no. and those saying that the Nationals should have talked to Soriano about switching....the Rangers GM wouldn't allow them to talk to Soriano before the physicals were done and the deal was completed...after that...it was too late

i guess Showalter wanted him gone in a bad way.. then it just snowballed down from there.. i also heard a mention that they might actually shift him to SS to replace Guzman (heard that on ESPN radio yesterday), but who knows..

He was in the outfield? I thought he came up as a shortstop.

He did, although I think he may have played some outfield while he was in Japan for a couple of years.

Well, according to the Nats website, he's agreed to play LF now, after "cosultation with his wife and his agent."

Let's see how long this lasts.......

Soriano has scary talent but he's terribly unclutch, strikes out like it's his job and is a liability in the field.

Plus he's a baby.


As much as I despise A-Rod, I'm glad we don't have Soriano anymore.

any yankee or ex-yankee is a sticky situation. there is always drama with them. And as soriano as one of them, he should shut his mouth, whine on the DQ list in the clubhouse corner and think what hes done until he decides whats best for him

Kent - 56

...and he's worried leaving this position will hurt his value?

He's only concerned with his own big picture. Given his offensive prowess, as a 2B he is on his way to a HOF calibur career. Put him out in LF, and he's nothing more than your dime-a-dozen all-bat corner outfielder. He becomes just another player in a position loaded with cleanup hitters. If he keeps himself at second, he becomes a middle infielder with pop, something that still isn't easy to come across. Hit 400 homers as a 2B? You're headed to Cooperstown. Hit 400 as a LF? Well, things become a little more sticky. Not to mention it decreases his market value if he moves to left full-time. Outfielders who will hit 30 homers and drive in 100 runs a year aren't to terribly difficult to find, so you can afford to underpay someone and still get production. If you are a power hitter at a predominately non-power driven position like second, teams will gladly overpay to get that added stroke out of a position that normally doesn't produce it.

That's Soriano's logic I would assume, but word is that he may be able to get more money as an above average outfielder than as a defensive liability at second; even more so someone thinks he can play center. Of course it remains to be seen how he will fair in the outfield....

This is part of the reason I hated the trade so much: the Nats already have a second baseman and if you move Soriano to a corner outfield spot he goes from being the most offensivley productive player at his position to a solid one...which the Nationals already had in Wilkerson.

I wouldn't say that, guys like Nick Johnson and Mike Lowell have gone on to have nice careers without any drama.

I don't know if anyone else saw this, but they showed errors by 2nd baseman in the last 5 years, and guess who led the league? Soriano had 108 errors in that time, the next highest guy had 59!!!! Let me see, a gold glover like Vidro at second, or Soriano? Typical major league steroid pumped crybaby. Hey, numbers don't lie, this guy is a modern day Steve Sax at 2nd. This is exactly what is wrong with pro sports today.

He's just fine, He doesnt wanna play outfield and why would he? Looks like he's gonna give it a shot today and see how he does. He's a fine ball player and a lot of teams would love to have him.

I dont think many people would fault Soriano for having a preferance over what position he plays. But it wasnt just that he didnt want to play left - he refused to play it, even to the point of refusing to take the field when he was penciled in as the left fielder, going far beyond "complaining a lil bit". If it were that important to him, he should have it in his contract that he plays infield or doesnt play.
