pitcher was safe on either team...

The reason I want to share this is because there are people that complain that’s not baseball, but to me it felt like a KC-white Sox games...I have been watching games and playing baseball games since the Atari Homerun.... yeah kids google that one up, that will show you my age...anyway great job on the sliders, off to play game 3...your sliders are on point and I am excited again to play this game...

Sacramento my ace of the pitching staff for The Padres got lit up for 3 homers by The Rockies. He ended up giving up 4 runs in 6 innings but still managed to get the win. The my number 2 pitches the second game of a new series against the cubs and throws 86 pitches in 4 innings and and surrenders 3 runs. He just didn’t have it. We end up losing that game he suffers his first loss of the season bloating his sparkling 1.87 ERA to 2.55.... Ebbs and flows. Game is amazing I took the loss on the chin it was ridiculous the wind was blowing in while playing in Wrigley the ball wasn’t moving. Had to make another trade tho. My lineup is so left handed it feels unbalanced. Traded my CF who was mightly struggling. While his defence will be missed I am managed to package him and Mister Starks a Minor league at best Starter who was featured as a long man on my major league staff for a 32 year old 1st baseman making 9 mil and there starting CF. Both right handed bats to add to the lineup. I have a guy in AAA who is a future piece and top 25 prospect who I’d like to bring up next year. So for now I will use the first baseman with my left handed starting first baseman as they will share the load for the rest of the season. I think I’m done making trades unless something really is offered to me and I’m blown away. Hopefully everyone stays healthy!

Played a game last night in my Braves fictional 'chise.

It was our first game under new manager Ron Washington, who was promoted from the 3B coach's role to manager after we fired Snitker.

Things were going great, Jaylen Poole threw 3 perfect innings to start the game vs the hot Phillies.

Then, he got smacked around a little, left the game in the 6th up 4-3. After a scoreless 7th, the 8th and 9th innings got crazy.....lost the game 10-9.

It wasn't a HR-fest either....just lots of hits strung together by both squads.

Just had a humbling game (albeit, vs Houston) where, my entire pitching staff just collectively didn't have 'it'. From the first inning I was just pounded, and each reliever was subsequently equally rocked. Couldn't find the plate, and as I inched closer, they just hammered everything to the tune of 13 Runs. Just when you think you're cruising and have it 'figured out', you get a reminder that no, you in fact, do not.

Still really enjoying this slider set. I'm in a new Franchise with the Oakland A's using Rider 2.5, which appears to be an excellent roster, so I'm looking to report on how things look come the end of April.

                              Thanks again, Josh.
