Re: BIGFNJOE & GALLANDRO'S MLB 2K5 Pure Realism Sliders

I just played a couple of franchise games with these sliders man and I must say I'm loving them. now I can actually get base hits and doubles. the opposing pitcher in my first game actually got himself in trouble and the bases were loaded. I lost the first game 8-0 and figured that this would be hard for good, but I just beat the Braves 2-1. finally the score is varying from game to game. good job guys.

How do these sliders play out with weaker teams? I know Big Joe is using the Yanks. I play with the Rockies. Anyone try them with weaker teams and if so, what if anything needs to be tweeked? I used them for a 5 inning game against Boston and got rocked and then played KC and lost 3-0. I did get some walks but managed only one hit. I am still getting used to this game. I did play ESPN 2k4 all last year but this year's game takes some getting used to.

They play well. I think once you get use to the game, you'll start getting some "W's" under your belt. Don't get discouraged & try to play to your teams strength's.

well I can't speak on how they work for weaker teams, because I'm playing as the Marlins and I think they're middle road or just in the top half on the game out of the box. basically things have gotten better for me though because I'm learning how to hit and using more strategy with my runners on base. once you learn to hit though these sliders definately make things better and you're not stuck with those 1 run games which I thought sucked.

so far my games under these sliders have been
                NY Mets - I got rocked 8-0
                Atlanta Braves - won 2-1
                Phillies - lost 6-2

Re: BIGFNJOE & GALLANDRO'S MLB 2K5 Pure Realism Sliders

I don't normally use anyone else's sliders because a lot of times some of the settings are just whacked and crazy stuff happens, but I decided to try these because everyone was raving about them.

The first game I played, everything looked pretty good until the Pirates made three of the most boneheaded errors I have ever seen in a baseball game. The first one: I had a man on first and hit it right to the shortstop for a routine double play. Instead of just flipping to 2nd, the shortstop throws it into right field! It looked really strange too like the ball picked up speed once it got in right field. I wrote that one off as strange. The next play was a little dribbler hit to the first baseman by Yadier Molina. Anyone that uses the Cardinals knows that this guy might be the slowest guy in the game. You have time to make a sandwich and still throw him out. Anyway, the 1st baseman just doesn't move at all, then the pitcher comes over and picks up the ball and makes the tossing motion to first, but no one was there, so he just held the ball and Molina was safe. This play looked so goofy that my jaw hit the floor. The third one came on a little pop up to the shortstop late in the game. Absolutely a sure out. The shortstop puts his glove up to catch the ball, but the only problem was he was a good 5 feet away from it and never moved! These were all three really bad looking plays and looked like the game just made them happen.

The sad thing is, of the three plays, only one was ruled an error...the throwing error into right field. The other two should have been ruled errors, but both my hitters got credit for hits. Really bad.

Now I must say that none of these errors contributed to any runs for me so I guess no damage was done, but it sure looked bad. The stats for the game were pretty good as I had 12 hits, 5 runs and Pittsburgh had 6 hits and one run. I felt like I saw more of a variety of hits and I actually hit a ball right up the middle past the pitcher. The best thing was I didn't see any passed balls or wild pitches, but I don't want to trade off stupid looking errors for them either.

I'm going to try a few more games with them, but I am alarmed by the errors the cpu made and wonder maybe if 50 is too high. Also it doesn't make a lot of sense to turn the Human baserunning speed down when everyone seems to be having trouble stealing bases.

Anyway, I'll post more after my next few games.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

Well I can't speak for the problems you've seen, but I find at 50 the AI has a proper amount of average errors per game. I'm going through a 3 game series vs the Cubs and they did not have one error in the first two games, and they had one error in the final game of the series when trying to catch my runner at the plate... the ball was wildly overthrown.

But yes, the AI does some wonky things from time to time and I've come to the conclusion that it's the game engine itself. The reason the AI Error is so high is that when you turn it down the AI actually gets more stupid... slow rollers in the infield that stop but the pitcher is unable to pick up for some reason... and other truly bizarre plays.

Now I think some of this could be alleviated by bumping up the AI Fielder Agression (it's already set at 40), but I fear that if it gets bumped up much higher infielders will dive and jump and stop everything in their path.

Re: BIGFNJOE & GALLANDRO'S MLB 2K5 Pure Realism Sliders

OK, so I've played 4 more games with these sliders and in those 4 games, I saw 8 errors, but only one passed ball. The most common error I've seen is when I have a runner on 1st and hit it back to the pitcher he whirls around and throws it into center field. I've seen that happen 3 times now, twice in the same game. I'm not so sure the passed balls were worse than this, at least not for me.

In the four games I played, I lost them all and now I'm having trouble scoring runs. I'm not sure if my hitting stinks or the CPU pitching has just gotten better, but I'm lucky to scratch out a run a game. I'm hitting into way too many double plays and even though the slider to tone down the diving catches has been lowered, I'm still seeing a ton of them.

I may try one or two more games with them, but I think I'm going back to default sliders and maybe bump the errors up a little bit. Lowering the batter contact has killed me, I guess. You have to remember, I'm no joystick jockey like a lot of you are, I was having some fun games with the default sliders, but I was seeing a few too many passed balls so I decided to give these a try. Other than the passed balls, I didn't really see anything wrong with the default sliders.

Anyway, I appreciate the effort, but I think the sliders must make the game too tough for me to score. I've had some good games, but every game the Cardinals play will not be 2-1, 1-0, and 3-2....their offense is too good to score that small number of runs. Before I tried these sliders I was having 8-1, 7-6, and 5-3 games and I was hitting a few out...now I'm not.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

Other than the passed balls, I didn't really see anything wrong with the default sliders.

Anyway, I appreciate the effort, but I think the sliders must make the game too tough for me to score. I've had some good games, but every game the Cardinals play will not be 2-1, 1-0, and 3-2....their offense is too good to score that small number of runs. Before I tried these sliders I was having 8-1, 7-6, and 5-3 games and I was hitting a few out...now I'm not.
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

hey bigj, i am enjoying the sliders but i have noticed that the computer ai seems to be making all kinds of gold glove plays everytime i hit the ball to a fielder and when it looks like it should be a hit out of nowhere the fielder snags the ball. was wondering if you have this problem and if there is a way to adjust a slider to make it harder for the ai to make plays like that. thanks
