Well, I believe I have joined the Classic pitching crew. 3 games ago for a series with the Astros I said what the hell. I figure I may as well give it a shot against a good hitting lineup and see how it went. I also wanted to do this prior to starting my official Twins franchise. It truly is amazing how Classic brings a lot more life to the game. It was still great using meter pitching and having more of that influence but at the same time I just wasn't having much in terms of deep count battles. It was simply throw strike after strike on the edge of the plate and get the CPU out. That's even on legend with some tweaks to make control harder.
Anyway, Classic pitching really gets you into some deep counts and throwing a nice amount of balls/strikes and pitches overall. There's long innings and then still your quick ones. You also really think about what you throw because a miss in the zone and you can certainly end up paying. The pitchers ratings and confidence in pitches really do play out amazingly. Ie. my first full game using Classic I had Syndergaard on the mound. I think I was at 75 pitches going into the 5th. I got out of 3 jams in those first 4 innings with giving up 1 run I think it was. It just felt like a grind. Then I had him go out for the 5th thinking it was his last inning. I had an 8 pitch inning so I left him in for the 6th.
One thing I wanted to do was not use my slider or curveball much the first time around the order so I could start mixing it in the 2nd time around. My slider was ok but my curveball couldn't hit the broadside of a barn. Every one of them was in the dirt so I had to start aiming higher. Well, on one of them I hung it and it got demolished. There just wasn't any confidence in the curveball.
I'm just going to keep rolling with Classic. I love the results so far. FWIW, Trout is a damn cheat code ha. I'm hitting .351 with 5 HR's and 8 RBI's through 8 games. Rendon has also crushed but what's been awesome to see is his defense. He's had 3 diving plays that have looked awesome. Defensive ratings really do matter based on seeing him make the plays he has versus other third basemen.
