re: Padgoi's Post-Patch Cursor Hitting Sliders

hmm... that's interesting. I'll have to try and bump the contact up a bit. I have it at like 60 or 65. I assumed this helped control the hits and didn't want it too high.

I would love to see more foul balls with both myself and the AI!!!

Re: Padgoi's Post-Patch Cursor Hitting Sliders

Anyone give the updates a try and have some stats to post? I keep going with the cursor, getting frustrated and wanting to turn it off. It just seems too easy to make contact without using the cursor so I'll stick with it.

I've normally used classic pitching because it seemed harder to hit your spots. With the patch is it harder to hit your spots?

From BigFnJoe's thread regarding the new default sliders:

          User's Batting options

          Pitcher Handedness Inf: _______(Rookie-100, Pro-100, Allstar-100, Legend-100)

          I.E. Batter Zone Inf: __________(Rookie-100, Pro-100, Allstar-100, Legend 100)

          Batting Pitch Influence: ________(Rookie-75, Pro-75, Allstar-75, Legend 75)

          Batting Eye Influence: _________(Rookie-75, Pro-50, Allstar-25, Legend 0)

          Hit Direction Influence: _________(Rookie-90, Pro-70, Allstar-50, Legend 30)

          Zone Hitting Influence: _________(Rookie-30, Pro-50, Allstar-70, Legend-90)

          Bunt Contact: ________________(Rookie-75, Pro-50, Allstar-40, Legend 35)

          Bunt Success: ________________(Rookie-75, Pro-50, Allstar-45, Legend 40)
I've highlighted the one that caught my eye that's pertinent to this thread and those of us using cursor hitting. It appears that a lower Zone Hitting Influence setting makes it easier to hit -- as you can see, the setting increases as the difficulty level increases.

This contradicts my previous assumption that ZHI measured how much of a reward the user receives for correctly lining up the sweet-spot with the ball. Based on the the idea the easier difficulties have a lower setting, it appears that this slider is more likely to affect how accurate the cursor placement needs to be to produce solid contact.

Padgoi has ZHI at 60, which seems to be a reasonable setting as it's squarely between the Pro & All-star default setting. However, I wanted to point this out for anyone who is looking to tweak the settings for their abilities. If you feel that it is too difficult, you'll actually want to lower the slider -- unless of course this was a mistake by 2K. Kidding aside, considering raising other sliders would make it easier to hit, I felt it was a worthy point to make...

            Good catch ZHI.
Now that you mention it, I may increase the ZHI. I'm trying to keep the sliders closer to All-Star - Legend rather than Pro - All-Star. That and I'm still getting a few too many hits, not many, but could cut down a bit. I won't raise it more than 70 though.

For those who are following this, I lowered Gesture Recognition to 60. On 70, I was struggling to throw strikes with Mariano Rivera, who has arguably the best control in baseball. Good control pitchers should have good control. On 60, I was still throwing balls and still walked 2 hitters, I think it's ok there.
The rest seem ok, though I may raise CPU errors, they make none.
I also definitively made pitch speed 65. It's challenging but not too challenging that you'll strike out 15 times per game.

I totally agree on the pitch speed at 65. Its funny, someone posted a thread asking if pitch speed seemed faster after the patch and people said no. I had the pitch speed set to 80, pre patch, feeling that 65-70 was too slow. Now 65 seems ideal!!!

heading to the first post to plug in your updated sliders. thanks for the work, man!!

Re: Padgoi's Post-Patch Cursor Hitting Sliders

I used these yesterday and had an overall pretty good game. I was the Cards facing the Cubs. Oviously this is only one game and it may be the exception, but here are few things I noticed.

Zambrano, who is not a control pitcher in real life, pitched like one in the game. Just about every pitch was either on the black or slightly off of it. Except for one wild pitch in the 7th or 8th, I would say that not one pitched missed the zone by more than an inch or two.

I think the overall pitch speed is good. I felt like I had realistic at bats, minus the pin point accuracy of Zambrano. Occasionally, I found myself out front of a curve or behind a good fastball, which is the way it should be.

Pitching against the computer for the most part felt good. I made some good pitches and they hit some mistakes. The one issue I had was they hit three DEEP opposite filed home runs. One was with Aramis, so I had no problems with that, but the other too seemed unrealistic, both because of how far they went, but also because of who hit them. One was Theriot and the other was Fukudome. I was playing in Chicago and all three went over the bleachers.

Overall it was a pretty solid game, but I would like to see pitchers who tend to be wild, be a little all over the place and hitters who don't hit for a lot of power not hit homeruns that would make Babe Ruth envious.

Re: Padgoi's Post-Patch Cursor Hitting Sliders

                      1. Trev, I may lower CPU Pitch Zone Tendency down to 15 or 20, but at 10 for Strike Zone Tendency, if you're patient, I'm seeing realistic walk amounts, so I'm not touching that. As for the CPU homers, I also may lower CPU Batting Power to 70, not because of any abnormal homerun distances, but because I've seen a few homers on pitches that fooled hitters. I threw a curveball outside and low to Adam Jones and he pulled it out of the park. So I'm thinking CPU power at 70 or 75 would be more realistic.

                      2. bayern, I rarely go on 2k share as my modem is in another room, but when I get back home (I'm house-sitting for a few days in Manhattan, I live in Queens), I'll make a point to upload 'em. I also would like to finalize a set, but I honestly think we're VERY close. Trev's suggestions may be some of the final tweaks I make as I'm really getting good results.

                        Hey all,

Anyone willing to give me your overall opinion of 2k9 post-patch using these zone hitting sliders? I really want baseball on my 360! I'm a pretty average gamer, but I do like realistic games against the CPU. I can deal with a few animation glitches if it doesn't alter the game too badly. Really I'm just curious if you all feel the game is a good or great game post-patch using these sliders or is it a constant struggle trying to find a happy medium?

Maybe I am missing it but is this using swing stick still or classic hitting. I definatly want to try zone hitting to get a better hit variation.

                            It's up to the user.
I use classic, button hitting IMO is easier to control, especially when doing something as difficult as cursor hitting.
