Re: Owner Mode Tips
I started a fantasy draft owner mode, and my players salaries for the whole organization was about 35 million. I thought I was in good shape until I discovered that I had no TV contract! What is the ideal budget to have so that you can have an inexpensive team, but enough of a media contract to make a difference?Comment

Re: Owner Mode Tips
well, I've finally started making money thanks to the help in this thread. I was finally understanding how to make money, still way in the hole though. But I'm only in my second month of my first year. But anyway, my team is heading off on a 12 game road trip, so I guess I'm about to go in the hole some more. Is there anything I can do to combat this, or do I just have to realize that as long as I'm making money at home, I'll eventually end out ahead?

Re: Owner Mode Tips
i dont know if this has been brought up but i believe that the orverall loss for the year i.e. 2 months in with the twins i'm 4 million in the whole but my bank is only 2 million down with a 9 game homestand coming up. i think if yiu build your bank up to add seats and stuff to make more money then things turn positive. summation dont concentrate on the projections and worry about what your actual bank dollars are."You come at the King, you best not miss..."Comment

Re: Owner Mode Tips
For people looking for a starting point for ticket prices, I saw this in a thread at gamefaqs, (the thread, in case I'm supposed to link to it or whatever) and it worked pretty well for me. For games of 5 impact or less, charge 40 for lower deck, 20 for upper. For 6-8 impact, charge 50-25. 9,10, or playoffs, go 60-30. If you've got the level 1 expansion, I generally kept it somewhere around 10-15 less than the lower deck prices, though that's not an exact science or anything). It's probably not perfect, you'll have to tinker a bit from there, but it should be a good starting point. I simmed out a season using this, and finished with an income of just over 9 mil and that was without too much tinkering with ticket prices, and almost none with concession prices. Plus I didn't do any promotional days after the first month. (forgot to set the rest, then went into debt) Of course, that was a after a long playoff run. You've gotta make the playoffs. I was bringing in over a million a game on those, and again that was without much price adjusting.
Also, don't worry about being in debt at the start of the season. At one point in the first month or two, I got a notice saying my I was in bad shape. (bank was -5 million.) You start getting big impact (which means big money) games around August and through the rest of the season. I didn't finally come out of debt for good until mid september. (I had bank by then, but in that little "owners box" on the main screen, I was showing red up until that point) Again, as long as you're in the race and make the playoffs, you'll be fine.
Anyway, that's how things turned out for me. Hope someone finds it helpful.
(oh, get Brandon Webb!Dude put up a 2.14 era for an american league team. And at only $300k. And even after that, he only asked for 2.8 mil.)

Re: Owner Mode Tips
Excellent post Beez, that's most of the tips I would give.
I'd add:
1. If you have the patience & knowledge, draft all your teams. Get good young talent. You will make more money this way at throughout the year.
2. I would buy only these: soda, popcorn & peanuts (biggest sellers in a small stadum) & the T-Shirt/jacket store.
3. Adjust your ticket prices for each series (@ home of course..) according to game impact, just like beez suggests.
4. TV contracts are simply to help you balance out a high-payroll team. A low payroll team = no contract, which is ok since you make the money quicker.
5.Promotions are good in the beginning but actually become useless in the 2nd month & on if you're winning & set the prices right. The stadium (small one the 1st year) fills up on its own without promotions that end up costing you. Set the promotions at the beginning of the year when you have hte money & do so for the 1st month & 1/2. Then use the money left to pay some of your more demanding players slighltly better contracts
