Re: Official Wishlist for ASB 2006

I'm wondering why some of the music snips from 2004 were taken out of 2005 (Party Up, Jump Around, A Country Boy Can Survive, Wrigley, etc.) I hope they make a return in 2006. Vengaboys has to go as the menu music (the others are okay though). Make the rosters a little more editable, I mean, let us do trades, sign F/A's without going on franchise mode, it'd make things a lot easier.

      More on TWIB

OPTIONS OPTIONS OPTIONS - why do I not have the same setup options in TWIB as the rest of the game. Even online I can pick CLASSIC BASERUNNING but in TWIB I cannot. I cannot turn the strike zone off if I use zone hitting (Veteran), etc. I can see wanting to keep the user from playing on Rookie with all the aids turned on but at least give me access to the options that do not affect how easy the game is. Turning off strike zone/batting help or switching baserunning or cameras should not be something that is locked since those would only make the gameplay more difficult.

REPLAY - how many TWIB scenarios are 'last at bat' or 'make the catch' kind of things which take about 10 seconds to play. If you fail one of these you are forced to LOAD the menu screen, click through half dozen selections again and reload the game and then wait for the announcers to say 'welcome back blah blah blah'. That stuff takes about 5 times the amount of time some of the challenges themselves take. At the end of your challenge give people the options to QUIT OR RETRY. Even if the retry has to go through the 'load' screen again (which I don't see why it would since all the stuff should be loaded to the memory) it is still be faster than going through all of the menus again.

To me all this little stuff outside of the game is what needs a LOT of work. Sure, the gameplay needs some minor tweaking (and I am probably least qualified to help with that) but if the amount of detail that is given to the gameplay alread was given to the menus and presentation then you would be the best baseball game in town.

I like the relocation ideas as well.

Also, we need Old Comiskey Park in there somwhere.

I wish you could do instant replays during home run derby. When the collision detection works, it looks good, but sometimes the camera misses the end of the flight of the ball. The camera angles defintely need a little tweak. If anyone has noticed, the collision detection in the buildings across the street from Wrigley is non existant. And in Forbes, the ball goes right through the RF roof. And in various other parks, it sucks when the ball goes right the the stands onto the ground and the camera goes right through as well, showing just the gray background. Minor problems in the big picture, but it would be cool if they all got fixed. All in all, I still love the game!

Re: Official Wishlist for ASB 2006

I have already posted once, but this game produces such a great baseball feel, and it has so much potential, that I am posting again.

                  1. Acclaim must fix the crouch, vacuum catches and 90 degree bounces once and for all. Stuff like that was no big deal 5 years ago, but today it just doesn't fly. It is a bad first impression and likely turning away newcomers to the series.

                  2. Batting. There are some nice alternatives in '05, but each seems to have some problems. They are either too hard, too easy or no variety of hits. There needs to be a better way to bring in newbies with intermediate skills, because they don't have patience for 100 hours of BP.

                  3. Other threads offer details, but baserunning and fielding cause great aggrevation to newbies. The missed tags is another thing that just looks sloppy.

I know features and extras are important, and I like them myself. But the fundamentals need to be addressed. ASB was my choice this year, but I really can't complain about those who don't like ASB because they can't get past the obvious flaws that I just mentioned.

                        2. more and better stat tracking.

                        3. scoreboard & stadium animations.

                        4. weather affect gameplay.(wind indicator arrow moving fielding circle). High heat had this down to a science.

                        5. fix the reliever staima bug that I have encountered after I restart a saved game in the National league. When I restart A game the relievers staima is back to 100% reguardless of how many innings he has pitched in the game.

3 improvements that would entice me to buy the next ASB game.

                              1. Batting. Zone batting especially needs tweaking. A late swing should (more times than not) mean opposite field contact and an early swing should mean a pulled hit. All other baseball games (ESPN, MVP, High Heat) have this area of the game locked down. No excuse for being able to hit a ball out of the catcher's mitt or not being able to hit down the foul line.

                              2. Fielding. There are a ton of glitches in ASB05. Most notable: baserunning AI; vacuum effect is still there; weird ball physics near fielders; slow mo-caps resulting in a ton of infield hits.

                              3. Replays and camera angles. Custom replays are a must in this game since it's all about aesthetics. ASB puts so much detail into its stadiums, it's a shame we can't appreciate them at more than the handful of camera angles. How about custom camera replay angles? How about custom pitcher/batter views?
