Completely off-topic, but it's my thread
If any of you still play NCAA 14, I have done a re-boot of my slider thread for that game. Having an absolute blast with that game again!

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
For everyone in the thread, do you guys use 30 team control in order to have realistic lineups/rotation/bullpen? Or do you just choose your team and let the CPU run with it? If so, do the lineups the CPU puts out bother you? ThanksComment

I do 30 team and try to set up lineups myself for most teams. Just to make sure they don’t have a good player at a platoon. But once the season starts I pretty much let them do their own thing.Follow me on Twitch

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
Man talk about the ebb and the flow of a season...
My first trip into Yankee Stadium, I get absolutely pounded. Down 7 - 0 in the 4th inning, with a 9 - 1 final. I gave up double after HR after double after HR. I had a 1.0 game lead on the Yanks coming into the series, and I think to myself, well, it was fun while it lasted. Then I go on to score 18 Runs in the next two games, just smashing the ball (some very 'cheap', Yankee Stadium HRs helped). I'm feeling great. Off day, then off to my first Interleague Series in Atlanta - a 2 gamer. I scored 1 Run on 8 Hits across both games total, getting swept in the 2 games. Ronald Acuna was an absolute Hoover in RF swallowing up would be singles and doubles. Also, was very cool, as Christian Pache made his debut in Game 1, and pre-game they had him signing baseballs over by the crowd; an animation I had never seen before (in addition to the beach balls at Yankee Stadium, which I'd also never seen).
In short, loving this game, and continuing to love this slider set!Comment

The thing I am proudest of as a GM is that I have integrity...I don't believe in burning bridges. I will not insult a fellow GM with crap trades, I will not try to "low ball" deserving players from good contracts. I try hard to be an honest broker; but I will protect my players and my team. You play hard for me, I will try and help you out. But, I have loyalty to my owner as well...and I will do everything in my power that does not violate my morals to meet their wishes/demands.Last edited by JoshC1977; 05-13-2020, 09:08 AM.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

LOL, wrong thread (this is MLB, not NCAA)....but I'll answer. You just keep it at normal when you start a new dynasty. Most people would change it to slow/very slow...which caused lots of issues in-game that they are unaware of.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
Oh heck no! That would be tampering with another organization; the commissioner's office would probably levy huge fines for our team. And honestly, I could care less about how the other teams run their organizations. If other teams put out lineups I wouldn't put out for my team, so be it. If they cut a guy I wouldn't cut, so be it. If they expose a guy to the Rule 5 that I wouldn't, so be it. I'm sure I do things as a GM that have the others in the league scratching their heads..but that's OK.

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
Well, I've been using the OP settings essentially since June/July of last year (with the exception of the time we were still tinkering here after launch). It was time....after probably 200+ games with these settings (between MLB19 and MLB20)
I've officially moved up to AS+....
I just needed an added "edge" across the board...the funny thing is that my fictional Braves were 8 games under .500 when I made the switch. It's not like it was "too easy" but the trends weren't jiving with the ratings FOR ME (which is an indication that I was slipping into 'coast mode' - which for me means that I was hitting too well and pitching too poorly).
It's brought back my focus, my fear of the CPU. I'm super excited to keep on going. I'm in late May in my season and am beginning a stretch where I play only 2 games against teams with losing records in the next 30 games. It's going to be a challenge. (But man...my first game, it was SO nice to score 3 runs in the game with no XBH).
There will be no OP changes as a result of this. If AS is working well for you, stick with AS. If you are hitting or pitching too well...don't be afraid to bump it up. lhsballa has been on AS+ with the OP for quite some time and has been having a blast; I've watched many of his streams and it stays true to the core of this thread while adding that "edge".Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
Just hit the AS break with my Bacon Tigers, where we sit at a comfortable 66-31, 12.5 games up on the 2nd place Twins.
I moved to All Star + about 55 games into the season, and it's been an absolute dream. Since that time we are playing just above .500 ball following a 3 game sweep at the hands of a LOADED Houston lineup.
I remarked last night on stream that this is the MOST fun I've ever had in a sports game.
I wont share team or individual stats until seasons end. I can tell you I am NOT first in any offensive category at the moment. My early season success on the mound (on All Star), has me leading most pitching categories, but those numbers are normalizing with every game played.
One last story here. As we were finishing Game 3 of the series vs Houston, heading right into the AS break after, our stud 3B Jaylen Pain was targeted by those sleezy Astros with a high and hard fast ball. Jaylen ended up breaking his forearm and will be out for 1-2 months!
This adds a terrific wrinkle to my story. We don't have a ready made replacement in house. The front office will use the break to determine if we go fishing for a rental, a stud, or find some solution in the minor leagues to stem the tide until the Pain-Train returns.Twitch: Goblue81188Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
(and it gives you a little clue into how my brain works with franchise mode).
Here's the thing from a functional standpoint. Multi-team control disables GM contracts. That is a massive immersion-breaker for me. Like it bothers me more than any wonky AI behavior. WTF am I going to play a mode where I can keep my job as GM even if we lose 100 games for 10 straight season?! That's what bugs me more than anything.
That said I think there are 2 types of HAPPY franchise mode players:
- The 'Create a World' players. I think Armor fits into this perfectly. Using 30 team control to engineer trades league-wide for storylines. Focusing overall on how the league shapes throughout the years.
- The 'GM-focused' players. This is me. My focus is on my 'career' as a GM. I focus on MY team, MY players, and get ensconced into the nitty gritty with my guys. In this approach, the onus has to be put on you by the Owner. You have to do your job or lose it....and this is why single-team control is vital here.
IMO, if you're just wanting to use 30 team control to "fix issues", you're likely going to be miserable doing so. If this is you, I highly recommend letting go and going single team and embracing your roleplay as the GM. I know some folks will vehemently disagree with me...that's OK.Last edited by JoshC1977; 05-15-2020, 08:41 AM.Play the games you love, not the games you want to love.Comment

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
I love controlling just a single team. Let the league play out with as little interference from me as possible. Whether real or fictional rosters in my mind the minute the first pitch of spring training happens the world becomes fictional. I'm not too bothered by what goes on in the league. Also I rarely except those lopsided trades from the CPU, unless I can justify some sort of reason they'd give me such a good deal.Nope, I totally get it man; I was just having a little fun with the response(and it gives you a little clue into how my brain works with franchise mode).

On my 30 team franchise all the GM goals are the same. So if I do single team each team will have a different set of goals?Follow me on Twitch

Re: JoshC1977's "Maximize Player Ratings" MLB 20 Sliders
Never mind, I see the different goals. Yearly goals are either finish at .500 or make playoffs. And then the contract goals. But the team performance goals are the same for every team. Which I think should be different for each team. It’s okay to have a goal for the Yankees to win 10 games and series in a row. But a team like the Tigers should have lower expectations.Follow me on Twitch
