In a playoff/pennant situation it's ok to give up a little more then you'd like. It's similar to the way some of the "worst" trades mentioned in that thread were. Sometimes you have to give up youth in order to get to the Big Show.

Originally posted by atomicdookieHa, well if they took Sexson for him than I'd be all over it. I'm still not ready to give up on Beltre though...and there is no way in hell that I want them to trade one of the young arms, Lopez, or Ibanez.Comment

Originally posted by Pimping219Give them Reed and Meche for Soriano, they may want more for Soriano but lets be honest, Washington either takes what they can get or they get nothing when Soriano walks at the end of the year. As the deadline gets closer Washington will start to decrease some of their demands, not to mention Meche is a FA at the end of the year also and Im not sold on him anyways.
It's always possible that teams like the Yankees, Angels and Tigers may offer more for Soriano than Jeremy Reed and Gil Meche.Comment

Leyland on the Tigers acquiring Bobby Abreu:
Leyland said, barring something "freaky," a Tigers beat writer had a better chance of managing the team next week than Detroit had of acquiring Philadelphia OF Bobby Abreu.

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas
Call me crazy, but if the M's are already in absolute DIRE NEED of STARTING PITCHERS (just like the rest of the AL West), why would they give up any of their pitchers for a half-season deal w/ Soriano? Who would they replace them with? There ISN'T anyone to replace them with. I mean...everyone is acting like letting go of one of our crappy starters is going to be a good thing....you'd be right....if we were getting a starter in return that didn't suck...
point is....M's might be interested, but if they give up any of their starters...hell, if they give up any of their pitchers PERIOD, they will officially be INSANE for doing so.
I wouldn't mind letting go of Sexson or Beltre, but the kind of moves being discussed here are just....INCREDIBLY STUPID...Comment

Re: Official Trade Deadline Thread- Rumors, Transactions and Your Own Crazy Ideas
I prefer Soriano coming to the Tigers over Abreu. The only thing that worries me is the contract. I would be willing to give a little more and a better prospect if there was a way to get him to sign a multi-year deal.Comment

Originally posted by dieselboyAs long as the Mariners can sign Soriano to an extension, I'm all for a deal.
The latest speculation per Jayson Stark the other day was that it's just Bowden floating another team in the Angels division to get them to offer up a better deal. Plus, the Nats want a serious haul for Soriano, and I don't see the M's sending Rafael Soriano, plus Adam Jones AND another top prospect for a guy that is most likely a rent-a-player in Seattle!
They should DFA Everett before that option vests for '07, call up Snelling or even Choo again to rotate between LF and DH, and be done with it already! Everett has been dreadful, under .200 since early June, yet Grover just keeps rolling him out there.Comment

I hate to be the bearer of bad news to you Mariner fans, but Reed and Meche is not going to get you Soriano.
Heck that might not get you Christian Guzman."The academic support at Ohio State, there is no way you can fail. Even if you're giving minimal effort there is no way you can fail."

Originally posted by Sedihawk2K5We can probably put the Soriano to the M's to bed. For the reason you say, the biggest thing is I can't fathom that he'd agree to an extension here. Safeco is death to RH power hitters, outside of a fluke season like Boone had in 2001, and to look at the home/away splits of some of the M's RH hitters right now, it's amazing how bad they are at home vs. the road. I'm afraid Soriano would show up, take one look at that left-center gap and say "how long until I become a free agent??"

It just comes down to what the Nationals want, and if we can re-sign Soriano.Comment
