Re: BIGFNJOE & GALLANDRO'S MLB 2K5 Pure Realism Sliders

    My next game:

    ARZ 1 7 0
    ANA 5 9 1

    WP - Kelvim Escobar
    LP - Russ Ortiz

    Escobar 6 IP, 4 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
    Ortiz 3 IP 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 3 K

    ANA - Cabrera 1-4, HR, 4 RBI
    SB - R. Clayton 2, S. Green

Summary - Ok, so I was a little hasty about my not being able to hit that pitch speed. 9 hits is plenty. The big one, as noted above, was a Batter's eye lock on a low fastball, and Cabrera didn't miss it. I did have one concern in this game though - The CPU attempted 6 steals, and was cut down 3 times. 2 of them were at third. Clayton I can understand running, but getting cut down twice at third? You'd think he would've learned the first time. It's one game, so I wouldn't say it's the sliders just yet, but it is something I'll keep an eye out for. At least it's easy to fix, if there is a problem.

Oh, and the error came right at the end of the game, when I threw the ball into left field instead of second trying for a double play. Again, nothing excessive. No PB/WP either (I believe that bug is officially squashed with these settings.)

Re: BIGFNJOE & GALLANDRO'S MLB 2K5 Pure Realism Sliders

I decided to stick with these a little longer, but I still see some glaring problems, most importantly I think the Human Baserunning speed is way too low. Last night I had Reggie Sanders get thrown out at first on a single to right field and it really wasn't hit that sharply. I have also yet to steal a base. What was the original default human baserunning setting?

Still seeing quite a few absolutely goofy CPU errors and I threw 2 wild pitches with the human errors set at 25.

My hitting has improved a bit but I'm still seeing the AI make way too many fantastic catches robbing me of hits.

I still think these are decent sliders, I just think human baserunning is set way too low. What was your reason for lowering it anyway?
No, I didn't draft Grossman on my fantasy team, what do you think I am an idiot?

50 is default. This meaning that's what your players ratings are. If you lower it the play below their rating. If you make it higher they play above their rating. When you steal a couple of things to consider:

          1. You baserunner. Is he a base stealer.

          2. Your lead. I usually double click the R.Trigger to get a decent lead before I take off.

          3. Take control of your baserunner, after you do, mash the button corresponding to the base runner. This helps the base runner gain speed when running.

          Hope this helps.

Well, I can't imagine any black guy with decent speed getting thrown out at first on a single. That tells me right away that the human baserunning setting it too low.

LOL, raise Baserunner Speed to 55

That should stop the Bad News Bears Outfield Play.....

                      HUMAN SETTINGS
                      Batter Contact - 60
                      Batter Power - 60
                      Batter Slamzone Power - 0
                      Batter Bunt Assistance - 100
                      Runner Baserunning Speed - 50
(changed this because it appears runner speeds reflect "real life" better, I get many more close plays at first with speedy runners)
                      Runner Stealing Success - 65
                      Fielder Errors -25
                      Fielder Speed - 50
(again this default setting appears to reflect real life speeds of fielders)
Fielder Speed Burst Length - 30
Fielder Speed Burst Power - 25
(Legend settings, and I like it, I tend to disagree with those who think speed burst isn't realistic, you're simply simulating your fielder "getting on his horse" to try to hustle to make a play... and this setting seems fairly reasonable)
                      Pitching Variability - 100
                      Pitcher Fatigue - 50
(appears this is another "default" setting... starting pitchers start to get tired in the late 5th early 6th inning, but high stamina pitchers can squeak out an extra inning ot two)
                      Pitcher Interface Speed - 85
                      Injuries - 20
(still working with this one... 10 seems a little low, and I actually did get one injury set here, but I need to see how it impacts Season play first)
                      Pitch Speed - 75

                      CPU SLIDERS
                      AI Skill - 100
                      AI Contact - 65
                      AI Power - 54
                      AI Slamzone Probability - 0
                      AI Slamzone Power - 0
                      AI Fatigue - 50
(like the Human setting this appears to be a default fatigue setting)
AI Take Strike Overall - 60
AI Take Strike Ahead - 50
                      AI Take Strike Behind -70

                        HUMAN SETTINGS
                        Batter Contact - 60
                        Batter Power - 60
                        Batter Slamzone Power - 0
                        Batter Bunt Assistance - 100
                        Runner Baserunning Speed - 50
(changed this because it appears runner speeds reflect "real life" better, I get many more close plays at first with speedy runners)
                        Runner Stealing Success - 65
                        Fielder Errors -25
                        Fielder Speed - 50
(again this default setting appears to reflect real life speeds of fielders)
Fielder Speed Burst Length - 30
Fielder Speed Burst Power - 25
(Legend settings, and I like it, I tend to disagree with those who think speed burst isn't realistic, you're simply simulating your fielder "getting on his horse" to try to hustle to make a play... and this setting seems fairly reasonable)
                        Pitching Variability - 100
                        Pitcher Fatigue - 50
(appears this is another "default" setting... starting pitchers start to get tired in the late 5th early 6th inning, but high stamina pitchers can squeak out an extra inning ot two)
                        Pitcher Interface Speed - 85
                        Injuries - 20
(still working with this one... 10 seems a little low, and I actually did get one injury set here, but I need to see how it impacts Season play first)
                        Pitch Speed - 75

Well, I don't know how I did it, but somehow I managed to get all the custom sliders to 50. I think it had something to do with me changing the settings in season mode.....but who knows. The important thing is I saved those settings, and now have those throwing sliders all at 50. Prior to that, I played one more game last night (before gallandro put up these new settings). This one was fun:

                          Pirates 4 7 2
                          Mets 5 9 2

                          WP P. Martinez
                          LP Ol. Perez

                          Martinez 7.1 IP 3 H, 2 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
                          Perez 6.2 IP 8 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 0 BB, 4 K

Summary - Best game yet. With the score tied 1-1 in the bottom the 7th, Perez served up a 4-spot. But I came back for three in the next half inning with a HR off Braden Looper, who entered the game after Pedro departed. Then in the ninth, Jason Bay comes up with a 1 out double, and I pinch run Matt Lawton as the tying run. Benito Santiago grounded out, and then Ty Wigginton delivered a two out base hit to right. Lawton turns the corner and heads for home. Cameron comes up firing with a one hop strike to Piazza - and I'm cut down on a headfirst slide at home plate to end the game. It doesn't matter that I lost, when the game was as good as that. Obviously the errors were up, but given the two teams involved (and the low error counts of the last two games) I don't think it's a concern. There was also one passed ball - by Piazza. No problem or explanation needed there.

I'm still seeing a lot of CPU stolen base attempts, and an alarming number of successes. Cameron stole third safely twice on me. I do hold runners on and make pickoff attempts, but it doesn't seem to matter - they take off anyway, lead or no lead.

Re: BIGFNJOE & GALLANDRO'S MLB 2K5 Pure Realism Sliders

Well, I think I may have inadvertantly found another fix. As many of you know from my ongoing saga with this game I have been very frustrated with the CPU pitchers inability to retreiving slow rolling grounders... or balls which have completely stopped moving for that matter.

Well on joe's and my current slider setting AI Fielding Aggressiveness is set at 45... but I was still seeing this issue and I feared if I moved the slider up any higher this would suddenly be kung-fu baseball with CPU players routinely diving and jumping and leaping to make game saving plays.

Well on a lark I decided to bump the current slider settings to 50 just to see what happens... and I think I may have, yet again inadvertantly stumbled onto something.

Now mind you I've only played two games with this setting but:

                              1) I have yet to see a CPU pitcher unable to pick up a slow roller.

                              2) A lot of the leaping has actually stopped, I was hitting grounders in the infield gaps without the CPU diving for it, and the CPU actually seemed to jump when it looked as if a play could be made.

                              3) I saw the most amazing thing twice in two games... CPU outfielder actually pulling up on shallow flys into the outfield. At the 40-45 setting outfielders were pretty agressive and would usually jump to stop plays (sometimes resulting in errors). But the outfielders in general seemed to track balls better and actually played balls that would roll into the corner fence better as well.

So maybe this is another one of those settings that should be set at 50... I'll report when I have more info. If anyone else wants to test this and report their observations, feel free.
