i find that the cpu gets too many hits with JBH's sliders (not to knock them haha). Try lowering each of the major batting sliders - power, contact, and success. i lowered them til i started getting more realistic hit numbers/runs.

      Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

      Oh yeah - update.

Lost the final game of the series to the Astros 13-3 (this is the game I was down 6-1.) Yeah... I got crapped on in the later innings. Manny Corpas surrendered 7 runs without getting an out (I didnt want to empty my bullpen.)

Started off a 4 game set in St. Louis then. Simmed the 1st two games and won 1 and lost 1 (cant recall scores at the moment.) Played the 3rd game, which was Pelfrey's first start with the team. He went 5 innings pitched, allowing 5 runs (all earned) on 8 hits. Yeah, not the best start. The biggest blow was a 3-run homerun off the bat of Khalil Greene in the B5th, which made the game 5-4. I still came back and won though - knocking in runs off the relief pitchers they sent at me. Final score was 9-6, with Street getting the save and Pelfrey with his first win (he was the pitcher of record when I took the lead in the T6th.)

In the middle of a game now, T6th and losing 2-1. Cook started for me and has been impressive, striking out 6 through 5 innings. Their 2 runs came on a 2-run homerun that Ankiel hit in the 1st. Joel Pinero started for them.. and despite allowing only 1 run, he allowed 7 hits and was pulled after 5 innings.

So far, my favorite starters to use in order:

      1. Ubajo Jimenez - Upper 90s fastball with a devastating slider and great power curve. I have something like 70 strikeouts with him through 70 innings. I give up farr to many hits with him though.

      2. Aaron Cook - Great 2SFB and a 12-6 curve that the CPU misses 95% of the time. Probably my most effective pitcher when I use him.

      3. Jason Marquis - Despite being horrible in simmed games, I do well with him. Most of his pitches are ranked 65 or higher, and hes got a real nice low 90s fastball. He can hit too.

      4. Greg Smith - I dont hate using him.. hes just not as much fun as the other guys. Average fastball but good offspead stuff. In simmed games he tends to allow less than 3 or 4 hits but walk like 7 or 8 batters. Hes like top 10 in the league in walks allowed.

      5. Jeff Francis/Mike Pelfrey - HATED using Francis, which is partly the reason I traded him. Low 80s fastball plus a Slurve (a pitch I dont like to use) that got hit alot. Plus his slider, a pitch I consider very effective with most pitchers, was ranked a 41. Pelfrey seems to have a devastating sinker and a good fastball, but not much else. Time will tell if I enjoy using him or not.

Not to knock your pitching, but you guys may be leaving to many pitches in the zone. I like to nibble at the corners when pitching, and tend to give up less hits like that.

        ================================================

With that said however...Finished my 6 gm hm stand, and 1st series of September losing 1 games to 2 to the upstart Giants; currently SF leads the NL West and Arizona is vastly ahead in the Wildcard.

San Fran got 4 runs off Kyle Kendrick on 8 hits, and that was all they needed as Jonathan Sanchez held me to 3 hits and 1 run (coming from a Mike Cameron solo HR). Next game would be Andrew Carpenter's MLB Debut, which didn't go over so well as he gave up 6 runs over 5 innings, and the Giants routed me 13-2 on 19 hits - 5 2bs, 2 3bs, and 3 HRs - yea they completely killed me.

The only pitcher that DID NOT give up a run was newly signed FA RP Todd Jones; who pitched a scoreless/hitless 6th inning.

With a sweep in sight San Fran was sending out Tim Lincecum (10-10) for the final game of the series. However, last time Philly met up w/ Timmy in July he was roughed up, and it would be no different this time around...After Brett Myers surrendered a run on 3 hits SF was leading 1-0, but Lincecum would surrender 2 allowing PHI to take the lead in a 39 pitch 1st inning. Philly would pile 3 more runs onto Lincecum (2 earned), and add another 2 when Odalis Perez came on in relief (I released him, and SF jumped on and signed him). Brett Myers was pretty much cruising through this one, he did run into a bases loaded two out jam in the T6th but was able to get out of it w/ a timely K of Edgar Renteria. SF would get one more run off of Myers, who would finish this game out for his 7th CG of the year - and a much needed one seeing as SF got to our bullpen in the first 2 games.

        Myers' Line = 9IP 10H 2ER 1BB 7K

Jimmy Rollins was 1/4 w/ 2runs, rbi, BB, SB

Avoiding the 3 gm sweep of SF, the Phillies improved to 72-60, and still maintain a 4gm lead in the NL East. The Mets only way of getting into the postseason is knocking me off atop the NL East as they have likely no chance of catching 'Zona for the wildcard.

I now embark on a 7gm road series netting 4 games in Houston (who has become #1 in the NL Central), and 3 gms in Washington. After this 7 gm series we will finish the season series finale w/ the Mets as part of a 6gm homestand.

September is SOOOO much fun!

I pitch to the corners too, it has nothing to do with that. It's not like we're throwing fastballs down the middle...I gave up 18 hits, some of which weren't even in the strike zone...

Thanks, i didn't want to change the sliders, i just needed more pitching tips since i just bought the game, i think i need to throw more balls, and nibble at the corners because last game i had a 40:2 ball strike ratio in the 3rd with my starter

              Nationals Update

I won my first game of the year, and was it sweet.

Dontrelle Willis gave me 6 1/3 strong, and when he left i had a 3-2 lead (Marlins had bases loaded in the first, but i got Uggla to ground into an inning ending DP, D-Train was on fire from then on)

On Jesus Colome's first pitch of the game, Hanley Ramirez takes him yard to left (No more W for D-Train)

3-3 in the top ninth, i get runners on second and third, and pinch hit for my pitcher with Josh Willingham, he hits one off the wall in left to score 2 runs

Hanrahan came on to close the game out in the ninth inning.

              WAS - 5 - 12 - 0
              FLA - 3 - 11 - 1

              Dontrelle - 6.1 IP, 9 hits, 7 K's
              Lastings - 2-4, 2 singles, RBI

I got a series with Atlanta coming up, im currently 1-2.

I am 4-3 with the Mets and am currently tied 4-4 in the 11th inning vs. the Brewers, this has been my best game so far, a back and forth battle that I hope to pull out tonight and get the win.

                  Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

Played one game last night, series opener @ HOU - which starts a 7gm road series for me.

Man did I crush them...I wish I could face Brian Moehler every game, AND the Houston bullpen. Ironically the only Houston pitcher to hold me scoreless was Geoff Geary for 2.1 innings of relief after Moehler was pulled after 2.1 innings of batting practice .

The game begun w/ a lead-off double by Rollins. Tad Iguchi would K, but Raul "The Bat" Ibanez sent a scorcher into LF for a 2r HR. Ryan Howard would follow w/ a solo shot, and I'd end the inning w/ a 3-0 lead. Sent out Jamie Moyer to the bump, and after retiring the first two batters - Bourn and Pence. Carlos Lee doubled, Lance Berkman doubled, Miguel Tejada singled, and Pudge doubled and Houston tied it right back up 3-3; would end the first tied up.

Moyer would settle down after that, and the three runs Houston got in the first would be all they could muster as I went on to win 10-3 on the strength of 4 2Bs and 7 HRs (a total of 15 hits):

-Ibanez 2r HR (#12 for the yr)
                  -Howard 2 solo HRs one 2r HR (#'s 41, 42, & 43)
                  -J-Roll 2r HR (# 13 for the yr)
-Cameron solo HR (#21 for the yr between MIL/PHI)
-Victorino solo HR (#11 for the yr)

Quite a day at the plate for my guys, and you'd think that 7 HRs by a team would be close to a record. However, as it stands on Baseball Almanac, the most in a game to date in the NL is 9 (Accomplished by Cincy vs Philly in 1999).

Im finding I like your sliders again.. haha. I was just mostly annoyed throughout the Houston series because I would be throwing purposely off the plate.. and theyd still hit doubles into the gaps. Im a HS pitcher, so I know how to pitch, and I follow baseball alot. Those hits into the gap on sliders wayyyy off the plate just annoy me though. Or changeups getting smashed for homeruns that are practically in the dirt.

Im just curious, what are your User batting settings for contact, power, and success, and your AI batting settings for the same ones.

Btw, took 3 of 4 from St. Louis. That game I was losing 2-1.. needless to say I came back and made it 9-3 in 2 innings for a final score. Clint Barmes hit his 6th shot of the year, a 3-run bomb in the T6th to right center.

I start a 3 game set in Milwaukee now, ending my long NL Central road trip. Jimenez is pitching . Going to try and make his record even at 5-5. After that, I host both the Mariners and then the Rays for some nice interleague action

AL West - Mariners/Angels/Rangers are all in a really tight race. That should be fun to watch.

NL East - WASHINGTON NATIONALS! Seriously, theyre in first over the Phillies by like 4 games. Mets are in dead last lol.

NL Central - Brewers and Cards are tied for the lead in this division. Astros and Pirates are in last.

NL West - I am 32-24 as Col, and have a 1 game lead over the Padres at the moment. Diamondbacks and Giants are tied for last.

Just lost 5-3 first game against the Brew Crew...

I felt real good using Jimenez, but once again, I got lit up a bit. In the B3rd Braun CRANKED a 2-run shot off a 98 MPH high and tight fastball, and from there I just got depressed. Jimenez went 5 innings, allowed 4 runs on 7 hits, walked none and struck out 4.

Sigh... I wish I could pitch with him.

I had 4 hits through 7 innings off of Dave Bush, but I broke through with 3 runs in the 8th which made it 4-3. However, Rusch gave up a run in the B8th, thanks largely in part to Rickie Weeks (who had also homered back in the B4th) doubling into the gap and scoring two plays later.

I also wish we could play Double AA games. Two of my 3 top prospects are there (with the other being Dexter Fowler) and I wanna check them out.

                          P - Carl West and 1B - Perry Sharp

Im finding I like your sliders again.. haha. I was just mostly annoyed throughout the Houston series because I would be throwing purposely off the plate.. and theyd still hit doubles into the gaps. Im a HS pitcher, so I know how to pitch, and I follow baseball alot. Those hits into the gap on sliders wayyyy off the plate just annoy me though. Or changeups getting smashed for homeruns that are practically in the dirt.

Im just curious, what are your User batting settings for contact, power, and success, and your AI batting settings for the same ones.
They're all posted on my slider thread in the sliders forum.

AL East - Yankees are tearing it up. Im a Yankees fan so I kinda hope I dont face them in the WS or something (assuming I make it there :/)

AL Central - Twins are running away with it. 2nd best record in baseball besides Yankees.

Wow. Your division standings are almost a polar opposite of mine, as of the end of August in season 1 of my 'chise.

The AL East is one of the worst divisions in the league in my 'chise w/ Boston being the only team over .500 w/ I think 69 wins heading into September (69-64 I believe).

The AL Central has every team over .500 except KC.

The AL West has Texas leading w/ LAA still in contention, but SEA and OAK very much out.

                                In the NL...

My Phillies are on top of the NL East w/ a 4.0 gm lead over the Braves, w/ NYM being 4.5 gms back. Washington is a few games under .500, and the Marlins are the worst in the dvision.

In the NL Central Pittsburgh was very much in front for most of the season, but since the ASB Houston has been playing over .500 ball and now sits atop the NL Cent. MIL is way behind in last place, and STL is right around .500 w/ the only teams really able to move up and overthrow HOU being Pitt still and possibly Cincy.

In the NL West SF leads it, and 'Zona is only a few games back. I think that SF has the best record in the NL (Randy Winn is having a season like Hanley Ramirez, Frank Thomas is their 1B and hitting very good, and Fred Lewis is hitting over .300 w/ 30+ SBs - meanwhile Rowand and Renteria and others are all playing well above thier real-life counterparts). The Dodgers are still w/in reach of the Wild-card or Div. title, but will need a HUGE final month to get into the postseason. COL is around .500 give or take a few games, but out of playoff contention. SD is the 2nd worst team in baseball behind KC.
