Make sure you turn on the release timing affect in the controls menu (under options). Assuming you are using total control pitching, this option (name may be different, I am not looking at the screen) affects the control of the pitch in conjunction with sliders, for the human player.

On the PC version it is default "OFF", and my first game was pretty easy even with ALL-Star level sliders, I could place every pitch with precision. I read some info here and found where I could turn it "ON" and I started throwing some pretty wild pitches when I messed up the right analog stick on a pitch, particularly breaking pitches.

After getting this setting right and with strike zone off I actually walked a couple of CPU batters and had a decent pitch count considering the hit count was low (75 pitches in 6 innings, 2 walks, 5 hits).

i think I suck at this method because I can't get strikeouts for anything pitching this way. I was unable to pinpoint pitches like before though just no kos this way and cpu took less strikes with 3 step than 2 step. I think its just because you can't place ball on corner as easy. funny think is I got good with 3 step last year and this year I suck at it

A mod over at 2K says he has "been told" that the VC devs have been working on the AI Aggression, so let's hope they get to the bottom of it soon.

This is always the tricky part in development. Fixing something without screwing something else up. Let's hope 2K/VC does an all-out test to make sure everything is working correctly before the fix get's to the community

Good news about an attempt to fix this stuff. My only worry is that they'll overshoot the fix and the CPU will stand there and watch the digital grass not grow while I ring 'em up looking over, and over, and over...

Oh well. At least they're trying. Hopefully next year (I literally physically cringed while typing the "wait til next year" mantra...lol) they'll add back in the sliders that help in these regards.

No matter what they do SOMEONE will be ticked, which is why the sliders (functioning, of course) are so important.

I really hope they can get it fixed w/o screwing it up. Maybe there's a way to put the slider back in.

As an aside, I love seeing all of the "the Show 09" ads floating around this site. "Just another detail in the most realistic baseball game ever." They should do something similar for 2k9.

We'll know soon enough.

I imagine a patch will be released either at the end of this month, or at the beginning of next. Microsoft has a strict, 2 patch limit. MLB 2K9 already has one; Visual Concepts needs to get this one right.

Wow, I didn't realize MS had a 2-patch limit. Seems kind of dumb. Not that we should encourage half-a$$ed products, but at the same time, if something could continue to be improved after release, why shouldn't it be allowed?

Well, the good news (maybe) is that I think this issue may be able to be adjusted within the Roster Update, as opposed to a patch.

So, assuming that the IE actually is programmed to follow the tendencies they are touting they have researched, a simple

*** For X (being the walk grade)= A,B,C,D,E + whatever adjustment they make in a blanket For-Then program

programming adjustment, and they should be able to score the grades for Walk Tendencies according to the numeric score that is given to each player....

ahhh... but herein lies the issue that might rear its ugly head. If the score of the Walk Tendency is not tied into the stats, and the IE turns out to be frosting on the cake that is not meant to be eaten, there is going to be an issue.

So, question being, is the Inside Edge actually broken, in that the link to information to player from edits-ratings-etc... is just merely disconnected? Or were they ever actually connected from the get go?

The latter would be very disappointing.

I mean, IE could very well just be its own thing with its own set of stats. It seems to be that. If you look at the IE information for all the batters in the main menu, you actually see a nice list of their aggression ratings based on pitch count. Maybe this has something to do with it (assuming it works).

Yes, but if you edit the Roster, and give someone a 100 rating for "Draw Walks Tendency", and then check the IE when they are up to bat, and you see they have a D- score for Drawing Walks.... there is where something is not matching up.

two patch limit?

is this definitely true? because I know this patch is not gonna be a magical cure all, and we cant control the AI swinging...I'd hate for the aggressiveness to better but the curveball still unhittable, or some other AI hitting quirk. its a delicate balance and the odds of nailing it on the first try...makes me nervous..

For me the AI cannot hit anything. I play on All-star and I can throw shutout's with Mark Hendrikson and Matt ALbers all day long. I heard people say they get hit hard by the AI but I have the opposite affect. They cannot hit me at all.

I just play on All star default settings and I throw at the corners and mix in offspeed pitches
