    Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

Wrapped up the last series w/ the Mets before the All-Star break.

Lost gm1 in a 3-2 loss, then slugged my way to a win in gm 2 10-4, and the gm last night .....

I was up 3-0 heading into the 6th, Hamels had only allowed 2 hits through 5 innings K'ing 3, and then the Mets just exploded on me.

Next thing I know they've got the bases loaded w/ 0 outs, and David Wright coming up to bat. A healthy dose of curveballs, and 5 pitches later Wright is sat down on strikes. Delgado comes up next, and I quickly get him down 1-2. Then I throw a back-door slider which he cues off the bat for a bases clearing double that rolls to the wall. Then Beltran knocked in Delgado, and I retire the next two batters but the damage was done.

After that one inning I lose my 3-0 lead and the Mets go up 4-3.

They'd add another run in the 7th off JC Romero to push it to 5-3. In the 8th I had the bases loaded w/ 2 outs, but Jimmy Rollins struck out looking on a spiltter by JJ Putz which I still say was a ball . B9th Mets bring int K-Rod... I was able to get Ibanez on base, but both Utley and Howard flied out.

Matt Stairs (taking over as the everday RF for the out-for-the-yr Jayson Werth) doubled to bring the score to 5-4. Stairs got pulled for PR Eric Bruntlett, and then K-Rod tried to pick him off and the throw went sailing into CF. Now I'm w/ 2 outs and a man on 3rd, a singles ties the game, but the Flying Hawaiian strikes out swinging on one of those nasty K-Rod sliders. Another series lost to the Mets.

Which now brings the season series to 4-6 Mets. I then sim to the ASB, and the Mets have a 4.0 gm lead at the ASB (after I got swept for the 1st time in the year to the Bucs).

Oh well still plenty of ball left.

Ryan Howard is the HR Derby champ after I hit 77 HRs in that piss poor example of a HR Derby. I had to purposely get myself out swinging super early to take a strike for an out here were the results: rd 1-32; rd 2-25; rd 3-20. Ryan Braun hit 6 in the final rd......hey at least it was an easy 10 gamerpoints!

    =================================================

Fellas...Tell me what you think of this trade.

W/ Jayson Werth out for the yr I'm looking for another everyday OF'er; since Matt Stairs has become my everday OF'er by default.

I only like to trade for guys the CPU puts on their trading block, and currently the last place Brewers have Mike Cameron on the block. He's an FA at the end of the yr, gives me back a RH bat that can hit for power vs lefties, and is an outstanding defender. Should I trade for him?

I'm thinking of trading my only top 100 prospect for him (Carlos Carrasco) as I need Kyle Kendrick as my 5th starter.

    Thoughts?

are anyone else's pitchers going down like flies? I've had Lester, Matsuzaka, Penny and now Masterson all go down with injuries. 3 have come from head injuries. Thank god the Sox have Smoltz, Buchholz and Bowden.

No, I turned injuries on about 20 games ago in my franchise and have not had 1 player get hurt het.

That's a tough one, as I wouldn't be keen on trading a high-end pitching prospect for a FA-to-be aging player. It sounds like Cameron fills a need for you -- I guess the Phils are pretty lefty-heavy -- but if you're planning on playing multiple seasons, you might want to see if you can do better. Maybe that means giving up less to get Cameron or trying to get someone better.

But I think you're getting close to the deadline, so if you're limiting yourself to the trade block, you might not have any other options. If you're willing to trade for someone not on the block, I usually try to check out the teams that would be "sellers" based on their record and players likely to be available (older players on rebuilding teams, FAs-to-be, etc). Then I'll see if anyone meets my needs (in your case RH corner OF), make a list of the possibilities before comparing ratings, financial considerations and what it would take to acquire them.

Anyways, your proposed trade for Cameron certainly is a "fair trade", but I'm not sure that you should do it. But if you're prepared to part with your top pitching prospect -- remember Jamie Moyer's arm is going to fall off at some point -- you have my blessing...

I'm trying to play as many seasons as I can (or can tolerate :wink.

I want to win now though, and the season-ending injury to Werth hurts my postseason dreams of a repeat.

My farm system is slim on talent and Carrassco is really the only trade worthy piece in the mix. I'd consider resigning Cameron too, and going into 2010 w/ 4 OF'ers of Cameron, Victorino, Ibanez, and Werth.

The win now mantra applies here I guess.

                  Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

I just started last night and lost 10 - 2 to the Reds. I was the mets. Still tinkering with human pitching sliders/cpu batting sliders, but I think I am right about where I want to be now.

One thing I am doing completely different this year is selecting all 30 teams and setting the CPU to handle lineups/rotations/etc. so I have to use whatever they give me. I like the idea of playing the game as more of a Manager rather than a traditional franchise as the GM. This way I can play with whatever team I like whenever I wish.

I'm sure the majority of my games will still be played using the Mets, but I know I won't be able to resist a Yankees/Red Sox match-up.

The more and more I think about Cameron in red pin stripes I'm liking it.

oh and I was looking at possibly trading for a player not on the block using the "deal w/ a last place team/high payroll method", but honestly the only two teams completely out of it at the ASB are SD and KC. Jose Guillen is a guy who I could get, but he has more than one yr left and there's not an OF'er on SD I'm interested in. I was interested in Peavy, but he's out for the yr w/ a torn right rotator cuff...ouch.

I like the idea of limiting myself to only players on the block though as it just justifies the trade more in my eyes since I'm assuming the CPU wants to move that player. I just wish they had a demand of what they were looking for.

So other than my mortgaging my future staff, you think it's a good deal right?

Do you want to know if it's fair or realistic?

It's not realistic at all, but it seems to be pretty fair as neither team is really gaining/losing too much.

Pulled the trigger on the deal last night.

You know what's funny is I remember going into the top 100 prospect list in late May/early June, and saw only one prospect for my Phillies listed - Carlos Carasco. However, before trading him away to MIL I wanted to see where he ranked, and going back into that screen a month or so later in July I now had 3 more prospects listed - Kyle Drabek being one, and a RF and 2B (Jason Donald I presume). MIL wouldn't accept a 1 for 1 of Carasco for Cameron so I had to add one player to the deal.

Anyways here's the deal I made for Cameron:

PHI Sends RHSP Prospect Carlos Carasco and LHRP Joe Bisenius

                            MIL Sends CF Mike Cameron

                            ================================================

The deal was made on the Phillies 2nd off day following the ASB. Mike Cameron was held out of the lineup for the 1st two games of the 1st series of the 2nd half @ Florida due to a lingering calf strain. He made his debut in the 3rd game as Philly completed a sweep of Florida to begin the 2nd half.

                            Cameron went: 1-3 w/ a R and 2 BB.

The 1st gm of this series was a disappointer. Looking to resurrect Cole Hamels' season I'm playing everyone of his starts.

So to start the 2nd half Hamels was going up against Josh Johnson. They had a nice duel going till around the 5th inning when I was able to get 2 runs in, but the following inning Florida would cut it in half w/ a solo shot by Dan Uggla (Hamels' 19th HR surrendered); PHI 2-1. In the T9th I had a chance to get some insurance for Hamels w/ the bases loaded and no outs, but Ibanez got picked off at third and I'm still scratching my head as to how that happened. Then Stairs hit what looked to be a gapper, and I sent Utley from 2nd to score but the ball was caught by Ross who doubled up Utley at 2nd.

Onto the 9th w/ Lidge coming in to close and a 2-1 lead...Jorge Cantu singles on the first pitch and is lifted for Alfredo Amezega. Then Uggla flies out to RF, and the next batter Cody Ross is hit by Lidge - damn gesture slider. Basically Lidge blows the save, but gets out of the inning w/ it tied up 2-2, onto the 10th.

Rollins leads off the inning, and RHP Rick Vandenhurt on his second pitch has to leave the game w/ a shoulder injury. LHP Todd Tankersly relieves him, and on his first pitch gives up a solo HR that J-Roll torches down the 3rd baseline, PHI up 3-2 .

I tack on 3 more runs on a 3r Matt Stairs HR to left-center to go up 6-2 which would end up being the final score.

                            Hamels' Line: 8IP 5H 1BB 8K - ND -->

In other news Ryan Howard started the ASB leading the majors in HRs w/ 30 . I've been killing the ball w/ him in July having 3 multi-HR games IN A ROW!

I am now 18-16 in my Reds season.
Got in 2 games last night both wins at ARIZONA, their offense is just horrible in this game.

                                GAME 1
                                REDS 6 DBACKS 0
                                Arroyo pitched 7 inn 0 runs 4 hits 4 k's.
Gomes hit a grand slam in the 4th, Phillips hit a 2 run HR in the 9th.
Reds had 10 hits the Dbacks had 8.

                                GAME 2
                                REDS 4 DBACKS 1
                                Cueto pitched 7 inn 1 run 7 hits 8 k's.
Edwin had a huge 2B with the bases loaded and two outs in the 6th, 3 runs scored on the play. ARI cut the lead to 3-1 in the 7th, Bruce then added a solo HR in the 8th.
The DBacks loaded the bases in the bottom of the 9th but Coco got out of the jam, striking out the last 2.

Again I am 18-16, 1 game back of the Brewers.
