Re: BIGFNJOE96 mlb 2k11 Custom Legend Sliders
Regarding the hitting sliders, the CPU values seem just right now. After the patch came out I could throw over the plate all day without fear--like 75-85% strikes. Now I have to stay out of the zone a lot more and the run totals are perfect.
I'm not 100% sold on the HUM values though. At 35 CON, I noticed a LOT of forced animations where the frame rate would slow and speed to make me miss a pitch I was actually dead on. I don't mind making less contact, but when the game strains itself visually to represent a slider value I'm a little concerned. Have you noticed this framerate deal? It's like the game creates an artificial hole in the strike zone by blipping out frames. I'll try it a little more at 35 and then compare at 40 to see how it looks.Comment

TM I'm not sure about that framerate issue when hitting. What I do see is again timing when swinging. The timing on swings are more important now.
Enable the Swing Analyzer & check out your swings. This helps get timing down.

I moved user pitch control back to 40. This should help with pitches locate better when hitting your gestures correctly..Comment

Re: BIGFNJOE96 mlb 2k11 Custom Legend Sliders
i feel as if the strike tendency slider should be at 45 or 40
i've played 2 combined games today with 1 walk combined...not seeing nearly enough to make an impact on hitting, as my hitting is struggling as well because i'm constantly in 0-2 and 1-2 countsComment

Re: BIGFNJOE96 mlb 2k11 Custom Legend Sliders
I take a lot on the first pitch. I'll only swing if the ball is up and looks like a hanging off-speed pitch. Otherwise, I'll sit on it. That's an obvious tip, but there are some other ones that might help:
-The CPU will not give in on a 2 ball count. You can't count on a pitch to drive unless you're up 3-0 or 3-1, so be selective.
-The CPU will pitch around your big bats at all possible, so take take take with them until you get a mistake.
-The CPU will pitch around non-star batters who are on hot streaks, so look for balls when batting with them.
-The CPU will give you garbage when looking for a double play, so take the first few pitches and get into a hitter's count at all possible
-The CPU will pitch you in patterns that make guessing "ball" a high percentage event. Like if you get a FB in, you'll likely see a breaking pitch outside or low that you can take next.
-One pattern is that the CPU will sometimes pitch chunks of batters in a row "forward or backward," meaning that if you see first pitch strikes with FBs on your first two batters, come out swinging on your next two. Alternatively, if you see breaking balls out of the zone twice in a row early in the count, assume you're being pitched backwards and only swing if those off-speed pitches are high enough that they won't break out of the zone.
-Some pitchers are just "on" or "off." Take a few pitches to see if the pitcher is in the zone that day or not.
-This plays into the last point, which is just that you'll see the right numbers over the course of the season.
When I don't draw walks it's because I'm in a hurry or just not paying attention. This game rewards very well good baseball sense. If you think about what you'd likely see in real life in a given situation, you'll get yourself into your share of hitter's counts and thus be able to be in a better position to get walks.
One last random thing--learn to use the "fight off" swing if you use analog hitting. On 0-2, judge instantly if the ball is released over the plate or not. If it is, flick that stick to foul it off. If you're a good judge, you'll start to get some clear balls and you'll get better count leverage.Comment

Great post TM. 1 thing 2K has done really well this year is pitching. AI pitching especially. If you work your AB you will get your walks.
This year control is really tied into ratings. That's why after much testing I went back to default 50.
What also helps me is enabling the Strike Zone when hitting.
Finally if 50 isn't working then move the slider to your liking. The #'s in place are more of starting point, than an end point.

Re: BIGFNJOE96 mlb 2k11 Custom Legend Sliders
Everyone's experience is a little different, but I've played over 50 games on this set and the walks are there in the right amount. As is always the case with baseball, there are just TONS of factors that determine if you're gonna see a ball or not.

So you do think 50 is ok huh? it may be just me but whenever i get 2 strikes, no matter a 0-2, 1-2, 2-2, or 3-2, they constantly throw consecutive strikes, never balls. I think getting 3-4 walks a game is pretty realistic, but even the best pitchers lose control a couple times every game.Comment

Re: BIGFNJOE96 mlb 2k11 Custom Legend Sliders
WOW wasnt expecting that much of a response, thanks so much dude. i tend to be in a hurry when i'm playing, so i feel i'm swinging at early pitches in the zone that i should be taking or fouling off to get a better pitch or to extend the count.

The more I work at hitting the more I realize that it's all about getting a good count. It just takes lots of time and practice and slowing down your thought process when you play in order to do this.
Use Joe's batting camera suggestions. That camera gives a good view so you can see high/low and wide balls.Comment

Re: BIGFNJOE96 mlb 2k11 Custom Legend Sliders
After playing with these sliders alot the past couple days, i have some suggestions on changes.
Pitcher control should be at 30. I feel like i never walk people, and thats because i can spot my pitches to my liking whenever i want. I shouldnt be able to do that the whole game, so i feel this would be a good change.
I still believe strike zone tendency should be at 45. i played a minor league game yesterday with these with SZT on 45, and he kept walking me on 4-5 pitches. I then played a major league game and could hardly get him to not throw in the zone. pitcher ratings are really important, and for that reason, seeing as the pitchers in the major leagues have really good ratings, this slider should be at 45.
Those were actually the only two i thought should be changed lol.
Oh, and i went to look at other slider threads, and many of them have hitting at 30-55 for human and 50-80 for cpu (just an example from harsh's and blazzen's). have you tested these at all, or is what you have good enough to produce realistic numbers for average, HRs, runs, etc.?Comment

Have you tried bumping the Pitch Meter Slider? Im of the thought that pitchers can located very well in the Majors.
It's on rare occasion that a pitcher can't locate. Pitchers usually start missing location once fatigue starts. If you feel like your locating to well, then drop Pitch Control to your liking.
Also missing location doesn't always mean balls. Missing location also happens within the strike zone.
As for Batting Sliders. I have checked out MK & Blazzen threads. Everyone has a method to their madness & for me my Batting Sliders seem to produce a realistic experience.
That experience doesn't mean hits & runs. It also means the way the ball comes of the bat. How hard balls are hit. Foul balls etc. etc. etc.
Strike Zone Tendency for me default 50 has been good. I get my fair share of walks but i need to work the plate when batting. If your not seeing walks then go ahead & drop it to your liking..

Re: BIGFNJOE96 mlb 2k11 Custom Legend Sliders
I've been getting some very realistic games with these sliders post-patch. Close games, realistic hits, etc. I'm only like 5 games into my franchise. Seems my starting pitchers are able to go almost a full game and stay pretty sharp. However, the expertise of the pitchers when it comes to laying down a bunt is still way too perfect imo. In all my games (franchise or otherwise), I've only had one unsuccessful bunt. It was a pop-up that the catcher dove and caught for the out.Comment

Thanks for the feedback. Try bumping Pitcher Fatigue (50) & lowering Bunt Success. Let me know how that works out

That's the "batters eye". If you set the frequency slider to 0, it shouldn't pop up at all."Baseball is the coolest sport because, at any moment, the catcher can stop the game and go tell the pitcher a secret" - Rob FeeComment
