I thought he was talking about Wells. I don't see how the comparison with Manny is fair. Yeah he asked to be traded during the off-season, but he's with the team now and he's never refused to take the field like Soriano has. He agreed to hit 4th last year when he wanted to hit 3rd in the order without making a fuss. Manny may be a lot of things, but I don't ever recall hearing anyone refer to him as a clubhouse cancer.

I thought jmw was talking about Wells as well with the recent news about him.
I'll take Soriano back for the Yanks. He was one of my favorite players and he has said he would play outfield for us.Yankees

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield
I can see where Soriano's coming from. I've played short on every team I played on and there were a couple times where I had to play outfield and was hesitant. I don't find it surprising or distracting for him to be doing this, because he has every right to do so, in my opinion.Comment

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield
I'm sick of reading people defending these primadonna athletes, first that jack@$$ in San Francisco and now Soriano. "They knew what they were getting" bullcrap. They acquired him, they're paying him-a lot of money, if they want him to Catch then he should put on the gear. It shouldn't matter whether or not he wants to switch, you do it because the TEAM asked you to, you do it because it's whats best for the TEAM. If he's so worried about how moving will effect his value next winter maybe he should think about how is unwillingness to help his TEAM is going to effect his value.
I applaud Jim Bowden and the Nationals for taking a stance and hope they do DQ him so he doesn't see a penny of the $10 million he is supposed to make. And i hope the next story we hear is about how Frank Robinson shoved a bat up his @$$ and used it to drag him out to LF.Comment

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield
While I dont agree with a player not taking the field, he is standing up for what he believes...and thats to play 2b. Their paying him big money for his bat so why not just let him play 2B? The Nationals are the real *******es in this case.Comment

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield
Like I said, playing in the MLB is a priviledge and people like this need to respect that. You can't just come in demanding this and that and if you don't like it you flake out on your team.Comment

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield
But in all seriousness, Soriano is in a no win situation. If I were in his position I would just play LF and raise T.O type hell throughout the season...Then get the **** outta there after the season. He'll get his money.Comment

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield
Soriano was my favorite player when he was with the Yankees. I can't believe he's still pulling this crap. He thinks he's to good to switch positions or something? Frank Robinson and Jim Bowden have already said they aren't gona put up with his crap. I don't understand why he wants to play 2b so bad, he's not even good at it. He should be open to switching positions, and trying to get better. If he's fighting for more money, or something like that, then it's just sad. A guy refusing to take the field because of his position? That's just pathetic. They should trade him for pitching.NBA: New York Knicks

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield
The sad thing is he doesn't realize that moving to LF would probably increase his value. Does he think teams would rather have a guy that plays 2B, LF and was willing to be flexible to help his team or a guy that only plays 2B and is just looking out for himself?Comment

Re: Soriano Refuses To Play Outfield
Soriano has scary talent but he's terribly unclutch, strikes out like it's his job and is a liability in the field.
Plus he's a baby.
