No one likes a cheater. And people like cheaters who dont come "clean" even less.

What makes Bonds the biggest cheater of them all? The fact that he is eons better than anybody who we know cheated? I sure don't see him as more of a cheater than Gaylord Perry, who wrote a damn book about it, but of course, he's in the hall of fame, and no one would mention his name with disdain.

My point about attention is that Barry loves it. He'll say he's trying to avoid it and that he wants to dissappear, but I don't buy it. Aftearll, what has he accomplished by stating this? He accomplished getting attention. He was the same way back in Pittsburgh. If he wants to be left alone, why did he state what he stated yesterday about retirement? Why not just play out the year and retire at the end? That way he avoids this attention that he supposedly hates.

Regarding 'roids....even if he is off of whatever he was taking, it doesn't mean his body isn't still suffering from the side effects. He'll suffer from them the rest of his life. That's why I think he'll be hurting much of the year. If he was in the AL and DH'ing, I'd feel differently. However, it's going to be tough on his legs playing the field.

I'm not so certain that "the cream and clear" are the only things he's ever taken. I question how anyone's head can get as big as his has simply due to age. HGH would case this and as well all know, that's not tested by baseball (as well as many other things). With that said, that's just basic speculation on my part and Barry is harldy the only one I put in that category.

Well, if we're being honest, I heard on ESPN radio this morning driving to work that Bonds also said that he wants to keep playing baseball so he can break Ruth's record because he is "white".

If the 2003 "cream" and "clear" is true (and are the only two substances he used [knowingly or not]), then he's been off of it for quite some time now. I don't know how many people here believe that in his last 14 games this previous year he was using steroids. I have quite a hard time believing it... it's certainly not the risk for him.

Besides, I don't know if I should always reiterate this, but if people truly believe that steroids made Bonds what he is today, what happened to Jeremy Giambi along the way? What happened to (supposedly) Alex Sanchez? Is it because Bonds already had so much mass that extra mass made him a juggernaut? I don't know the answer, so I'm asking you.

Question for everyone: Would you mind if he was still in baseball as long as he doesn't break Aaron's record? It seems to me that most people here just don't want a "cheater to hold the record".

the fact that the man cheated is enough for me to want him out.

I don't like Bonds. He cheated and knows it. He blames the press for his own ignorance. He wants everyone to feel sorry for a 40+ year old man that has taken steroids to break a record. He says his children go through hell because of the media.

It may sound strange coming from me whenever I defend Bonds because you see the Giants logo in my avatar. Try your best to disregard the bias factor when reading my posts, because it doesn't have anything to do with Bonds being a Giant whatsoever. Maddux is my second favorite player, with Sheffield being my second favorite hitter. I would defend them like Bonds, and I absolutely despise Chicago and New York.

I wouldn't be surprised if Bonds has at least one trip to the 15-day DL this season. He isn't young anymore and from what he said about his knee being bone-to-bone, that will be really hard to play through in a 162 game season.

Now I'd still prefer him in lineup over a few players (i.e. Klesko, Dave Roberts). If he can still swing the bat with power, then he's still valuable.

So because you are a fan of Maddux and Sheffield, we're supposed to believe you're not biased about Bonds? Makes sense to me...

No no, what I'm saying is that when reading my posts, try and look passed the possible bias that you may think that I'm speaking of (and not about Bonds, about San Francisco). I'll be biased towards any player that I admire, and I will defend them... but that doesn't mean I won't defend players I don't like either. I don't believe Sosa was a steroid freak, I just believe he's a bad player.

What I'm trying to say is that just because I say something that's defending Bonds, don't use my avatar as an aid as to why you may think that I'm defending him. It blinds you from anything else.

Yes, god bless Barry the martyr.

As I said a couple pages back, when he starts getting threats on his and his family's life and has to endure the amount of anguish that Aaron had to endure playing in the South during the civil rights movement, then you can glorify all that he has gone through with the "white" community. If he can't handle pressure that for the most part he has brought on himself, I would love to see how he would take to an environment like Aaron had to live through. Perhaps Felipe and Dusty Baker should sit him down and let him know what it was like playing in Atlanta during the late sixties.
