      Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

9-5 so far, just came off a 4-3 victory against the Cardinals. Fred Lewis 2-4 with a triple, single and 2 RBI's as lead off. Sanchez 6 IP, 8K's, 7hits.

My team still needs bats/homeruns and Willingham hasn't been hot so far since the trade coming off the injury but he'll turn it around. But we are playing much better right now with a 3 game winning streak and 1.5GB of 1st on the Dodgers.

        --------------------------------------------------------------

Man...played one last night that still stings.

It was the 2nd gm of a 3gm road series w/ Tampa, having already won gm1.

Hamels took the ball in this one, and got a run in the 1st and a run in the 2nd:

-T1st coming after Victorino singled, which after an OF bobble he stretched to a double, then was moved to third by Utley, and then singled in by Howard.

-T2nd after Werth hit a solo shot to left-center.

Hamels was in command on the mound through 3 innings, striking out 6. Then in the B4th Tampa Bay tied it up at two, but Philly got right back out by 2 in the T5th after Jayson Werth homered again, this time w/ a runner on to take a 4-2 lead.

In the bottom of the 5th the wheels came off...

Some bad defense led to a bases loaded ZERO outs jam which allowed TB to tie it up again at 4-4. Then Hamels was able to get 2 outs on a K, and shallow fly ball...BUT newly acquired free agent Geoff Jenkins put the finishing touches on the inning taking Hamels deep for a granny...8-4 Rays.

On that Geoff Jenkins grand slam, that was almost robbed, Jayson Werth banged up against the wall and left w/ an injury. The next batter Hamels faced he left w/ a shoulder injury.

THE INJURY BUG FINALLY BIT ME!

After losing 12-4 I was prompted at the main screen that Hamels would be out 8 days...whew!

But Werth...His season is over. Broken wrist, out 136 days, placed on the 60 day DL. He was having a great season too hitting in the low .300's, and I had just had a multi-HR day w/ him to give him 9 total on the year thru June 24th.

I called up util. man Miguel Cairo, and inserted Matt Stairs into the everyday lineup...who will platoon some w/ Gregg Dobbs, and Cairo can come in as a defensive replacement in late-close games.

I did peak at the trading block to see what corner outfielders were available.

Texas has Nelson Curz on there, who is decent w/ the glove, and has a strong bat vs lefties. Texas is in 1st place though so I wouldn't want to tinker w/ their lineup, it is enticing though.

Since I control KC I could move Jose Guillen. He's got a rather large contract, and KC is going nowhere at 30-46 after June. Problem is I want it to be fair, and Philly has nothing in the minor leagues. My only top 100 prospect is SP Carlos Carrasco. Should I move him? What would be fair?

Hey! I restarted my 'chise. I am currently 3-4, using JBH's sliders with a twist of my own to give me some amazing games. But anyways, I started off 1-4, but have won back to back against Rockies(3-2) and smashed the Nats(11-4). My pitching has been solid, but I wanted to upgrade my bullpen. I signed Chuck James to be one of the long relievers. He is basically J.A Happ, but Happ in this game has piss poor stats, so I needed someone who wasn't a liability. Also, I am on the edge with Condrey, I like him, but if I can improve my team, why not? So the Marlins has Volstad sitting on the trading block. I like the guy, has great stuff. So I offer, and they accept. I trade Woods(AAA), Kendrick(AAA), and another minor leaguer for Volstad and another minor leaguer.

He is currently a long reliever in my bullpen. So I upgraded my position by adding James and Volstad.

You could call up John Mayberry Jr? Guy has potential and to get him PT is always a plus, but there is always trying to trade for a good player on a bad team. Look to the Padres for Brian Giles maybe? Trade for Josh Willingham from the Nats? They have a surplus of good OFs. Teahan from KC?

Ronny...you're funny man. You make these trades, then feel bad, and then trade back for the player.

If I was to make another trade in my Franchise (For a RF'er to replace the out-for-the-season Werth), I'd probably have to include Kendrick since he's my only young/tradeable pitcher.

                        Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

I'm doing one with the Nationals.

                        Here is my current lineup.

                        SS Bartlett
                        CF Milledge
                        LF Dunn
                        2B Uggla (from the 'fins)
                        RF Elijiah Dukes
                        1B Johnson
3B Zimmerman (i struggle with him)
C Teagarden (got him from the Rangers)
P whoever the **** is pitching.

                        Rotation
                        Olsen 79
                        Buchholz 78
                        Andrew Miller 79
Zito(don't know his name in real life) 75
                        Brandon McCarthy 75

so their ages are...25, 24, 24, 23, and 25. I was thinking about picking up a veteran free agent (Perez, lol) but I don't know if having a veteran really matters on this game. I picked up Wheeler from the Rays to be my closer. I signed Chuck James recently to be my setup guy...and I have Beimel, Rivera, and Bergmann as my Middle Relievers and then Balester (22 yr old, 72...a starter) and Kip Wells as my LR's. I'm nor sure what I am going to do with Balester. I do have him under contract for 3 yrs at 320K...which will be damn good for my team...but maybe if I move him down to AAA and he starts there...he will have his ratings and potential increase more than if I leave him as a long reliever? I'm not really sure how that works.

I traded Cabrera, who is a 78 and 72 rated Jesus Colome (AAA) for Buccholz. I think it's not a horrible ripoff. Cabrera is still young as well.

My big deal was the one for Uggla. I traded Guzman, Hanrahan (my closer, who I could not stand) yet is rated an 81, and Lannan (who is a 78 rated, 24 year old)for Uggla and Andrew Miller. I wanted to demolish my team and bring in new guys...but didn't want to do cheap trades..so I made a few pretty even trades, IMO.

I traded with the Rangers early on. I traded Belliard and Austin Kearns for McCarthy and Teagarden. I'm very happy with that trade and it worked out for them as well.

I have played 14 games...and I am 25-25. My division is very good though. My series with the Phillies is very competitive.

                          Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

Just an FYI..."Zito" is Jordan Zimmermann, a rookie who I went to school with at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point. He won his first career start last week for the Nats. Hell of a pitcher.

I just wanted to chime in also with a big Franchise stat issue that popped up for me as my first season progressed.

I am doing a two-team Franchise with the Chicago Cubs and Seattle Mariners.

After reaching May 4th in the Franchise, I decided to take a peek at the league leaders under the MLB.com menu. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until I sorted the leaders by home runs.

Ten (count 'em, 10) players had the EXACT SAME STAT LINE. Now, you would say, it could be just a weird coincidence. But it's definitely more than that. Here are the players that had the same stats:

                          Tony Clark
Joey Gathright (on user team, Cubs)
Mike Sweeny (on user team, M's)
                          Rich Aurilia
                          Eric Hinske
                          Eugenio Velez
                          Curtis Thigpen
                          Miguel Montero
Justin Duchscherer (pitcher on AL team, A's)
Gio Gonzalez (pitcher on AL team, A's)

If that isn't odd enough for you, here are what the stats look like. Remember, this is on MAY 4TH!

                          Games played: 331
                          At Bats: 1108
                          Hits: 286
                          Home Runs: 25
                          RBI: 139
                          Batting AVG.: .258

All other stats (fielding %, stolen bases, etc.) were also all exactly the same. Sabermetrics also reflected these odd statistics.

I thought, "OK, this is just a weird thing that will fix itself."

                          Yeah, right.

I simmed to Sept. to see the stats, and all 10 players were still the same. They had 40 HR and 205 RBI.

This also factored into awards, as Sweeny won both the AL MVP and Comeback Player of the Year. Montero won the NL MVP award.

Very strange and also very irritating.

10-5, playing a 104 gm schedule with the mets.

Delgado and wright are goign bonkers, they have 9 and 6 homers respectively.

K-rod has converted 6 out of 7 save opportunites and has an ERA under 2.00

Livian Hernandez absolutely sucks. Gave up 7 runs in 4 innings to the phillies in is last start.

For some reason, I cant pitch at all with Putz. He has a 6.5 ERA, but has lucked his way into 3 wins lol.

                            Santana: Nails
                            Maine: decent
Perez: 22 K's in 17 innings but has an ERA of 5 lol

I'm thinking of signing Pedro if he is still out there.

I am playing with the rays. Burell, Pena, and Longoria are doing great. I am nearing the end of june, and playing every game. I just can't seem to hit homers with anybody other than my BIG three.

Garza and Kazmir have era's in the mid 2's. Shields in the mid 3's. Sonnanstine and Price in the mid 4's.

I am liking how things are playing out. Just need to get more power from the rest of my lineup. Any suggestions. I am afraid to boost my hitting sliders cuz my big guys are already hitting good.

If I was to make another trade in my Franchise (For a RF'er to replace the out-for-the-season Werth), I'd probably have to include Kendrick since he's my only young/tradeable pitcher.
I just lost Lidge for 30 days with a major concussion. Brought up Tashner and made Madson the closer.

I know, I would not be such a great GM!

Kendrick would get your back someone decent for sure, with is rating in the mid 70s.
