    Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield

VIERA, Fla. (AP) - Alfonso Soriano refused to play the outfield for the Washington Nationals in what was supposed to be his spring training debut Monday night, and general manager Jim Bowden said his biggest offseason acquisition will go on the disqualified list if he doesn't agree to switch positions this week.

"The player refused to take the field, which we believe is a violation of his contract,'' Bowden said.

Soriano, an All-Star second baseman, was listed as batting leadoff and playing left field on a lineup sheet posted in the Nationals' clubhouse before Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

But when the Nationals took the field in the top of the first, Soriano wasn't there. Brandon Watson replaced him in the lineup, playing center field, and Ryan Church shifted from center to left.

    Seriously...what a little bitch.

Seriously...I used to like Soriano, but he's a POS.

And then again, the Nationals should have known what they were getting into, so I dont feel sorry for them either.

They should just put him on the reserved list... sit this jackass down indefinitely until he learns playing the MLB is a priviledge.

I just saw this on ESPN.com and I was like "your kidding right"? I can't believe he refused to play left field. He was acting like a little league kid telling his coach, "No, I'm not playing left field, you can't make me" What a baby, LOL.

Good for Bowden, take a stand against this immature prick.

I was talking to a Nationals fan and he told me Soriano has been this way since they got him. He came over from the trade and essentially said I'm playing 2B or not playing at all. This fan stated he and many others are already fed up with Soriano and they haven't played 1 game.

Ridiculous.... They're paying him millions so just play the position they want you to play. Especially when he's possibly better suited to play OF!!

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield

He should play Left Field. But Bowden is the biggest idiot in all of this for still dealing for the guy, when he had to of known that in the past he has refused to move to the outfield.

I like the fac that the Nats are taking a stand against Soriano's childish ways. It serves him right to be put on the disqualified list. I wonder if that listing works during the season as well?

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield

If they prove that they won't pay him if he doesn't listen to them, then he'll probably play LF. Money is number one in all these issues.

If Mr. Ed still doesn't play after having his money taken away from him, he's just an f'n ******.

"Hey, here's $10 MILLION dollars to go play left field in the Major Leagues."

"No! I'd rather lose $10 million than play a position I don't want to!"

See, this is a very unlikely resolution. I bet he'll play after his agent or someone in his family tells him he could be losing so much money this year.

A lot of people said that the last time this came up...but I disagree. They were hoping he'd be a team player. I guess he didn't hear the story enough times about Michael Young shifting from 2nd to short. Yes, 2nd to LF is a big jump...but be a team player and deal with it. I would have more respect for him if he just did but told them he doesn't want to do it permanently so he would like to be traded....it's pretty bad to just not go out to your position.

I really didn't like him when he was here and I'm glad we got rid of him. He's a team cancer and really doesn't do good for anyone. Yes, he hits homers....but he has a bad attitude, is lazy and it's all about him. He should go play in Boston with the other guy in baseball with the attitude like his.

Where do you get off making a blanket statement like that? Have you ever been in the Red Sox clubhouse? If you have, then I apologize, but I'm assuming you haven't when I say you shouldn't speak out of ignorance. If you want to single out one guy in Boston (Wells, I assume) then do so, but you're making it sound like Boston is where the bad attitudes and poor-sports convene.

What I got out of his statement was that he was simply talking about Manny, with his kind of attitude. He wasn't taking a shot at the whole Red Sox clubhouse.

Wow, did I just stand up for something about Boston.
