College Hoops...Disbanded because of lack of sales. Despite being the best basketball title on the market IMO.

Pared, I was raised with a strong foundation of ethics and integrity. I wouldn't be where I am today with a fine organization like the Quakes if I hadn't been raised that way. I do not wish for people to get fired at all so I think you went overboard with that last part of your comment.

Certainly wasn't referring to you. People lost their job, and it was the development team out of Kush. Wishing it however, lends credence to your character.

Well, sometimes we can't see the forest for the trees. I find it odd that after testing and testing, and reworking etc... it takes a couple of regular guys on a video game forum all of 5 hours to realize that the IE of which 2k is so proud of, is disconnected from the actual gameplay.

Now the great thing about this is that if I have my programming right, and the Living Rosters will actually update the IE effects for the players, the Walk Tendency grades for the players can be fixed in one fell swoop. And I think it is a fairly easy fix.

Now, if the rating somehow does not translate between the Roster edits and the IE, and therefore has nothing to do with the actual tendencies at all... which then means that no matter the edits made, the game does not actually cause the players to change their IE trends... well now we have some issues.

So, the quick question on everyone's mind (mine anyway) is this. If 2k actually mapped the style of play to reflect the supposedly accurate stats that they have marketed as "Cutting Edge", then will a simple broadstroke roster edit and re-scoring of the Walk Tendency portion of each player to match their true score fix the game?

And, if we edit this attribute, will the IE recognize the edit?

Simple enough?

You are honestly going to tell me that College Hoops in the end wasn't discontinued because of lack of sales. If the sales and revenues were there College Hoops 2K9 would be made. They would have bought the necessary licenses and produced that game.

If Choop2k went down because of sales, i would imagine EA's Choop would go down before them.

Those sales numbers were weak. Just because 2k had higher sales numbers per that report doesn't mean its profitable.

If you are so into logic then show me where discontinuing the College Hoops Series was not a monetary/business decision. If there was money to be made doing it after all applicable expenses, they'd be doing it.

Whatever expenses, including licensing, exclusive contracts, etc. that 2k would have had to shell out for to produce the game in the future wouldn't have been cost effective or they'd be doing it. Its really that simple.

I would love to see you use your "facts" to support that not producing College Hoops had nothing to do with Revenues or expected rates of return on their capital.

But I will agree with you that this is an MLB thread so with that, I am done too.

Good points. My concern is exactly what I bolded. I honestly don't know. It sure seems like IE is the end-all-be-all and overrides any attribute edits you can make...at least in terms of AI play.

What I mean is it seems the ratings have no tie-in to tendency, only pure ability. So a guy's rating for walks will never have an effect, it will be IE dictating it.

The trouble with that is, IE and the attribute ratings don't seem to be working in tandem. What changes you makes in rating, don't seem to significantly change IE.

Hpefully it's just broken...because if not, and it was a design decision, then that might not be such an easy fix after all.

Inside Edge does not work as it should right now. But if Visual Concepts can get it working, the results could be terrific. I'm excited to see how much the patch fixes.

lets not lose sight of the other big issue, it is not just aggressiveness, it is foul balls , or not enough of them, the CPu makes way too much solid contact hitting line drvies way too often, meaning a real pitcher/batter duel is almost non-existent in this game, I do not mean 3-2 counts because you decided to throw 3 balls, I mean a real battle where the CPU takes a few pitches then fouls a few off, this is almost non existent in the game. This happens all the time in baseball, in this game pitch counts are absurd, there needs to be less aggression and less guaranteed solid contact.

True. I went through some of the IE reports the other night and there is a wealth of information. Aggressiveness for individual pitch counts, situational base stealing tendencies, etc would provide tremendous individuality and gameplay depth IF they are implemented properly.

For example, I know as a [long-suffering] Pirates fan that Nate McLouth likes to take the first pitch. Sure enough, his aggressiveness is correctly noted as being quite low in 0-0 counts. But for that to mean anything, that has to cross over to the gameplay. Why it isn't now is anyone's guess, but it sure seems like there is some sort of disconnect between IE, sliders, ratings and what actually happens 'on the field'...

Great point. More foul balls when fighting off tough pitches -- as opposed to a weak hit into play or even worse, solid contact -- adds to the pitcher/batter duel and would greatly enhance gameplay. Who can't remember an AB where the hitter has two strikes, fouls off 6 or 7 pitches before finally getting the clutch hit or succumbing to a well-executed pitch? One of the more dramatic situations in baseball, but not likely to happen in this game...
