    Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

I'm 3-3, after getting swept by the Dodgers. They scored 8 runs on 14 hits with Lincecum as the starter, he's 0-2 to start the season. This team's lack of home run hitters is killing me right now and I'm still maneuvering for some type of bat. Renteria has been horrible. Winn and Rowand are off to bad starts, as is Ishikawa and Frandsen.

My only bright spots so far is Fred Lewis and Pablo Sandoval, with Rich Aurilia hitting a couple of home runs when I've filled him in the lineup.

Switch out Renteria for Buriss. Other than the 0/11 stealing with him he's worked out pretty good. Can try Uribe too,he wasn't bad either. Aurillia is the only guy that hasn't played for me. Maybe in June or July whenever the interleague play is. Fransden isn't doing anything?

        Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

I'm 6-1 to begin June w/ the Phillies, and have improved to 31-24 about to begin a 3gm road series w/ the Mets; I'm .5 gm back of 1st place in the NL East. Should make for a good series.

My only loss so far in June was charged to Cole Hamels whose record now falls to 1-6. I've been pitching better w/ him, and his fastball seems to have gotten some velocity back. I don't know what it was, but for ALL of April (and most of May) it was clocking in at 88. Now it's all of a sudden hitting 91 consistently. I've got his ERA under 5, as it sits at 4.48 after he was charged 3 runs over 8 innings in my last outing w/ him.

Myers and Blanton are my best pitchers thus far. Myers is 4-4 and Blanton 4-3, both w/ ERAs in the 3's or lower. Myers is leading the team in Ks w/ 70 after striking out 12 Padres in his last outing.

I've copied down standings and league leaders through May that I'll post to my blog some time today.

        ***Notable Injuries in my 'chise***

60 Day DL - Jake Peavy (Torn Rotator Cuff, out for yr)
15 Day DL - Adam Dunn (Fractured ankle, out 45 days)

          Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

I finally restarted my franchise last night as the Met's again. I signed Perez this time and signed Sheffield. I have myself (82 rated) playing left field/1b and have a created pitcher Arron Law (81 rated) who I have created every year since Triple Play 97. I won 17-3, I kept my previous sliders set where I was only scoring 3-5 runs but last night I hit 8 homeruns and was a beast scoring 4 in the 1st, 7 in the 5th, and 4 in the 7th inning. Santana pitched 6 innings allowing 3 runs on 7 hits. He allowed a HR in the 1st and 2 runs in the 2nd inning than shut down the next 15 strait batters.
          Gaming hard since 1988

I have won like 25 Super Bowls in Madden so I am kinda a big deal.

I have a question about franchise... I want to control 2 teams in my franchise... Will the cpu go and make moves (signings, promotions/demotions, etc) with the other 28 teams? If so is there a way to shut that off?

Frandsen's been pretty bad for me. Maybe he heats up in this San Diego series I'm about to start. I should be able to get 2 or a sweep out of this.

                Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

I restarted my franchise last night also. I used one of the guys rosters off of here, I have to move Kyle Drabek and John Maryberry Jr. My average were too high, and it seemed like JBH's sliders are the way to go, and get the most realistic amount of stats. My lineup is basically the same. I adjust my minor leagues, I signed a few people to even out the rosters in the minors, but here is my starting MLB team.

                Lineup:
                SS Rollins
                CF Victorino
                2B Utley
                1B Howard
                RF Werth
                LF Ibanez
                3B Feliz
                C Ruiz

                Bench:
                Mayberry
                Stairs
                Coste
                Bruntlett
                Dobbs

                Rotation:
                LHP Hamels
                RHP Myers
                LHP Moyer
                RHP Blanton
                RHP Park

                Bullpen:
                Lidge
                Madson
                Romero
                Eyre
                Tauscher
                Happ

Yes. The CPU will manage the other 28 teams. There is no way to shut that off. If you want the moves of other teams to be controlled then you'd have to control all 30 teams yourself, and I highly advise not to do that.

I simmed through a season just to see how it would operate controlling all 30 teams, and it was a mess in the offseason. You'd likely spend a good 3 hours just trying to get free agents signed to certain teams and then you'd have to swap players in/out of minor leagues etc. to get the 25 man rosters for each level straight.

I chose 4 teams to control: 2 the Phillies and O's are my favorites. The other two KC and WAS, are my projects.

                    Re: FRANCHISE PROGRESS

Man...After playing the Dodgers in a 4gm series I realized that the Dodgers DID NOT have Manny in their lineup, at all.

He would only be brought in for pinch hitting. I then looked at his player card and he has only played in like a total of 8 games after the league has mostly played 55/56.

...Juan Pierre was getting the starts in CF, and Kemp and Either were the other 2 starting outfielders....

I made a trade for the CPU:

LA sends: Juan Pierre, Cory Wade, and a minor leaguer.

White Sox send: Octavio Dotel (who they had on their trading block), and Brian Anderson.

Now Manny is the everyday leftfielder, and the Dodgers have a better setup man than Guillermo Mota.

The White Sox get Pierre who's leading the league in steals w/ 23 (CS 5 times), and his having a good year at the plate hitting around .280.

The White Sox 4th OF'er is Jim Edmonds (who they signed as an FA).

DeWayne Wise is in the minor leagues after they sent him down due to poor performance.

I am in 2nd week of May with the Angels. After starting the season off great at a record of 17-2. I've began to do downhill, going 2-8 in my last 10. I got swept by Baltimore & Oakland both were mini 2 game series. I lost 2 key players in SP Brandon Webb who as 55 days left until he can play again and Brian Fuentes, who took a line drive to the head and is out 24 more days with a major concussion. After Fuentes went on the DL, I have no trust in my bullpen. So I might trade for Rafael Betancourt, who has been on the trading block since the start of the 09 season.

My trading block consists of Chone Figgins, Dustin Mosley & Bobby Abreu. I have gotten some decent offers for Abreu. Two of the offers I would consider. Either of them would help out my bullpen. They are Joel Zumaya from the Tigers & Brian Wilson for the Giants.

I am off to start a 3 game series with the Royals.

Well Zumaya isn't a healthy player so you could be right back in the crapper trading for him should he more than likely get injured.

Randy Winn and Bob Howry to the Nationals

                          for

Josh Willingham and some mediocre prospect.

Just swept the Padres on the road, with the last 2 games being shutouts. Randy Johnson pitched a one-hitter in the 2nd game. Currently 6-3, tied for 2nd place in the NL West.

Josh Willingham in his first Giants game goes 2-5 with a double and a RBI.

Got 3 against the Pirates next.
