Here's how I break up my swing types:
    - First of all, I usually take until strike 1. If you look at a lot of the high on base percentage MLBers, they do this too. I did it when I played baseball. I do it when I play baseball video games.
    - 0-0 and 1-0 counts I pre load a power swing but will only swing if batters eye lights up and shows it to be a pitch down the middle. This is to jump on those pitches who groove a first pitch fastball to get an early strike one. Other than that, I'm taking.
    - On 2-0, 3-0 and 3-1 counts I power swing freely, as in, if the pitch looks good I will power swing to crush it. No left stick influence. As a real batter does, I'm looking for a good pitch here, probably let something on the corners go by.
    - On 0-2 and 1-2 counts I'm swinging defensively. Anything close I foul off trying to work the count to more of a hitters count to get a better pitch to hit. Need a good eye here to let the balls go by. I do take some called third strikes here and there.
    - On "regular" or "even" counts I contact swing. This includes 0-1, 1-1, 2-1, 2-2, 3-2. Of course on the 2 strike counts I swing at anything that looks to be a strike. On a 1 strike count I'm a little more selective and might let a strike on the outside corner at the knees go by.

With all that said, I play with the Braves who do not have but 1 real power hitter (Uggla). I've hit the most homeruns with him - all but 1 were power swings. I believe I've hit 1 contact swing homerun with McClouth (71 power) and McCann (80 power) as well. I've hit homeruns with as low as mid 60's power (Freddie Freeman). Have not hit one with someone in the 50's yet (like Martin Prado vs. RHP).
So you use batters eye? I thought this set had it turned off?

Batters eye is the thing that pops up those blue bars on the edges or around the strike zone right? Tells you if its a fastball, breaking ball, changeup, etc.? If so, yes I use it and love it.

This is just MY take on things, I use Joe's sliders as a base and tweak to my liking as all of you should do. There is no one size fits all for sliders...

I have when it tells he what kind of pitch is coming but I have never seen it show where the pitch is heading.

That does make good sense, but here's something to counter that:

The Reds, last year's best hitting team, had less than 20 games total where they recorded more than 13 hits, and around a dozen games where they recorded more than 12.

Just looking at team's gamelogs, it seems like your majority should be in the 6 hit to 12 hit range. Doesn't mean we should freak out if you have a game with 14 hits, but consistently getting more than that is really going to skew your results.

Plus, most importantly, you have to have those 4 and 5 hit games to balance it out.

I can't really get into deep discussion right now. Jake most of my HR have been with the Power Swing.

Blazzen, I think I'm gonna move SZT to default 50. It just feels right, as you will really need to work the strike zone. Pitchers will throw pitches out of the zone but in a more realistic manner

I hate to ask, these are played on the "Legend" setting?

The word "legend" is scaring me away....thought that setting would be way too hard? Guess not guys?

Walks were due to strike zone tendency. 40 seems to be a magic setting for me, though I'm a fairly patient hitter. My house rules are on a 0 strike count I preload a power swing. If batters eye lights up at the pitch down the middle I will power swing on a 0 strike count, otherwise I will take until 1 strike. I will also power swing freely on a 2-0, 3-0 or 3-1 count. On any 0-2 or 1-2 count I will defensively swing. All other counts I contact swing. Seems to help me draw more walks because lots of pitches on the corners in previous years that would've been called strikes are called balls over half the time. Setting @ 40 seems to generate about 3 walks per game for me.

The strikeouts were due to the pitch break influence slider. Lowering it lowers strikeouts. I'm running around 50 and I'm getting a good number of K's on both sides, average 7-8 which is good. The problem with this is I think it also promotes more solid contact, so I've lowered my cpu/user batting to compensate for this. User I'm running 35/65 and cpu I'm using 45/75. Having some issues with hit totals being too high (though runs do not always follow suit, had a couple games with 12-14 hits but only scored 3-5 runs).

I'm still tweaking the hitting sliders. I like having power higher like you have it because it allows non power hitters to still hit a homerun here and there. However, it seems like it leads to too many hits because harder contact means its easier to find a gap. Lower the contact slider to lower hits and then you get too many strikeouts. Lowered the pitch break influence to compensate for the lowered contact slider and too many strikeouts and now that leads to more solid contact so I lowered contact and power hitting sliders to compensate.

Just trying to find that happy medium...

Just to follow up on the pitch break influence slider. I lowered it to 0 and started a game vs the Padres (didn't get to finish it), but had 3 Ks through 2 innings. I was hoping that having it at 0 would just yield nothing but contact, so I could adjust accordingly.

I think the main issue with high strikeouts is that the CPU batter is almost passive at the plate. You need them to take pitches early in the count, but they aren't really fighting with 2 strikes.

What's weird about the pitch break influence slider is that it remains at 50 through all difficulty levels, and you can't really tell a difference in how much the pitches are breaking.

I'd like a few more groundouts in my results. It's frustrating.

Do you have the strike zone turned off when you are batting? If so, those blue bars won't show up.

I can go ahead and confirm that walks shouldn't be an issue with pitch success at 85 and SZT at 50. Started up a game, set the controller down, let the CPU throw me whatever it wanted. 5 walks, 3 Ks. Then I switched sides and did the same. 4 walks, 3 Ks.

I will have better results if I just set the controller down and go to the bathroom when it's my turn to bat.

okay..so i played 3 games in my franchise with these sliders...
                      Game 1:
                      Astros @ Phillies (me)

                      Astros: 4
                      Phillies: 1

                      Astros Batting:
                      11/36...4 Runs...4 ER...1 BB...7 K's...0 HR's
                      Astros Pitching:
                      9 IP...6 Hits...1 ER...0 BB...10 K's

                      Phillies Batting:
                      6/32...1 Run...1 ER...0 BB...10 K's...0 HR's
                      Phillies Pitching:
                      9 IP...11 Hits...4 ER...0 BB...7 K's...0 HR's

Overall great game...had trouble hitting my spots with Halladay in the 6th inning in which they scored all 4 runs

                      Game 2:
                      Phillies (me) @ Braves

                      Phillies: 2
                      Braves: 7

                      Braves Batting:
                      12/36...7 Runs...7 ER...3 BB's...7K's...3 HR's
                      Braves Pitching:
                      9 IP...10 Hits...2 ER...1 BB...11 K's...2 HR's

                      Phillies Batting:

                      8 IP...12 Hits...7 ER...3 BB's...7 K's...3 HR's

once again...6th inning..couldnt even hit the strike zone with Cliff Lee..they scored 5 in the 6th

                      and then...this happened...

                      Game 3:

Karpet, thanks for posting those stats. We definitely are somewhat playing the same game. It seems like after the 6th inning the CPU just comes alive. It almost feels like comeback logic..

Karpet feel free to bump the Pitch Control Slider up to 40 & see if that helps pitchers. You also could lower the User Pitch Composure Slider to 25-30. This should help somewhat with your pitcher's getting rattled. I firmly believe pitcher's get rattled too easy is this game, which for isn't realistic

Did you start to get comfortable in that 3rd game with the settings, hence the offensive explosion?

Well the same thing happened to me last night. I was cruising through the first 4 innings and blame gave up like 8 runs and 12 hits in the next 2 innings. Granted, I could of maybe prevented a couple of runs because I was steaming. Seemed like once my pitchers got rattled it was all over.

I am gonna try the 30 setting for human composure in the next game. Also I did put the Cpu SZT at 50 as you suggested and I was able to draw 3 walks in the game. They didnt feel cheap, had to earn um.

                          Cin-17

The word "legend" is scaring me away....thought that setting would be way too hard? Guess not guys?
They're based off the legend sliders. But its a custom slider. Anytime you move the sliders it becomes custom.

So I'm testing User Pitch Composure @ 25 v White Sox. 1st inning using Phil Hughes (yankees) gives up 2 runs on 4 hits. The ball meter didn't start vibrating until after the 4th hit & the 2nd run scored.

Total of 8 batters made-it to the plate. He was able to get out of it. Next inning 1-2-3

I am running 25 in my current set,and I really like it. I have to avoid the temptation of "giving in" to the hitter, because that leads to me getting thrashed.

It's just not in my nature to walk somebody, and I've found that often I am throwing the pitch right down the middle to avoid a walk when I should be trying to make a good pitch.
