My quick reaction is its a more polished game with some new features. It's tough to hit in the game, same settings in 11 and I could barely hit and pitching was getting walloped. Will take some getting used to.Thank you to all the men and women who serve in this great nations armed forces.Comment

Reworked roster screens for pitching and hitting
Dirty uniforms
Improved graphics
Rain outs in played games (previously had rainouts in simmed games)
The offseason draft has been reworked
Rosters updated
yadda yadda yadda
I have no clue what a generated pitch count option is, sorry.... It does show you the pitch count clearly.Thank you to all the men and women who serve in this great nations armed forces.Comment

No. The game is quick enough with starting with a 0/0 count. 20-25min to play a 9 inning game. Manager Mode allows you to play a game watching one pitch at bat as well.Thank you to all the men and women who serve in this great nations armed forces.Comment

Ty...cant decide to get 12 or stick with 11...how long did it take you to get the game? I have been reading the impressions over on the translation site...i loved 11...the gameplay is so far ahead of all the other games its crazy...if only more people gave it a chance. I may have to order it then take the wrath of the wife when she sees a $100 purchase! I am getting my mlb fix with 2k as the show is a good game but puts me too sleep far to many times...thanks for the replysComment

Re: An in-depth comparison of The Show and Pro Yakyuu Spirits (for anyone who cares)
Yah, sorry… didn’t know where else to post this since PYS4 is so old now. But I was at my local import Japanese store and saw the PS3 version of PYS4 in their tiny used game section for just $5. I have always been curious about PYS and this was the first time I've actually seen a PYS game for the PS3 in person so even though it was super old… I had to try it out. LOL.
I had been playing MLB 10, 11, 12, 13 (MLB ’98 is still my fav console baseball game of all-time), so I have pretty much gotten used to the MLB formula. Right off the bat though I noticed how tight the PYS4 gameplay was… everything just felt snappier (if that is even a word, lol) and more responsive… especially the batting.
When I play MLB I always use default pitching though, so the pulse pitching in PSY was fun… but also very stressful… I usually end up giving up 10 runs when I’m pitching with the 2nd, 3rd & 4th pitchers in the rotation. LOL.
Batting was also different from MLB… especially since I only use Pure Analog now since MLB11. But the batting in PYS is really exceptional… the way the ball comes blasting in the zone and the way it reacts off the bat… even the sound of the ball coming off of the bat just sounds more exciting to me. LOL.
Lastly graphics… yah… can’t compare 2007 PYS graphics with MLB13. LOL. But I love the unique baseball atmosphere… but then I’m kinda a Japanophile anyway… used to love anime and J-dramas and am still pretty much fascinated by anything Japanese. Plus, some of my fav animes are Cross Game & Major and one of my fav J-dramas is H2: Kimi no Itahibi… so I already did love how distinctly different the Japanese baseball ambience is compared to the US.
Anyway… I’m gonna play a season of PYS4 just to get the hang of things and then probably eventually upgrade to PYS ’11 later since that one seems the best bargain right now. I don’t follow Japanese Baseball so updated rosters or ballparks or teams doesn’t really mean as much to me as it should.
It is gonna be real hard for me to go back to MLB now I think though.

Anyway, I'm always happy to see new players discovering this game. I never played PYS 4, my introduction to the series was the 2010 version, so I can't really comment on the differences between PYS 4 and PYS 2011. But I do know that 2011 had some pretty significant graphical upgrades from 2010. Still not quite at the level of The Show, but the animations in PYS are where the games graphics really outshine The Show, in my opinion. Overall, 2011 was a pretty solid entry in the series, though not as polished as 2013, which is arguably the best PYS of this console generation. I know 2013 is still going for around $70 - $80, so if you're looking for a bargain, 2011 is your best bet, especially if you're planning to upgrade to a PS4 within the next year.Comment

Welcome to the world of PYS, you are going to have lots of fun!!
I would agree with Manny, if you can afford it, I would urge you to bypass PYS 2011 and go straight to the latest version PYS 2013.
This is the best version of the game and the new pitching mechanics make the game a lot more interesting, especially when you bring in those relievers in tight spots!!Comment

Re: An in-depth comparison of The Show and Pro Yakyuu Spirits (for anyone who cares)
Regarding that bit about a .200 hitter maybe hitting .350 - just how likely is that?
I mean, it could happen in real baseball as well, it would just be very unlikely/difficult to sustain.
I don't care if he wouldn't bat "exactly" .200 - he wouldn't likely in real life or even in The Show, but would it be exceptionally difficult to pull off a .350 average?
Also, about the "sacrificing some degree of statistical reality" or something of that effect - would difficulty levels change that? I'm messing around with them in Powerful Pro Yakyuu (picked it up based on the thread here) because it felt a little "Baseball Stars-ish" in that it's crazy fun, but the games were like 12-8 or something. Now, they are more like 5-4, or sometimes less (lost one recently 3-1 in the 9th...damn closer!) which is cool.
Assuming Powerful Pro is similar under the hood to PYS, I really like the system. I'm all for the physics-focus. After all, a .200 hitter is like that because of physics and his own (lack of) ability.
And yeah, defense...whew - learned fast to bring in the defense in a close game and/or keep defense at 2B/SS/CF.
Anyway, I'm looking at picking up the "big brother" of Powerful Pro Yakyuu and was curious to what some folks thought since it seems everyone in the thread has way more experience with Konami's brand of baseball.

As for how possible/likely it would be to get unrealistic batting stats, the difficulty levels you choose would have a huge impact on that. Unlike The Show, there are no sliders in PYS, per se, which makes it very easy to keep the game balanced, while adjusting the difficulty to suit your specific skill set. Do you have amazing hand-eye coordination? Bump the pitching speed up to Real. Not getting enough hits, but pitching like an ace? Increase the CPU Hitting difficulty, while bumping down either pitch speed or CPU Pitching (just don't bump it below Hard-, or you'll get too many pitches up the middle). Basically, unless you have god-like reflexes, you will find a sweet spot in difficulty and pitch speed that will net you realistic stats. If you've already played Powerful Pro, you know how the batting cursor changes in size, depending on the attributes of the player at bat. This is even more pronounced and variable in Pro Yakyuu Spirits, so all else being equal in terms of your personal skills and difficulty settings, you are going to have a much harder time making solid contact with a scrub than you will with a star player. Hope that answers your question.
As for why this thread has a "terrible" rating, I can only assume that too many The Show fans didn't like me implying that PYS is the better game.Comment

Re: An in-depth comparison of The Show and Pro Yakyuu Spirits (for anyone who cares)
Pro Yakyuu Spirits and Powerful Pro are fairly similar under the hood, but Pro Yakyuu is a bit more complex, both in terms of physics, and the various ways that a batter's cursor is affected by his attributes/special skills, as well as those of the pitcher he is facing. Also, Powerful Pro's pitching mechanics are a simplified version of Pro Yakyuu's.

Yes, it answered my question quite well - thank you!
I'll have to try finding a copy. Yeah, I won't be going to the easier pitching difficulties if only because I like trying to draw walks - and, well, can't do that if you're not getting ballsI'd probably be arguing with myself about which of the Hards I like - I see something I like in all three of them on those pitch charts at the Spirits Translation site.
Is there anything particularly different about any of the recent versions (just in case I can't get 13 without paying a mint)? Anything significantly lost in features/gameplay with, say, any version from 2010 onward?"Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment
