Re: "game informer" tidbit from 2k sports forum.
When the disc is maxed out it comes down to the most logical financial decision. Apparently it's cheaper to put the extra content on live for FREE download then to print and ship an extra disc with every copy. I am sure 2k did the math.
They could have said "Oh well it won't fit so we just can't provide it at all." Then they would have had to cut it from the PS3 already because even though it would fit 360 users(and MS) would have a fit that PS3 users got more for their money.
I have one 360 attached to the internet(mine) and one that isn't(my son's) so I will have to put some effort into getting everything on both. Making that effort is better than not having it all.
I am thankful 2k is providing it and I hope they provide the game play we are all looking for.Comment

Bah! Too nice a reply. We don't do nice here. We thrive on hostility!

Re: "game informer" tidbit from 2k sports forum.
Very true...but at the sametime I wanted to communicate that it is unfair to ask a company who is working with limited disk space to spend MORE money because M$ chose to go with an older format....im all for M$ but thats the dumbest thing they did and 2K is working with what they got...and what they got is an excellent online service (XBL) that allows them to add things after shipping something...for FREE none the less....Comment

If 2K5 World Series Edition can offer a second disk filled with World Series Great Moments and still make a profit, there's no reason they can't offer the complete 2K8 game on two disks or include a phone number you can call to order ( no charge )the 2nd disk if you can't download the content...

These extra things (3 minor league stadiums and some alt uniforms) just BARELY didn't fit on the the disc. They are small, quick downloads. It would be sorta silly to make an entire 2nd dics for what probably adds up to about 100 MB - if that.
90% of users won't miss this content at all. I wonder if they'll make it attainable through some other means, but I doubt it. It's not essential to the game. I understand being peeved about it if you dont have XBL, but you must know somewhere you can plug an ethernet cable into your system. Or someone with a 360 on Live where you can just swap in your HD for 10 minutes to DL it. And even if you don't, its not content you're likely to miss too much.Comment

Re: "game informer" tidbit from 2k sports forum.
Here's another example: You go into a computer store to buy a program - say, Norton. You flip the box over and read: Unfortunately, we could not fit all of Norton's Anti-virus content onto the one disk in this box. Upon purchase, please visit Norton.com to download the remainer of the program. And I'm not talking about upgrades, which are normal for many PC programs and video games.
Imagine how long a company would stay in business if they did that. And none of them do. And the word cheapskates comes to mind now for some reason...
I said it before that I understand where you're coming from but I still don't see the relation to Norton and this game.
Norton isn't going to have a file that takes up so much space that it wouldn't fit. It's likely a compressed file that will then need to be extracted onto your harddrive. We don't have that luxery with a console game.
I guess I'm trying to understand something.
Are you upset because they didn't fit the content in one disc or because they don't make the extra content available on a second disc?
At first, I thought you were upset that the content didn't fit in one disc and your comment about Norton seemed to confirm that for me. But now, your latest comments seem to indicate that you're upset that the extra data isn't available on a second disc. I'm trying to understand your point.
In my honest opinion, I find it silly (and I don't mean to be confrontational) to be upset that the content didn't fit in one disc. There's nothing a company can do to solve that issue. I wouldn't be upset because Warner Bros. couldn't fit the Special Features as well as the Feature Presentation into one disc for their hit movie. I understand that it just doesn't fit.
Actually, that might be a better analogy. Imagine buying a movie and being told that the special features - something that isn't necessary but perhaps a small population of people want (sorta like extra jerseys and retro stadiums) must be downloaded online. Yea, that would bother me. So, if that's the case then yea I get you.
Though, that doesn't mean I'm personally going to be upset about it. I also understand that if there's already a means to provide that content online where it costs the consumer AND the publisher nothing then they'll take that direction over providing content on a another costly disc.Last edited by CMH; 02-20-2008, 01:16 PM. Reason: I said it would piss me off when it really would just bother me."It may well be that we spectators, who are not divinely gifted as athletes, are the only ones able to truly see, articulate and animate the experience of the gift we are denied. And that those who receive and act out the gift of athletic genius must, perforce, be blind and dumb about it -- and not because blindness and dumbness are the price of the gift, but because they are its essence." - David Foster Wallace

I'm not even sure if I should comment because I feel like I'll just be labeled a 2k-follower.

Re: "game informer" tidbit from 2k sports forum.
This has been addressed a few times, and not just by me. 2K, put out a disk and make it available to any who phones and requests a copy. If they can't do that much, then that's crazy.Comment
