It's funny how so many are quick to claim that the press is "harsher" on ASB when it comes to flaws than it is with MVP. Let's break down what we've seen/heard:
Let's keep this civil fellas!
What exactly are MVP's flaws as of right now?
Here's what I gather from what I've read (here, and in previews):
-Poor collision detection
-Less accurate batting stances compared to ASB
-No player fatigue over course of a season
-Franchise mode is not as "in-depth" compared to others
-Over the top HR celebrations (Fireworks)
Now, for ASB:
-SOME quirks with Fielder cam (although many like it!)
-Still slow reaction times by fielders ("crouch" seems still there, although to less of an extent)
-Crowds still aren't as reactive as we want
-Hit Variety isn't as much as in MVP
Now, let's post some things that are unique and done well in each franchise:
MVP
-Throwing meters
-Pitching interface is very interactive
-Individual follow throughs on swings
-Player animations - best we've seen (although MLB might have something to say about that!)
-PIP Baserunning with controlled slides
-Runners hit with the ball in fair territory are declared out(!)
-Playable Minors w/ Licensing
ASB
-Most in depth Franchise includes Rule 5 and Arb.
-Slide step while pitching (LOVE that one)
-First to include "Future Throw"
-TWIB Scenarios similar to NCAA Football
-Best sig. batting and pitching stances.
-BTP/Broadcast cam is AMAZING
-Best HR collision detection
I'm sure there are others, but that's a quick list. You can see that MVP just has so many great factors that are in direct relation to GAMEPLAY (what we're always touting here at OS) that it's no wonder WHY MVP is getting the press it is. That doesn't knock ASB... it just seems like EA is offering more. ASB looks like the more realistic representation of baseball... it has things that when you WATCH IT, look like it's closer than MVP is.... but (and I'm just guessing here...) MVP is more fun to play.
Fun AND realism... isn't that all it comes down to? I'm sure there are many more having fun with MVP than ASB... without sacrificing realism. Sure, there's fireworks and all this other stuff... but from Steve's Impressions... realism isn't being sacrificed.
Ugh... while it sounds like I'm "pimping" MVP... I'm not. Just trying to give a little breakdown as to why things are being pushed the way they are.
