JBH3, we'd certainly need to do comparisons to see how the numbers compare.

I think I'll simulate a bunch of CPU v CPU games so we have some data points to compare to after the patch.

Re: "OS & BFJ" Present MLB 2K9 Spring Training Sliders

I played with a modified set of Joe's earlier sliders for the last week or so. I tried the latest set today. What a difference!

Houston: 1 Run, 4 Hits, 1 Error (me)
      Arizona: 3 Runs, 6 Hits, 0 Errors

Through seven innings, Oswalt and Webb went pitch for pitch.

We entered the bottom of the 8th, tied 0-0. I pinch hit for Oswalt in the top half the inning to get something going, and was forced to bring Hawkins into the game. The D'backs hit a single and bunted the runner to second. With two outs, Conor Jackson hit a solid single to put Arizona up 1-0.

The D'backs bring in Qualls at the top of the 9th. Webb's final line: 8 IP, 107 pitches, 7 K's, 2 BB's. Matsui drops down a perfect drag bunt and reaches first. Bourn then hits a tailor-made double-play ball, but I had sent Matsui on the pitch; the only play was to first. That leaves it up to Berkman... who smokes the first pitch he sees down the right field line. Matsui scores. Tie game!

I bring in Geary to start the bottom of the 9th. He strikes out the first hitter he faces, but then gives up a single up the middle. Byrnes manages to work the full count... fouls one off. Then, on a 3-2 pitch, he jacks a walk-off homerun into the left field bleachers!

This was one of the best games of 2K9 I've played. The lowered contact opens up all sorts of hit types (which also opens up the number of fielding animations). It also made facing Webb a challenge. Unlike my previous sliders (user hits were a little too frequent), getting a hit wasn't a guarantee. I had to try to move runners, truly wait for a pitch I knew I could handle. It led to deeper pitch counts.

This slider set is phenomenal. Nice work, Joe!

If you might be able to help me please!

I am having one hellluva time trying to swipe bags, or even advance runners on fly balls for that matter. Are my guys really that slow?? I tried to up the runner speed slider to 70, and I even decreased the pickoff and catcher settings a bit, but man, even on a deep fly ball it seems like I can barely get a runner home, and forget advancing to third from second on a deep fly. gunned down baby! Any thoughts?

          Okay, couple of things:

For tagging up on fly balls, there is some definite help by holding the r-stick to the bag you are trying to take rather than just pushing it towards the bag and releasing it. I scored on a mid-depth flyball last night with Ortiz coming in from third on a Youkilis fly ball to right. Remember, if you play at Fenway, unless the fly ball is ont he track in left, there is a good chance you are going to get hosed anyway with the wall being so close. In this instance Ortiz went bak to the bag, as soon as the catch was made I held the R-stick down and kept it pegged the entire time. I slid head first in front of the throw, and I checked the replay, and he sprinted from the get-go as opposed to the jog-run-sprint that seems to occur from just pressing down and letting go. Pleased with this discovery.

Beckett beat the Yankees last night 4-0 with a complete game 111 pitches and 6 K's. Bay went yard in the 5th, and that was the only homerun hit. I have my Contact at 0 and this is making the game so much better for me. Power and Success are dialed in, and I can have a 15 hit barrage against a teams 4th starter, and then struggle with a 5 hit performance against the #1 stud.

I am hopeful that the patch does as advertised, and although I have worked so hard to get these sliders just right, I suppose re-working them after the patch will be worth it. I am holding off on the Franchise until the patch, and until I am sure there is no more freezing issues. There is nothing more discouraging than Franchise Freeze. NHL 09 fixed it with a patch, so here is hoping 2k can get it straightened out.

Hey brendan... Are you using joe's sliders from page 1 with your own tweaks or are you using page 1 sliders straight up? If you have some tweaks on your own, could you post them?

I am at work til 5pm today, but I will post when I get home. They are a combo platter of BFJ's and Guru's slider base, with my tweaks and testing with regards to speed, fielding, and gameplay.

I have it down to where guys with average speed are thrown out by the step they ought to on routine grounders, and faster guys are a 1/2 step quicker. That grounder into the hole at short needs to be played perfectly, and the L-trigger better be used with a perfect throw, or the fast guys can beat it out.

Doubles to the wall have the ball getting back into the infield at just the right time, so I have really worked on getting the timing of fielders, runners and the batted balls to mimic what I see as close to reality as I can make it.

That is what worries me about the patch, in that I will have to reconstruct the changes I have made to adapt to the ootb gameplay that 2k saddled us with, but hopefully it will transfer over fairly seamlessly.

I am very happy with the outcomes of games right now, and as soon as the patch hits, I will launch the RedSox 2009 Franchise.

keep an eye out for the slider set after work.

Is anyone else getting way too many hits with these?
I am now 14 games into my Reds season and I am batting .330 as a team.
I am not really scoring too many runs as I am only ave. 4.9 runs per game, I am just getting way too many hits.
Also the CPU offense has become non exsistent the last few games, I have won my last 4 games 5-2, 6-1, 4-1, and 4-2.

Guys if you feel your getting too many hits, up the AI Pitch Success Slider. Go no higher than 75 on that slider. As for Power I really believe the Living Roster Updates are effecting the way the game is playing. To the point that no slider set will get people the results they are looking for.

I mean people are jacking the POWER Slider @ the way to 100 in order to get realistic HR counts. That should tell you something....

I really want to see more batted foul balls by both CPU and user. There are just too many batted balls that end up being in play, thus leads to lowering of pitch counts. I use Joe's slider and I do get a bit more foul balls by lowering batting success to zero. But with that, the pitcher can throw down the middle all day and no HR's will be hit, even with contact and power both raised to 100 with Manny at the plate. With batting success any higher, less foul balls will be hit. Can someone please suggest a happy medium where more foul balls would be hit without neutering the batters?

                          hi all,

couple questions today. Firstly I downloaded the 3.0 sliders on 2K share. I am assuming these are the latest DOWNLOAD available. However I notice that on the first page that Joe has some numbers with slashes (example 45/50) am I assuming then that these 3.5 versions I hear of I would manually just change the slider up to 50?

Also, Is the new patch going to seriously mess up all of these, or are we just talking a few tweaks here and there that I can make while continuing on with my season?

                          Thanks!

If you like fenway, yes you can change the sliders once you download them to what's on the 1st page of this thread. The 45/50 numbers are there in case you want to try the 1st # (45) then feel you don't like it & need to up it, then move it to 50.

Hopefully I said that correctly without confusing you... lol

As for the PATCH. No one really knows how the PATCH is gonna affect game play. Right now I'm worried about how the Living Rosters are affecting game play

yeah, I agree with you there, who knows what the living rosters will do?

I do know this though, since I am only a few games into the season, I am definitely starting over with injuries OFF. Unbelievable how many of my guys got dinged up in the first series.

Wow, aside from a few of my own tweaks I am using these sliders in my franchise, and am having as much fun (while producing realistic stats) as ever in a baseball game.

1st game I played tonight, 16 innings.... Lol it was a heart breaking 5-4 loss seeing as how I was all over their pitcher with a whopping 20 hits to their 9. I think all but 2 of my hits (a double and solo shot) were of the single variety, including a beauty bunt base hit from Bourn. Homer Bailey went 7 innings, striking out 7 and giving up just 4 hits, giving me a 4-2 lead into the 8th. Derek Lee then hit a 2 run shot to tie it up on a 3-1 fastball After that I had my share of chances to win it in extras, but the CPU made a couple diving grabs to rob me with 2 out and RISP. Only thing I didn't like about this game was the first base off the bag glitch (anyone find a way to minimize it?), as it gave me a total of 6 errors (5 from it) and only 3 of their runs were earned.

Then just now, I play probably my favourite game ever in a baseball video game, a good old fashion Pitcher's Duel. 0-0 in the bottom of the ninth. Votto up with 1 out and hits a single to left. Encarnacion then gets robbed on a line drive by a diving Chipper Jones, bringing up Brandon Phillips with the game on his bat. Watch the first pitch for a ball, the second catches the outside corner and the count is 1-1. I get a fastball belt high on the outer half of the plate, and BAM! Gapper to right-center. I instantly make up my mind that Votto is trying for home. Relay comes in and Joey (CANADIAN!) JUST slides in head first under the tag for the ball game! I (Edinson Volquez) went 9 shutout innings giving up 6 hits (again, 3 of them were hits credited from first base thing that were really errors) and striking out 7. Javier Vazquez went 8 and 2/3 with 4 K's and was credited 1 ER (gave up Votto's single before ATL went to the pen...which didn't work out well for them )

Anyways, great job BFJ and I am truely having a blast with this game. My favourite part with these sliders (and game) is it's finally possible to produce realistic HR numbers. In 2k8 I would always find myself having a couple guys per year on pace for the 60-70 dingers which I couldn't stand. Now with functional sliders, I think my team has hit just 3 HR in the first 6 games of the season, and our record is 2-4! So thanks for all your hard work, once that patch comes out and fixes the 1st base glitch I will be in heaven
